I used to dance competitively. I immediately recognized the sleep animation as a very common stretch for warming up. A neat detail, honestly. It also feels pretty good because its not very intense, and just generally loosens things up.
It reminded me of the pose that a Mestre-sala (I guess it could be translated as "hall master") will do whenever the Porta-bandeira ("flag-bearer") starts spinning her long round dress during a samba school parade in Rio. They're a male and female duo that are always together in parades. Considering the final evolution, it could be that as well.
This! I’m so excited that the dancer Pokémon was given as much detail as it has. I love how true the stances, movements are, and the fact that the dude basically dances samba as he fights haha.
I love how all of the evolutions grow into festival themes. I'm actually impressed at Meowscarada's design after the thief look in the second stage. It's like a masquerading cat's paw
@@sedarue123 Just like a real cat in actuality lol. Try and tell it what to do, or sit still enough for a photo is near impossible lol. I know this cause I had to make BOTH my cats try and just SIT. On the couch for a christmas card photo. I got it, and they look super cute but god I just was exhausted after lol
Meowscarada is my choice still despite the bad match-ups with types. I really do love the design as it reminds me of a mix between a cat, Dark Magician, and Tuxedo Mask.
Definitely going with Sprigatito. I’d say that Meowscarada is very much still a thief though, as it’s name seems to be a play on the word Masquerade and it’s mask is similar to a masquerade mask. I can’t quite to recall the name of this type of thief but the Phantom Thieves from Persona 5 do come to mind. Totally naming mine Morgana.
I love everything about Skeledirge. Dirge is "a lament of the dead" and comes from Spanish/Latin _Dirige, Domine, Deus meus, in conspectu tuo viam meam._ That makes sense given its signature move "Torch Song". To further explain, this is more based in Christianity/Catholicism than anything else. Which fits again with the region being based in Spain, which had the....ya know. Spanish Inquisition, which was from 1478-1834. The goal was to spread and maintain Christian/Catholic ideology to regions under Spanish rule. The skull is obviously dia de los muertos themed. The flames are not flames at all but marigolds, and the fire bird is based on Egyptian Plovers which have a symbiotic relationship with Nile Crocodiles. I love it.
@@donnylurch4207 yeah for sure. I added some more clarification, since it's not really SPANISH, but more LATIN BASED, and comes from a more somber tone than the festive tones of Day of the Dead, but again, it's Spain, And Spain was very religious, and had the uh not so nice Spanish Inquisition thing going on. So while it's not really SPANISH based in naming, skele being of course skeleton for day of the dead skulls, and dirge being a lament of the dead, the name is still very much Spanish BASED even if in symbolic meaning not direct translation.
I feel like Fuecocco will be excellent for a trick room team in competitive play. I think it’ll just be a juggernaut with an assault vest equipped. I’m so excited to use it
@@pokezod7832 it depends if you are playing singles or doubles, because yeah in singles maybe it is too fast for trick room, but in doubles it can work.
With that speed and movepool, Meowscarada is gonna be a crit machine, if you want to set it up that way. It also getting Play Rough by level up is insane and will give it a good way to check it’s Fighting weakness. I can’t wait to use this thing tomorrow.
If you know how to build a team, Meowscarada can be really good. Also with that speed stat you’re pretty much out speeding anything. It also gets U-turn and knock off, which is fantastic.
@@haezeushawkins436 Do you know what’s worst about the starter evolutions is that Sprigatto stands on two legs when it evolves into it’s middle and final stage what a disappointment looks like I hate Sprigatto now.
I checked the leaked elite 4 out and it looks like Quaquaval will be the best starter for them, given that it’s typing can take out at least 3 of them.
Ngl, Quaquaval with it’s signature move plus moxie as hidden ability. That just sounds BROKEN. Additionally it doesn’t have dreadful defences so it can live a move or two to build up its speed. Damn, it’s giving intimidate Incineroar
Going with Meowscarada. I personally think the designs “ok-ish” but I’m mainly getting it because it balances out my Pokémon team I have set and it has a pretty good ability that turns it into the typing of the move(s) that it uses. Edit: Ability is called Protean but it has been nerfed to one use only unless you switch it out or use a move like U-Turn and is only available post game. Thank you Matt, Layla Alder, and Siddharth Asoka for the information.
@@Destin879 Not gonna lie, I have no knowledge on ability locking as this is the first I’m hearing of it. I hope it isn’t restricted as why would they tease the Pokémon having this ability if it wasn’t going to be available to players anyway?
I've been in love with all of their first evo designs since the first announcement, but at first was torn about their final stages. With time, I learned to like Quaquaval and Meowscarada a lot, and this video finally made me appreciate Skeledirge quite a lot too for his inspirations. This gen is shaping to be very heavy inpired in Spanish culture and folklore which just makes it amazing. I've been waiting for a new dex that shakes me just like Gen 6 Pokémon did, I'm so hyped.
@@DayzAhat you can tie anything together but that doesnt make it regional, its ok because all pokemon games are barely tied to the region they are supposed to come from but wouldnt call this game "heavily inspired on spanish culture" when not even the starters are from spain
Floragato reminds me of Puss in Boots, a really strong design, a little sad to see its not fully carried over into the third stage. I really appreciate this video and all your helpful stat tips and tricks! My personal theory for starter Pokémon being more humanoid is because then they are more classified as "friends" or "partners" instead of pets like how a luxray or arcanine remain on all fours, even though I like those type of designs better.
I love the Fuecoco line. Crocalor having a egg hat makes sense given Skeledirg's pokedex entry: the fire bird is what hatches from that egg once it gains a soul upon Crocalor evolving. Skeledirge having a symbiotic relationship with fire bird on his snout is the same as real life crocodiles who have a relationship with birds. I love that.
It's nice to see a bulky Fire type starter for once that ain't just Incineroar. We've seen tons of offensive Fire types and while I do love them, it's nice to see some variety too and it'll most definitely do good with the defenses if given a chance, especially with Slack Off. Edit: Wording made clearer.
@@ItJustWorksPodcast Exactly. And if one is interested in making it into a bulky sweeper, it's absolutely possible. Just give it an Assault Vest and go to town! It's definitely UU, no contest. I absolutely love this guy so much!
Meowscrada is based off of Masquerade balls, where people ware intricate masks to hide their face. As you might assume, it becomes fairly easy for a person wearing a mask to do nefarious things without being caught... like a dark type. In a side note: if the widely released hidden ability becomes available anytime in the next few months, most of Mewscrada's issues with their defenses should be mitigated. (ps: Also, thanks for explaining that quaqaval was based on Carnaval dancers, rather then my mistaken impression of flamenco dancers. Makes more sense.)
EXCELLENT format for an overview of the starters! Handled spoilers perfectly and gave valuable insight to help choose, especially the late game / end game viability versus early stat advantages.
I love the sprigatito final design a little less than the second, but they're still by far my favourite... Especially after theif signature essentially being a grass frost breath :)
Yeah, I agree about the second form looking a bit cooler, which is a rarity. But that being said, I still really like Meowscarada's design. It kinda makes me think of Joker from Persona 5, but with a bit more flamboyance and flair.
Meowscarada is more of a phantom thief than a court jester, following the thief look and with their signature move. I love their look already and can't wait to have them on my team!
I was kinda hoping for Sprigatito to go down the Zorro/Puss-in-Boots kinda route, especially seeing how Floragato had a thief aesthetic. But Meowscarada has grown on me, and the jester/assassin aesthetic is pretty cool
I feel like the first forms were better on most of them, but I definitely wouldn't say any of the final forms look ugly by a long shot. Quaquaval is probably my least favorite shape-wise, but all their color pallets still look really good, and the concepts work decently well. Still sad we didn't get a Puss-in-boots inspired Sprigatito evolution, though.
Other than Fuecoco, I don't really like the new starters at all. Sprigatitto has the best looking final form but I dont really like any of the new pokemon I've seen.
I am shocked. Quaquaval turned out to be my favourite of the three. 😂 I’ve always loved the carnival aesthetic and I’m pleased with how they translated it in the starter.
As soon as I saw it, I thought, 'This is my starter'. It wasn't a six-armed duck like I'd hoped. But this might be even better. This is a Pokemon I could see Sylvando from Dragon Quest XI using (as many people know, he's my favorite character from that game).
I've been ride or die Fuecocco day one, and I am not dissapointed. Must say Quaxlys final form looks awesome too, I really like it. I do kinda wish that Sprigattito stayed as a 4 legged creature tho, but I like the jester inspiration.
Fairly confident that Skeledirge may be based on alebrijes, which are essentially animal spirit guides. Absolutely love the design and obviously made a good choice off the bat.
I thought Koraidon was more alebrije based than Skeledirge, but now that you mention it I can definitely see it .I hope Ash gets one in the next gen anime lol
Meowscarada is definitely the pick I’m going for. A guaranteed crit move that never misses is a huge deal I can just restart the game to get it with a nature that gives it better speed Edit: also it has great defense coverage. Weak against ice, fire, flying and bug types but it can learn Power Gem which can counter those problems
So the egg on Fuecoco's evolutions references to the fact that in Africa, Egyptian plovers have a relationship with Nile crocodiles where they fly into the crocodiles' mouths to feed on decaying meat lodged between the croc's teeth. So in other words, the plovers are the croc version of dental floss! And no, the crocs don't eat them! My favorite part was when Sprigatito did their own cover of Despacito, "Spriga, tito! Spriga-spriga-spriga-spriga-sprigatito!"...so beautiful and inspiring
I really liked Quaxly at first, it was my favorite starter, but now that I've seen it's final form I can say that I'm not a big fan of it even though it looks stunning and elegant. I'm personally more a fan of Sprigatito's final form and I think it will be my starter when I get my hand on the game. Fuecoco is my least favorite, but it still looks cool. Now I wanna see their shiny form !
Funnily enough I like Meowscarad's design the most, but I also just mainly choose grass starters anyway. The Fuecoco's final evolution also looks pretty cool. I want ceruledge so I probably won't be using Fuecoco
Same, I don’t understand the hate behind bipedal starters, they’re supposed to reflect their human trainers one way or another, whether that be through personality, build, or something else like profession. The theme behind the starters this gen being visual performers is really cool and solidifies that human connection.
I love Mewoscarada's look soooo much. It goes from being an assassin that hides in the shadows to one that hides in plain sight. Gives me heavy assassin creed brother hood and revelations vibes. Name is too long tho
I’d honestly have to say that in terms of design relating to the region it’s amazing. Honestly no Pokémon starters have really done this where they have the final evolution heavily relate to the culture the region was based off (Spain) and I can really appreciate the uniqueness of it. It makes me wonder how new gens will base there starters off whatever region it may be.
The last gen kind of had a theme relating to the location, it was uk based iirc and there was a footballer, a spy (James bond esque) and a drummer which are all big things there
@@1Lukas sure the fire alligator looks alright but I’m just the biggest fan of it’s design. Also first fire starter on all fours. (Which is kinda cool). The grass cat Pokemon again another humanoid cat the last one still worked but this time idk I much rather had a cool dark grass cat Pokemon on all fours instead I feel gamefreak could kept the magician design with the cat being on all fours. Finally the duck idk they could went from duck to Blue flamingo instead I’m pretty sure flamingo is a Spanish bird? Also a bird Pokemon we haven’t had yet. All in all I wish they looked more like animals instead of being human animal fusion again like it works sometimes but I personally am getting tired of it. One last I’m choosing the cat but not going to evolve it I guess to make it more challenging for myself
@@chaosthemultiversesamurai4544 yea that’s a fair analysis, I agree with you on the bipedal cat, they should’ve stuck to all fours but the design I like. I gotta say that the duck turning into a more peacock esque was good only because it really matches the design they intended, a flamingo would’ve been really interesting but I can’t really picture a final stage evolution where a flamingo could stand out.
Grass type all the way , love the design all throughout and the move pool is INSANE , gonna reset for either adamant to guarantee oko or jolly to capitalize even more on speed
As someone comes from a culture with those same types of super over the top street festivals/parades I can’t help but love the water starter. And it’s such a fun idea to combine that with a peacock. I’ve wanted a peacock Pokémon for a long time now. It’s perfect
The supposedly bad typings aren't an issue at all for me. I always find ways to get around the weaknesses. It's a tossup between the cat and the duck, but that depends on what another family member is picking.
exactly, i find it doesn’t usually matter match. worst case, you have the rest of your team to make up for it when i was a kid playing the 3ds games i wasn’t paying attention to typing at alllll, you still find ways to win
Lol typings arent a big deal at all unless your playing a nuzlocke or competitive other than that the game should be easy enough to finish with whatever pokemon you like having on your team
The starters are really solid all in all this gen. And their hidden abilities are also good. But I think Meowscarada is going to dominate when it gets it's hidden ability since it basically turns it into a physical Greninja.
Been Team Quaxly since day one, and I am stoked with how the line finishes out. I never used my starter in late game SwSh so not a deal breaker for me not having much use in raid dens. I love Quaquaval's look and vibe, and I'm so excited for tomorrow!
I like that all the starters aren't too humanoid. He had me scared at first with the final evolution for quaxly, but it looks good. Its tail looks like peacock tails.
Quaxly's final form honestly looks great! It embodies the theme perfectly and I really like the stance it takes when standing. Overall, I like these 3 starters.
Is that a reference to the leak that came out saying it was supposed to be related to being a magician? personally, speaking as a magician, I don't really see it myself.
Been waiting for this video for ages! And btw, I really appreciate the sensitivity you are putting into the videos regarding how you reveal info. It’s so useful for those that want some secrets. Much appreciated!
Yeah I was leaning towards Fuecoco the whole time but after seeing the final forms Meowscarada is great and Skeledirge is just okay. Sprigatito it is then
At first I was going to choose the water starter because I liked the whole little sailor thing it had going but seeing what it eventually evolves into it’s just not for me, I’m definitely going with the grass starter now I actually really like it’s final evolution and grass/dark is a cool type in my opinion. Thank you for your wonderful videos Austin!
I absolutely love the stats and move pool of its Evo. But it's repulsive. I hated inteleon because of the weird bedroom eyes and pose it had. This thing is just way too much it makes me want to rip it's feathers out. Like every one of its movements is flamboyant. Honestly I wouldn't mind it design at all if it wasn't shaking it booty around and skipping every where like a school girl. Why! And I have a feeling competitively it's going to be the best. Everyone already hates my favorite meowskarada it's going to a repeat of Everyone loving the starter I hate and hating the starter I love all over again. What's so great about being unhygienic using a tongue as a scarf is disgusting.
I had the opposite reaction lol. Quaxly's hat hair didn't appeal to me at all, but I love his sassy dancer final form so much that I'm considering choosing him over Sprigatito. 😅
Strangely enough it's the complete opposite for me, I never really cared for Quaxly I was going Fuecoco or Sprigatito but based off the final evos I'm going Quaxly, he looks cool and while I do like Sprigatitos I'm not picking it first because it's bipedal and Fuecoco is just ruined imo
I knew I was gonna choose fuecoco from the start, I always choose the reptile starter when possible, I’m really happy how it turned out! The long snout reminds me of a gharial, and the fire/ghost typing is perfect!
Oddly…if you could get all 3 on one team, they’d be great at covering for each other. Two type core trios in one, and you already found the fantastic combo Skeledirge and Quakeval have with their signature moves.
I was going with Quaxly when the first trailer came out...my son immediately gravitated toward Sprigatito and my daughter toward Fuecoco. Knowing the final typings/movesets, still going with Quaxly...looks be damned! Also that Meowscarada mask looks very similar to a masquerade mask I wore a few years ago...definitely get that vibe rather than court jester looking at it. (and the leaf "cape" just ties that in IMO)
Same here, but I think a hate the design more than I like the type, so I am team green cat now xD. Not fire crock because I want to have a ceruledge and it has the same type.
Austin John has the shirt that I remember giving a friend of mine growing up who is obsessed with Nintendo. He would wear it whenever we played anything Nintendo. I want to get one myself at this point, too.
Meowscarada is my favourite design. I think I’ll use that one, but keep it with U turn. It’s hidden ability would make it better, if I’m right. But I don’t know if there’s a way to get an ability patch or something before the post game.
I absolutely love meowscarada it's definitely a magician he actually reminds me of arcana from Yu-Gi-Oh lmao. I'm used to grass type starters kinda being the "hard mode" of the games. I absolutely love that skeledirge has a random fire bird on it's nose lmao
I'm not a fan of the angular parts of Skeledirge's design but I'll still go with Fuecoco I think. I just like the first form the most. I actually think Quaquaval has the best most cohesive design apart from the weird feet, even though it's not really to my taste. Has a lot of personality too.
I am not a fan of any of the designs, period, but it speaks to a larger issue I have with the series as a whole. In my opinion, we're being tossed design breadcrumbs and being thankful for having anything, versus being given the cream from the chaff. I don't think barely ANY of the monsters from the new dex have 'personality' with the fire Warrior brothers being a major exception.
I already decided I was going with Fuecoco-after seeing all the final evolutions-I'm even more stoked I chose Fuecoco! Love that Spanish-based design of Skeledirge! I just love sugar skulls, and just love everything about the look! Can't wait! Getting Violet!
It is very rare but I actually like all the starter final evolutions! They all stand out in different ways that I really enjoy! Sadly, that makes picking more difficult but I will go with Sprigatito as I was most excited for the little kitty~
I personally have loved Fuecoco the most out of the three before I knew anything about them, and Skeledirge just solidifies my view of him. Definitely going with the little ghost pepper
I was hoping for a Puss-in-boots themed design. I still somewhat got that with Floragato, but meowscarada isn't my least favorite. I love Quaquaval's color pallet and theme, but the execution kina fell flat for me. Glad that people are still happy with their starter picks overall, though!
I like the water type the most based on this video. It just seems like it'll be more fun to have on the team. I'd like to have the water starter and a houndour
The way I see it: Sprigatito will benefit most from an Adamant nature since it already has a very high speed. Fuecoco could benefit from a nature that raised special defense, but I think a Timid nature would be best for it And finally Quaxly could either go with a Jolly nature to help out with it’s speed, or it can go for a Naive/Rash nature so it can be a mixed attacker. As for hidden abilities, I think I remember hearing the Sprigatito had the best one. But I hope all 3 of them have good HA’s.
@@xAdrianHGx UNAWARE for Skeledirge holy SHT that thing is gonna be a COMPETITIVE BEAST in trick rooms. I've never played a trick room team, I've found the rule complicated to remember, but this gen I really wanna try new things. If you play Skeledirge against those who might want to go for a boost of any kind to do damage, it negates it. If you want a defensive boost, TOO BAD. Oh this is gonna be fun.
Skelredirge also has a good HA (unaware), he is decent bulky fire type.. Fire type doesn't really have decent bulky pokemon so a bulky starter is a great addition.. Skeledirge is also a proper quadraped fire starter, so another thing making it unique.
I personally have stayed away from leaks this whole time, and only got spoiled on one thing once (being Fuecoco's evolution line). At first I didn't know how to feel about Fuecoco's final evolution since the photo really didnt give it justice, but now to see it alive and moving and letting its personality shine I really love it. I knew I wanted Fuecoco in the beginning and I am relieved that in game it looks not as weird as the photo. Can't wait for tomorrow!
I usually pick pokemon based on looks more than stats, but i couldn't even focus on stats bc the pokemon were constantly doing something and felt so much more alive and had more personality in their animations! that said, I love quaxly's line so much and I'm so glad I'm sticking with it
imma be real, all the final forms are awesome; i especially love Quax and Sprig's. also, Meowscarada is likely a masquerade partygoer, not a jester lol. Masquerades are known for being mysterious, as you never know who you're dancing with under the mask.
Genuinely like all three starters. The looks, the stats, and the movepool. Can't wait to have all three, but I get the feeling I'm going with feuccoco mostly because of my team composition
Quaquaval...all day, it's extra even when it walks, I LOVE IT! I think we all need a pokémon that's ready for battle at 1pm but also for carnival at 2pm.
It just dawned on me yesterday that the overall theme for the final forms is "entertainer"! Meowscarada is a stage magician (at least that's my interpretation, I can see where Austin is getting court jester, though), Skeledirge is an opera singer, and Quaquaval is a carnivál dancer (hope I got that accent right)! That's so cool!
I'm taking meowscarada as a play on masquerade...since he's definitely wearing a mask. I was not super hype when I first got him but he grew on me. Friends to the end
A new generation, a brand new start. Can’t wait to have those games in my hands tomorrow and watch your tutorial videos as I play along. Let’s have some fun in Paldea, Austin!
I like the fuecoco design theme of starting a nest with a couple twigs, to laying the egg and finally having the baby bird hatch. Definitely choosing him when I get the game
I was briefly leaning toward Fuecoco and Skeledirge for a bit, but out of the trio Sprigatito/Meowscarada remains my favorite in terms of design, stats, and style of play. I liked Sprigatito from the start so I undoubtedly will choose it when I get the game, but Fuecoco is a close second for me.
Protean only works the first time the Pokémon is sent out. So for example, you sent it first turn and make it use Night Slash, you turn into a Dark type but afterwards when using Flower Trick, you won't turn into a Grass type. Thankfully it's not that big a deal. Just switch out and you can switch types again.
Fuecoco was my favorite choice from minute one, and i am so happy he is the best looking final form of them all for me. Sprigattito looks good in its final form, but Catwoman? seriously? And Quaxly becoming a Carneval/Flamenco Dancer is fitting for a water Bird Flamingo esque thing.
In their base forms, quaxly is by far my favourite but in their fully evolved forms it’s definitely skeledirge. I was so set on picking quaxly but now that I’ve seen the evolutions, I’m so undecided 😫😂
Quaquaval turning into a stereotypically gay, male, carneval dancer ain't it for me. I love Skeledirge so much I'm literally making my team comp worse just to use it, as I'm also gonna use Ceruledge which is the exact same typing
I picked fuecoco in the end, I had the WORST luck soft-resetting for a modest one, it took me around 4 hours but I finally got it 😫😂 I got the dual pack of Scarlet & Violet (playing Scarlet first) and I’m thinking I’ll pick quaxly for my Violet play-through. I’m honestly tempted to keep quaxly unevolved because I love him that much1 😂🐥
I think in the last generations, Pokemon designers are letting us down with the final evolution of the starters. They start so promising with the 1st stage and they end up way below the expectations. Sprigattito, fuecoco and quaxly are sooo good looking that honestly i didnt know which one to choose, with quaxly maybe slightly ahead. However, looking at the final evos i dont know what to say, i am just thinking to put the starter on the PC. I am really disappointed with the designs, all three for me are looking bad with Meowscarada maybe a bit less messy, which i will end up choosing eventually. Once again, the water type is so bad in terms of design, like it happened with sobble which i looooved the 1st stage as soon as i saw it, but when i saw Inteleon i got disappointed as ever. I just hope this will be the last time we have so bad starter designs (final evos)
Crocalor's hat also strongly resembles the marigolds people wear and set shrines up with during the day of the dead, with the fire egg in the middle that looks a bit like a candle. Definitely fits with the skull/ghost motif included in the line's design.
Definitely going Sprigatito for my first play through of Pokemon Scarlet, but I'm still deciding between Fuecoco and Quaxly for my Violet play through. I really like the final evolutions compared to last gen, even though they have grown on me, I really like what they are doing this generation.
I initially picked Quaxly. Halfway into the leak cycle I heard Sprigatito was gonna be like a magic-user, and I'm obsessed with wizards and and stuff. After seeing the final forms and seeing it's more...thief? Jester based? I'm definitely going to Mr. Carnival 💖 that design is so precious! I love the attention to detail and the ornate design using water. Big fan of Carnival themed designs too so that worked out However, you were tight, Austin. Fuecoco's evolution does look the coolest
I’m glad my friends were so adamant on their starters cause I definitely got the coolest one as leftovers 😂 I love how Skeledirge’s cry reverberates it gives off a menacing aura worthy of my team’s head. I’m not a competitive battler but I’ll defo look into upping its speed 🙏🏾
I kinda like how they balance the starters and make them average unlike the older games which we can just steamroll with the starters. Gives us more reason to use other random mons for a full team
I love how Skeledirge and Meowscarada are chill and Quaquaval is running around frantically, that duck has so much personality, I love it
I swear they had Revali in mind when Quaquaval's design
I used to dance competitively. I immediately recognized the sleep animation as a very common stretch for warming up. A neat detail, honestly. It also feels pretty good because its not very intense, and just generally loosens things up.
When you turn you hip that little bit outwards when you do that stretch, best feeling in the world
It reminded me of the pose that a Mestre-sala (I guess it could be translated as "hall master") will do whenever the Porta-bandeira ("flag-bearer") starts spinning her long round dress during a samba school parade in Rio. They're a male and female duo that are always together in parades. Considering the final evolution, it could be that as well.
This! I’m so excited that the dancer Pokémon was given as much detail as it has. I love how true the stances, movements are, and the fact that the dude basically dances samba as he fights haha.
fuecoco can learn slack off as an egg move, it’ll be great for stalling turns
For all of 8 turns but it's better than nothing. Especially for a Pokémon with Unaware.

@@thewatcher6969 Yeah, but that doesn't make a lot of sense as Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican thing and Paldea is based on Spain.

The skull is obviously dia de los muertos themed. The flames are not flames at all but marigolds, and the fire bird is based on Egyptian Plovers which have a symbiotic relationship with Nile Crocodiles. I love it.
I never knew dirge was a Spanish word. At first I thought "Well they kind of abandoned the naming convention." Thanks for the tip!
Was really interesting and cool to read thanks ☺️
I feel like Fuecocco will be excellent for a trick room team in competitive play. I think it’ll just be a juggernaut with an assault vest equipped. I’m so excited to use it
I just like the fact we have another Gator/Dile pokemon, the modern dinosaur prevails all!

With that speed and movepool, Meowscarada is gonna be a crit machine, if you want to set it up that way. It also getting Play Rough by level up is insane and will give it a good way to check it’s Fighting weakness. I can’t wait to use this thing tomorrow.

Aren't the starters ability locked or did they finally change it?
Protean is it’s hidden ability
ability patch you can just buy somewhere i guess
same, but im picking it because it reminds me of an old digimon design lmaoo
@@Destin879
Not gonna lie, I have no knowledge on ability locking as this is the first I’m hearing of it.
Tbf it confuses spain with south america way too much, there must be just 3 or 4 actual spanish pokemons from what ive seen
@@caquita402 well spain and south america have a lot of historical ties
Same here. I like Floragato the best for looks.
I forgot the name. But the bird in question, isn't that the one we may find cleaning the teeth of a crocodile?
I also love it but I’m picking quaxly anyway. Definitely my favourite of the 3 fully evolved starters but quaxly’s is alright too.
Plover Birds is what that little bird is based off
Wait really? It would've been nice if that fire bird is a separate pokemon though like Cramorant and Arrokuda
@@nintendoheartless7293 a quick Google search, the specific breed is the Egyptian Plover.
It's nice to see a bulky Fire type starter for once that ain't just Incineroar. We've seen tons of offensive Fire types and while I do love them, it's nice to see some variety too and it'll most definitely do good with the defenses if given a chance, especially with Slack Off.

I was going to post about mascaradas but you already did a great job on explaining. I am going for a Sprigatito for sure.

It looks like a human

EXCELLENT format for an overview of the starters! Handled spoilers perfectly and gave valuable insight to help choose, especially the late game / end game viability versus early stat advantages.
I love the sprigatito final design a little less than the second, but they're still by far my favourite... Especially after theif signature essentially being a grass frost breath :)
Yeah, I agree about the second form looking a bit cooler, which is a rarity. But that being said, I still really like Meowscarada's design. It kinda makes me think of Joker from Persona 5, but with a bit more flamboyance and flair.
Had a interesting phantom thief vibe, very fiting to a grass/dark fast attacker.
Meowscarada is more of a phantom thief than a court jester, following the thief look and with their signature move. I love their look already and can't wait to have them on my team!
Same here. I'm sad about it's defense stats but hopefully nothing some EVs can't change. Looks like a glass Cannon but I love it.
It's actually 100% inspired by themes of entertainment and mystery, no thievery afoot.

Technically Puss in Boots has Italian origins, so I guess it makes some sense, but when has that stopped GameFreak
Other than Fuecoco, I don't really like the new starters at all. Sprigatitto has the best looking final form but I dont really like any of the new pokemon I've seen.
Gotta appreciate that they related the final evolution to cultural ties. It makes them much more unique to the games.
i am very disappointed with quaxly. i really thought it would get a weapon...

Right I'm loving the peacock inspiration. It'll be a tough choice between fuecoco and quagsly.
It's growing on me might pick quaxly when I go to buy violet tommorow
I was really surprised too, it's definitely my favorite. I thought before this video I would have gone with Croc.
I'm also an Animal Crossing player, and my favorite holiday is Festivale. So, when Quaquaval showed up I shouted out loud: Pave! Pave is my fave.

OOHHHH THANK YOU!! I was going nuts trying to figure out what was up with the bird it felt so outta left-field!
I disagree I hate these starters
@@chaosthemultiversesamurai4544 well everyone has an opinion and I can respect that, but can you tell me why?

Oddly…if you could get all 3 on one team, they’d be great at covering for each other. Two type core trios in one, and you already found the fantastic combo Skeledirge and Quakeval have with their signature moves.
I was going with Quaxly when the first trailer came out...my son immediately gravitated toward Sprigatito and my daughter toward Fuecoco. Knowing the final typings/movesets, still going with Quaxly...looks be damned! I'm not a fan of the angular parts of Skeledirge's design but I'll still go with Fuecoco I think. I just like the first form the most. I actually think Quaquaval has the best most cohesive design apart from the weird feet, even though it's not really to my taste. Has a lot of personality too.
Yeah I totally agree. Hate the loss of Fuecocos roundness it almost swayed me to quaxly

The way I see it:
Sprigatito will benefit most from an Adamant nature since it already has a very high speed.
Fuecoco could benefit from a nature that raised special defense, but I think a Timid nature would be best for it
And finally Quaxly could either go with a Jolly nature to help out with it’s speed, or it can go for a Naive/Rash nature so it can be a mixed attacker.
As for hidden abilities, I think I remember hearing the Sprigatito had the best one. But I hope all 3 of them have good HA’s.

Cats getting dark type as a secondary typing is just perfect 🤣 First Inceroar, now Meowscarada
no its just god awful
@@jacksonnagle8820 why?
@@Silvervine_Stick because they made them humanoid again and it sucks ass
@@jacksonnagle8820 fair enough, opinion is opinion I don’t really like quakley evolution but the other 2 are fine for me
Thanks for not spoiling them in the thumbnail! I appreciate you!
I'm taking meowscarada as a play on masquerade...since he's definitely wearing a mask. I was not super hype when I first got him but he grew on me. Friends to the end
I do unfortunately keep calling mine a she when he is definitely not though 😅
A new generation, a brand new start. Can’t wait to have those games in my hands tomorrow and watch your tutorial videos as I play along. Let’s have some fun in Paldea, Austin!
💀
I like the fuecoco design theme of starting a nest with a couple twigs, to laying the egg and finally having the baby bird hatch. Definitely choosing him when I get the game
I was briefly leaning toward Fuecoco and Skeledirge for a bit, but out of the trio Sprigatito/Meowscarada remains my favorite in terms of design, stats, and style of play. I liked Sprigatito from the start so I undoubtedly will choose it when I get the game, but Fuecoco is a close second for me.
Grass type actually is the best here. Cause the hidden ability is protean which will change the type of the pokemon in what move you used
that makes me want to pick it more
I think Protean is nerfed in this game. It will only turn to the type it uses 1 time when it comes out of battle.
@@miyuki2685 interesting, thanksss
Fuecoco was my favorite choice from minute one, and i am so happy he is the best looking final form of them all for me.
Sprigattito looks good in its final form, but Catwoman? seriously?
And Quaxly becoming a Carneval/Flamenco Dancer is fitting for a water Bird Flamingo esque thing.
Catwoman???? Holy cow it's a jester
@@billybobbobson3797 I know it should be a Jester but it looks so Catwoman like to me
In their base forms, quaxly is by far my favourite but in their fully evolved forms it’s definitely skeledirge. I was so set on picking quaxly but now that I’ve seen the evolutions, I’m so undecided 😫😂
i was hoping quaxaly would turn into a conquistador... disappointed tbh. imma have to go with skeledirge too
I love quaquaval he's SO FABULOUS.
Same I'm not sure who I want to go with now at first it was quaxly but seeing his final evolution form idk if I'm gonna with him
Quaquaval turning into a stereotypically gay, male, carneval dancer ain't it for me.
Big fan of Carnival themed designs too so that worked out
However, you were tight, Austin. Fuecoco's evolution does look the coolest
Technically it’s a harlequin design more then just being a jester look
I was exactly the same. Meowscarda just looks the best
They all look good honestly
smart move to not show the final evolutions prior to launch, it would have brought negative publicity and they know it.
This will not stop me from using the funny cat until I defeat whatever dark god this game has as its final boss
@@MeloniestNeon will be funny if the last boss is a bug type
