  • Just felt the urge to upload a video and thought examples of the Fantom's RPS feature might be useful or interesting to someone.
This video isn't a tutorial, more examples of how the feature can be used. If anyone wants more info on RPS let me know and I can make a tutorial vid about it.
    Cheers for watching.

@BrendanGreaves111 Hi, I assume the pattern you've recorded and used pitch bend on is on the same midi channel as the active channel you're trying to perform with. If you have them on seperate channels it should solve the problem.

@GREGCAST70 Well ya see, I just come up with the best ideas ;) haha. On a serious note, one of the best uses for the d-beam and probably the only non gimmicky use...
Let me know if ya want any vid topics covered,

Hi. Thanks for the video. Hope to see more tutorials soon on this monster of a machine. I have a question.
I've repeated what you have done and recorded a phrase.
But I uses the pitch bend on my phrase.
I saves it to drum pad 1. When I play my keyboard part and then press drum pad one the phrase sounds but the notes on the keyboard are affected by the pitch bend of the phrase I saved.
I can turn off the receive message in partview/midi to stop this happening. But I wanted to use it still.

@BrendanGreaves111 Not quite sure what you mean here. If you press the layer/split button to edit layers and splits you should only have channels you want to play ticked. So if you have an RPS pattern on ch16 and you are only using a piano and upright bass on ch1 and ch2 then only ch1 and ch2 need to have the box ticked on that screen. Hope that helps.

So following on. The phrase I recorded is in the top octaves of the keyboard. Is there a way to set keyboard key ranges for each part of the performance or do I have to have it off on all instruments that I don't want affecting by the phrase.
    Many thanks. Bren

@TheAfrochef19 I assume you're refering to the pattern mode within the sequencer (the F2 button)?
This is where your RPS patterns are found. I can do a more indepth tutorial on RPS for you and show how to set up the patterns and assign them to pads and keys.
Let me know if that's what you're looking for.

The Fantom X has a good array of drum sounds, from natural kits to trance & hiphop so I'd say, sonically, its definitely up to the task.
However, it lacks a good quantity of preprogrammed drum loops, most of them I find unuseable.
The M3 on the other hand has fewer drum patches but far more preprogrammed loops of much higher complexity, even some using 7/8 time sigs.
Both the Fantom X & M3 are available as sound modules, so it depends which is more suited to your needs.

What about using the Fantom X for a drum machine? Will it do the job nicely?
