Nice one John, I downloaded a f stop table which gives you the time in seconds and the corresponding 1/4, and 1/2 stop + and - in seconds which I use in the darkroom.
I’ve seen well known printers do test strips at 5 10 15 20 25 seconds etc... seems to get less useful the further you go. I like 3 4 5.5 8 11 16 and 22 seconds for a first test strip. Similar idea and very efficient to quickly dial exposure in.
I'm far from a good printer (I barely started printing months ago) but if you're stuck with an old school mechanical cheap timer, using longer timings helps alleviate the error of the timer. Mine for example is very bad at short times like 1 and 2 sec. So I'm doing 5s increments.
Great video, I see you are using a Paterson timer that has 1 second increment over 10 seconds, which is your routine for tenths of a second over 10 seconds? Do you split the first exposure to 10 seconds and the rest with the remaining time? Thanks
Hi Tommaso! You shouldn't need tenths of a second over 10 seconds. If you think you do your possibly being a little intense. Close down the lens a stop and get your exposures around 15 to 20 seconds. That's a sweet spot.
i can't handle the MATHS for that method ! I could pass Chemistry, Zoology and Botany at 'A'' level but NOT Maths at 'O' level even ! I go by my Old Chemistry Master at East Ham Grammar School Photo -Soc all those years ago and count ' One-a-Second, Two-a Second, Three-a Second etc in 2 or 3 second strips --- I don't have a posh electronic Timer !
Please, keep on posting new videos. I love your work, it helps a lot ! See you soon.

Oh my, this is the best way to explain f-Stop printing for test strips! Made my day
Cheers Jae!
John, you are great presenter, thank you for introducing a new approach.
Thanks John, for your company here on the channel and your comment.
Another excellent tutorial - well explained, simple to follow.
Glad you liked it Bluz!
Thanks John for another brilliant tutorial! This is the best explanation of f-stop printing I have ever seen og read :-) Best Jakob
Wow, I'm very happy about that. Much appreciated Jakob!
Ha, yes, and then he invented his f-stop timer. Nocom's Device :) Thanks, that was a blast from the past.
This is extremely cool.
Thanks, Dale.
oh wow thank you. Never heard of this idea. i'll defintely try this out!
Great!

You have the Rolls Royce solution Andrew. I have the same ;-)
Great one, I'm going to try it as soon as possible, thanks ^^
Have fun!

Peter, you're making me look hip. I'm going to get rid of the timer and do it like you sir ;-)
