This video goes over one of kirby's hardest combos, Dair Ride. I know it's a very long video going over something relatively simple, but I wanted to be sure to cover everything for anyone who had issues.
For those who just want to get started without watching 15 minutes of stuff
Dair Ride:
Perform a weak up tilt
Perform a full hop/DJC down air, entering the down air as early as possible
Fastfall after the last hit of down air, but avoid the landing hitbox
Repeat/Finish with a down smash
It might look pretty simple, but there are often only 1 or 2 frames of leeway in executing it. I didn't go over everything, like the frame advantage you get at higher percents from the 6th hit of down air, but the video was already long enough!

I'm sorry if the video is a little long and if I repeat myself at times! I really just wanted to make sure this video covered any questions you could have, but I do think there is still more research to be done. Make sure to watch the full video and read the description to see how you could win a $20 eshop gift card just by practicing this combo!
Perfect length
I still dont really over stand how to do it right i have tried for about 3 or 2 hours
Yeah this is pretty enoyying im somewhat getting burned out even more
I just checked how easy it is to do the pikachus nair loops and it only took an hour to do it consistent but i still dont know how to do the kirby dair ride
Is this more viable with an instant double jump down air
A long, detailed Kirby guide with a clever name? That's why you're the go-to for Kirby tech.
Unrelated, I miss your elite smash Kirby videos.. but it can only be so fun doing those.
Juggleboy didn't name the tech.
@@strangejune Its not the tech its the video/thumbnail. Kirby's Dair Ride is fantastic
Though, that could just.. be the name
@@scarletvrgames568 'Dair ride' is the name of the tech, the community coined it.

Melee shorthop air moves: yeah about that
Thats a different video game btw
@@leaffinite2001 wut? In melee if you want to attack asap on the frame after jump squat you have to time your attack on that frame directly after jump squat. It's pretty important in sheild pressure and falcon combos and tons of other things. There ain't no buffer.
@@mello_2586 i know. But this game isnt melee. So none of that is relevant.

If Kirby gets any mobility, he's gonna be small peach.
Lol fr ima start maining kirby now
Yeah
Why not?
@@purpledefaultpfp6233 do you still

Still think Kirby’s inhale needs to be buffed to be able to spit back all projectiles as stars, not just random attacks.
If we're talking about projectiles then the endlag needs to be dramatically cut down. You shouldn't get punished for using the move as intended.
*referring to when he swallows projectiles
@Average Docter yes the endlag does need to be cut down. These buffs would make him better at dealing with spammers. I also think Kirby’s final cutter beam needs to travel faster and further.
Kirby’s specials need to be like they are in his games. Hammer flip when on fire charging should have a hitbox. Rock should also be completely invincible, I have been knocked out of it by a few attacks.
Link 0070 so basically just making Rock a Kaklang that can be cancelled.
16 mins?? Lets gooo! Ive been really putting in my work with Kirby lately and i saw this combo on Twitter with someone labbing and was hoping youd discuss it. Cant wait to watch bro! 💪💪
But then you die to a heavyweight and regret choosing Kirby.
"Nintendo needs to be careful, if they buff down air, kirby would have an infinite!"
no I want that
Yeah bro he deserves it
Now I want dair buffs even more
"Kirby would have an infinite!"
"Yes."
If he had an infinite then he would be pretty hated as a lot of characters who are bad but have one really broken gimmick are really annoying. Think about when you have a little mac at 120 and you are at 10 and you die to a KO punch. You get tilted. Remember in Melee and Brawl when icies had an infinite off of a single grab. You got tilted. Having an infinite is, yes, good in competitive, but having all the hate is stupid
@@esqimo6647 bro its a joke chill
I've been doing something like this since smash 4. I always thought I had just came up with the best Kirby combo in the world.
I feel you, thought I was doing something unique
I always did dair uptilt backair and felt special
Same
So guys aren't the only ones huh
I taught this combo to myself, but ofc, not how to make it true n stuff
The next time someone calls Kirby’s dair his worst move I will literally throw up
Edit: I am genuinely disappointed in anyone below who thinks this
Another edit: I see some of you saying hammer can be used for jab locks and catching jumps and stuff. While you aren’t wrong, did you ever think that that sort of stuff isn’t possible anywhere that isn’t on quick play? Also, just like you say that dair is good but other moves does it’s job better, i could say the same for hammer. Practically any move would be better in any situation. Even in a jab lock, I’d use f smash because it sends horizontally and not upwards. Also did we all forget that dair lasts forever and if you so much as touch someone offstage who doesn’t have jump theyre dead?
SamuraiC tier?
Kirby’s down air do you mean?
chesslo21 dair sorry, he’s underrated as a character too lol
@Cole Stevens the kirby main discord
Cole Stevens you’d be surprised by how many people say it’s worse than hammer
Airride is one of my favorite Kirby games, I’m surprised I didn’t catch the pun until I started the video!
“Frame perfect isn’t viable” somewhere mew2king got shivers
14:47 I dont think people realise just how careful Nintendo has to be.
Let's take my main Ken for example. So currently, he can't true combo d-throw into full hop nair. This means, if I down throw, I can only use up air for a true combo which doesnt have too many follow ups.
Now let's say, they give d-throw just a few more frames of hitstun. Suddenly, I can combo d-throw to nair, and then nair combos into itself on the way down, and then I can combo that into the spike of down air or sweetspot forward smash.
You see how just a few frames made the difference between an ok punish and a true combo spike punish? And that's just one example. As he said, there are so many things so many characters can do that are just frames away from being outright busted.
That's why I think it would be better if they incorporated a stronger ability to DI out of the combo. They need more defensive options when you're in a combo and they need to buff everyone to allow for more combos in general
If you're labbing this out in the training mode map, I've found the best way to consistently link the up tilt into down air as a true combo is to make sure the little white spark that appears when you input the dair shows up below the halfway point on he second square of the grid. (So 1.4-1.5 squares above the ground)
Thanks juggleboy! I've actually been practicing the dair ride for quite a while, and with this new explanation I have a much better understanding of how to preform it consistently and optimally. Keep up the great work, and again, thank you!
I wouldn't *DAIR* challenge this.

I never thought dair up tilt loop would actually be a true combo, i loved practicing it like it was a real combo never realizing it could be a true combo
Dude how have I never seen that the up tilt down air combos.... I’ve watched every damn Kirby video on the internet and your telling me we had a damn near infinite combo after like 65 damage. And now it combos into down smash. You’re telling me I could’ve been taking people from 65 to death this whole time.
This is going to be an essential combo for all Kirby mains to master; if they speed up dair even by 3 frames, this combo becomes even easier to execute and more reliable. So it's great to see more people paying attention to this! (But good luck getting this on wifi)
I generally don't have too much problem performing on wi fi as long as the connection is stable. Even with the extra delay on wifi, you can still input it the exact same way!
That tip about thinking about the up tilt after the fastfall is insightful. I'll definitely keep that in mind in practice!!
Just tried this out today, so far can do 22 hits (3 loops + downsmash)!
Nice, only together can we push kirby to top tier.
I'm really glad to see more fellow Kirby Players online. I've been a little busy with Min Min, but I think I'm ready to return to the pink puff ball now with this knowledge. I never even knew about Dair Ride.
"Kirby is a simple fighter with an easy kit for new players"
Also Kirby:
Kirby is easy to learn, hard to master.
Wait, you’re telling me this combo is true now?
It was always true! Just easier to finish off now!
Oh, guess I just sucked then xd
Can't do frame perfect combos = suck
I am the suck master
Yo that little trick you discussed to help land the uptilt after the first down air really helped, thanks!
I imagine this as the son of the kirby footstool loop from project m/p+.
Thanks for the guide, I have played as Kirby since the 64 this will help a ton. I’m definitely going to have to practice this.
I’ve been waiting for this vid! Thanks a lot!
Marvelous guide, finally we can point people somewhere when they ask about this combo. You've done us all a great service.
I swear you're growing a grassroots Kirby army everytime you post a video. Thanks for the info!
The editing is great. You did a good job like always
That's a great way to describe the fastfall uptilt
The only thing that would make this combo be perfect is if up tilt had a little bit less knockback and down air was a bit faster and stronger
Edit: also can we take a moment to show how weak down air only dealing about 11 percent and if that doesn’t say something about how bad dair is I don’t know what will
If drill did more knockback, the opponent would be put into tumble way sooner, killing the combo. We only need speed.
I mean 11 percents pretty good for a combo aireal... then again I play sheik and every aireal is a combo aireal that’s under 11 percent
@@sullivanish For a combo aerial that starts on frame 18? No it is not.
@@AverageDoctor345 and a combo aerial that doesn't even combo into utilt with proper SDI
Average Docter It’s better than Dedede’s aerial and can actually combo...which can be more than said compared to other characters
4:40 You can also do this with falco trying to full hop down air to the top platform of battlefield and get the autocancel
Also I can try doing full hop down air and right b4 u hit the ground, u can barely throw out a second down air
One tip I can give is to pay attention to where Kirby is hitting Ike. When you do it right, Kirby will hit Ike with his head rather than his feet. If you're hitting with your feet, it's probably too late. It took me 10 min to get my first one. Then I'd get one every 50 attempts or so. After 30 min something clicked, and I as able to do them somewhat consistently. Just keep practicing them, and you'll get the hang of it. Take breaks if you have to.
I understand this a lot better now, thank you!
This is very useful. Ive been looking for new ways to play all my mains and kirby has gotten a resurgence thanks to his tweaks. Just from watching, forward throw might be the most consistent way to get into the combo, either by using tilt or dair after depending on the launch.
This is a tough one. I can’t seem to stay elevated as long doing the down air. I sink right away
I've been waiting for this video for so long
finally im going to become a god now
Just FYI, you do not have to have tap jump on to instant double jump, if you press jump twice fast enough you'll get it
I keep feeling that Ike is gonna shield then up-b out of shield and absolutely demolish Kirby
BaN KiRbY, hE's So BrOkEn!
Your guides are amazing!
Lmao me, 30 seconds into the video-
"SWEET LORD IN HEAVEN THAT WUS ALL TRUU THOOOO???"
imagine having to play bowser to practice kirby tech
In the video you said the competition has fixed damage off but the clip shown has it on and the description says off. Other than that super awesome video. I never knew this was a thing.
Yeah, I misspoke!
Im sad i cant do this... ive been sitting in training for the last hour and cant even get the ff timing down at 1/4 speed. Always getting the landing hitbox and breaking the combo. At normal speed i dont even make it that far and keep buffering short hop or d tilt. Really wanted to learn this with kirby being a fave character of mine.
I feel you. Kirby's combos are so hard to pull off. What I would suggest doing (and I'm going to be doing this for at least 2 weeks) is just keep practicing until you notice you pulled off a 15% combo. I also haven't been able to pull this combo off, but I'll be trying to practice this for at least 2 hours a day for 2 weeks. Your muscle memory might kick in.
I'm gonna try to win that eshop card, hopefully experience with sheik loops can help me
98 is currently the score to beat!
@@Juggleboy god damn
finally a kirby video :D I love you and your channel.
I just start practcing this a few hours earlier! I gonna do my best with this
Welp being a hardcore kirby main myself. I attempted this. The counter definitlely helps to know if you got it. But one thing is for sure this combo is definitly harder compared to others.
While I will say that this combo is very nice for cleaning up and taking a stock. Some of Kirby's other options are either more consistant or easier to setup. I AM NOT SAYING THIS IS USELSS, In fact quite the opposite. If you can consistantly get this, and figure out good ways of getting it going. I can be devastating. But taling into consideration how matches will be played with the kirb, especially against certain characters, its something that might not be reliable a whole ton.
I just watched all of this and I don’t play Kirby nor do I ever plan to play kirby
can't wait to use this
I think you accidentally said fixed damage off in the video
Oops
one thing i found out is when executing the full hop dair if you can hear the just sound effect while doing the full hop dair it is likely that it wont combo from the up tilt
I appreciate this so much! Now I have something to work out to that's new especially in this controversial time in the smash community.. also.. I know it's better to get use to short hopping by slightly tapping jump, but a short cut is pressing attack and jump at the same time and also down right after... and I mean right after..
you need a perfectly timed fullhop dair instead of a shorthop dair for this
@@fiendfi7119 guess that would explain why I would miss it more than hit it... thanks

Ah yes my favourite game Kirby’s Dair ride.
If there's any minor numerical tweak I want for kirby, it's probably increasing the start up of his u-til by 1 frame. I feel like I'm off with the dair loop by just 1 frame to get it to be consistent with training mode combo count. I don't think kirbs would be broken with 1 frame more consistency.
Epic. This is epic.
what about dair ride 2
Kirby gets a comeback
I can’t do it 😭 Ima be stuck at 200,000GSP forever ;;(((((
Watching this to learn how to counter it. Thanks, good video
Kirby can have Dair ride but Mac can’t have the Dream Land Express
Me a Kirby main: finnaly good information
I don't see the problem making Kirby's dair frame 12. I want him to have "broken" combos; he deserves a big reward for getting in. It's only a matter of time before they buff it; they've been buffing other dairs and Kirby's has yet to be touched (it's also his only unchanged aerial). My boy has been builled enough, it's time for revenge! 😈
No your going to get Kirby Nurfed!
Juggle it:Ha Ha Kirby Dair go spin
this was surprisingly easy to master.
NO MATTER WHAT I DO HE KEEPS FLYING AWAY AND WHY CAN I EXIT TO THE MENU
my man basically be talking about parallel universes, just say it's an uptilt full hop dair. ult players suddenly stunned by something tighter than 8 frames
He basically said that at the beginning, if you didn't want any further explanation (about the windows and inputs) you could have stopped there.
Also many combo's in ultimate are close to frame perfect. Mainly because a couple of important building blocks of combo's are not bufferable like FH --> double jump and RAR Back-air from any move
The C-Stick is really necessary?
I don't know why people use it
Try doing ftilt out of dash with smash stick, that's why people use it
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
A warning to people that want to try this, it is not easy under any means. I have been trying for 3 said now and haven't gotten the combo counter above 7.
And it also can be sdied out of. Granted people just decided to complain about bayo in smash 4 rather then learning to sdi and di out of the combo so most people probably won’t bother trying to. Still though it’s not always gonna work even if you do it perfectly
As a kirby main i applaud you
Edit:👏👏👏
I did one true dair ride, my career is complete.
If possible, it would be awesome to get a video showcasing trying to set this up in a real match online.
bro a fucking CPU did this exact combo on me today and it killed
So I was testing some stuff out and thought
After landing, could you go for a grab?
I wasn't really able to do the combo consistently, because of joycon drift
But still
Could Kirby go for an F throw or something?
Maybe even up throw maybe?
Just I'd mention it anyway
Well, good luck to everyone on becoming the winner ^^
Yup, you can grab, but they will be at too low of a percent to kill with up throw, and too high to combo off of forward throw. So you're better off going for the down smash/up tilt
@@Juggleboy oh, that makes sense
You could still use it to save the combo if you fast fall too early tho
Right?
Not really save, but at least get something out of it
Or is there a better way overall to "save" the combo
Maybe another finish move that is a little weaker than down smash or something?
Or inhale?
I haven't really messed around with it that much yet
This man is the kirbible
yooo got 3 loops of it in training mode! thats enough for me lmao
This is a nightmare to pull off
juggleboy is the MGK of kirby
Great vid!
Im a bit lost about the combo not registering part but that might be cuz im portuguese XD
You said that dair connects from around 60-75% on Ike, but I cannot get a dair ride to register as true for the life of me until he’s at 80%.
(As a side flex, I can get a combo of 57 on 100% Fixed Damage Ike, but I watched the video too late)
I really wish it could show people trying to airdoge or DI to see if its really viable. Me: finishes the video. Aright nvm🤦😂
Been kirby main since N64, 7m GSP just cant get too elite yet keep getten knocked down. Soon enough!
Can't wait to pk fir- i mean dair on elita smash
That is a brilliant name for a combo
I wish I had been the one to come up with it
I knew that this combo existed
[evil laughter]
I’m just happy about the creative name
I literally can only play kirby in smash because when I was a little kid he's all I would play because I could eat people. I've actually gotten really good at playing him lately, even being able to beat my brother at times, who is really good at the game. (I mean REALLY good, he can beat just about anyone in smash)
Who does your brother play? Just curious
Im sorry but how is this worse than hammer?
If there are still kirby mains that hold that opinion, I'd be surprised honestly.
