Victor K. I’ve seen many interviews with Chris Nolan, and it’s very rare to hear him swear. I know his brother swears more than him, but he doesn’t seem to swear a whole lot. At least not in interviews.
Excellent interview Cameron! I am so excited to attend a screening of DUNKIRK in OMNIMAX next week. We are so lucky for these exhibitions. Thank you so very very much, Christopher Nolan.
Christopher nolan is right about to shoot films on film and not digital. The picture quality is clear and sharp and your eyes feel not isolated what you wanna see. Because your eyes can look up and down or to right or left. Digital films have always black bars and it is very isolating for your eyes.
The black bars have nothing to do with "black bars". First they don't put black bars is just the the aspect ratio doesn't match the 16:9 ratio on TV. Instead it's a 2.35:1 ratio . Second, film has been using this aspect ratio sense the 50's. 70mm IMAX just has a different ratio (1.43:1) that expands it.
aspect ratio is not used right anymore, all recent movies use the famous aspect ratio 2.35:1, but you rarely see the good old aspect ratio 16:9, which brings me to the movie Joker, the reason that ratio (16:9) was used is to immerse us with Arthur Fleck's emotions, you see everything about his famous, its like you're there, as for 2.35:1, its mostly used for landscape, its not for immersion, but it allows you to see what's going on, it gives more space for details, so yeah 16:9 is for immersion and 2.35:1 is for details, Nolan uses that mix pretty well, except IMAX is a lot taller, but yeah you can see how much the immersion increases. btw if i'm wrong about something correct me, this is my thoughts about the use of aspect ratio, i'm no professional soo.
theres a smoother "degrade" between colors and tones, in digital cameras its perfectly numerical, and its limited well bellow what the human eye sees, digital though is getting close in Latitude
I'm pretty sure Chris has always been like this, it's only in this video that it shows for the first time I swear I've read somewhere that said while Chris was writing Memento at a "script writing round table" with his bro Jonah and some other friends, Chris was the one to drop the most F bombs. Wish I can find that interview/news/whatever it was.
"Well... it's like... fuck it."
- Christopher Nolan, 2017
Hearing Nolan swear is like hearing your grandma swear - it's weird and uncomfortable.
Dizzy Blu he is still holy
I nearly got a heartattack :)
15:09 "Well... it's like, fuck it." One of the rare times I've heard Nolan swear. It seems a little odd, but that was a great response.

Amid Septicforce what do you mean “digital films have always black bars?”
What format a film was shot on has nothing to do with the aspect ratio
The black bars have nothing to do with "black bars".

nolan also put black bars
Who saw A Soap Opera?
TaiPaulo TheMasterFilmmaker no one
Mohit Subedi
Oh dam
absolutely no one
i would think books are time-based mediums
I can't believe this - imax cameras are noisy? what's wrong with this technology?
I'm not sure why people are happy because Nolan cursed!?
Because he almost never curses. Makes him seem more human somehow
@Persepione not cursing doesn’t make him less human either. It’s just funnier coming from him. Odd thing to say
I don't know, fuck it
Fuck it -15:00
@12:05 lol Nolan can’t even answer the compound question about time in chronological order!

'There's no numerical greyscale to it'. What? Everything has a greyscale.
Not sure what he is talking about, he seems to compare it with bit depth.

wtf is up bro?
dear Chris, i'm gonna miss who you were. farewell.
what does that mean?
That the early films from him..Following and Memento are a thing of the past. Maybe thats what tru4t meant, maybe.
Machette08 or maybe tru4t was referring to Nolan becoming less classy with his new use of bad language
it makes him a more compelling "character", seems more human, i still think he's super classy
