Great video as always Eric, It's very good to know that we have 2 more Sheffield knife makers coming through, yep there's is some little improvements to be made with Andy's and with Denise's too, I know Andy will have watched this video and the criticisms you said will help him knowing with he can improve on, but I'm 100% confident in their abilities and in time it will show more in their work as their confidence grows, so in my opinions the future is looking very good. Take care as always :)
A fascinating and enthralling study Eric. It is surely right and proper that stylistic differences are apparent in fine creations which are as artisanal as these. The Lee White has it for me, mainly because of the more curvaceous (i.e. sexier) butt end.
I love these detailed videos especially on Sheffield made knives. I’ve been keeping an eye on Andrew’s barlow’s on the Bakewell cook shop and they don’t seem to be selling. I must admit that I’m not going to spend £175 on one of Andrew’s knives maybe £150 until his work gets as good Lee’s but that’s just me. please keep them coming my friend.
Far be it for me to suggest pricing policy to TEW, but I agree with you. TEW prefer that you don’t know who made each knife, I suspect for exactly this reason.
Brutal, but you assess them all the same, and I'm happy you do. At £175, less 5%, I can't think of any others of this calibre at this price. One day...
As Barlow knives go, in my opinion from the ones I have; Lee White makes the best-made one to me of any other. The bolster and round shape of the handle just looks better than any other Barlow knife. It is great to see other makers following the same path as Lee White.
I’ve been waiting for this video as soon as I saw Andrews knives on the website. Not a fan of the recurve on the blade personally but the wider and fatter handle on some of them on the website has some uniqueness and character.
I had been looking at these for a while. I noticed that Mr. Smith's Barlos are bit thicker. I won't buy any, though. I have limited myself to 1 TEW Barlow a year for now!
I have had nothing but excellent service from the Bakewell Cookshop, and from what others tell me, that’s the most common experience. If you are going to continue to malign them, you’ll need to more explicit about your experience.
I saw there were several Barlows using different woods than normally seen on the Bakewell Cookshop site the other day Eric. These are obviously two of those. Maybe I'll message David about them. Asymmetry to me is not a problem but a sign that knives are made by craftsmen and not a computer and I'm sure you would agree?
I do agree. I was ultra critical here, because I think you should know what you’re getting in to. If I wasn’t unemployed, and therefore broke, I’d be buying some of these as, much as I love Lee’s work, I like to build some variety in to my TEW collection.

I’m looking forward to seeing Denise’s work and more of Andrew’s. If I ever get a job, I might even buy some!
I enjoyed this comparison with Lee's work. It's nice to see some new talent joining the fray! Cheers, my friend!
It’s very healthy for the industry.

Yes, I like the stylistic differences, especially in the file work.

Love my Lee Whites. They are a prized highlight of my collection, already considered a family heirloom.
Thanks to you my friend 😁
They are the knives I actively collect. Of my 42 TEWs, all but about 4 are Lee’s.

He’s certainly my favourite! These are true handmade traditional knives, no water jets or CNC grinding here!
Wow Eric simply unreal buddy great stuff that’s awesome buddy good luck with them!!!!!
Thanks Pete, they give me pleasure. If I’m ever back in funds, I’ll send you one to review. You’d appreciate the contrast with the TEW.
I have an Andrew Smith TEW knife. It's one of my favorites.
They’re very good. I think Lee still has the edge, but Andrew and Denise will be just as good in no time.

The slight imperfections are what confirms that they’re truly handmade.
It will take some time to better the Lee White knives. The wood looks more exotic on Lee’s knife
and slightly better made.
Lee is very confident that both Andrew and Denise will make the grade.

I’m not buying anything till I get a new job, and that seems to be taking longer than I’d hoped!
@@slick_slicers Good luck there!
Terrible bad customer service from the bakewell cookshop.
