Shane Burcaw (he/him) is the author of several award-winning books about disability. He is the President of a nonprofit organization called Laughing At My Nightmare, and a renowned public speaker who has performed across the country at places such as Harvard University, The University of Florida, The University of Connecticut, Princeton University, and many more.
Hannah Burcaw (she/her) graduated from Carleton College, where she studied Sociology and Anthropology. She films and edits the “Squirmy and Grubs” vlog, which has over 800,000 subscribers on UA-cam. Hannah has spoken at prestigious universities and Fortune 500 companies alike about the realities of ableism. On her popular Instagram account, she advocates for acceptance of all people and works to improve the way society thinks about disability.
Shane and Hannah have been together for over four years. They got married in September of 2020 in the midst of a global pandemic in their backyard, with their officiant conducting the ceremony via Zoom. Their interabled relationship often confuses people, because much of society still cannot fathom people with disabilities being involved in loving, intimate relationships. Anyone who watches these episodes will quickly see their relationship is just as “normal” as any other. Sure, Hannah helps Shane use the bathroom and brush his teeth, but those activities do not detract from the emotional, intellectual, and physical connection they experience together.

They are so awesome. I discovered them a few months ago and started from the beginning and binge watched up to the current videos. I love this couple.
I've never felt comfortable in crowds but now even more so since Covid. Thank you for taking us on your excursion to Shakopee and showing us the quaint streets and shops. I, for one, felt as if I too had been on a fun excursion with you two. The look of excitement and delight on Shane's face when the food was put on the table was priceless and worth watching the entire video for. What an expression! Great entertaining video all the way through.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to avoid crowds during a pandemic when you have a loved one with delicate health. I’m doing the same thing for my 80 year old ex-smoker of a mother, my “bung lung”* sister & my own fibromyalgia compromised immune system

I live close to the candy store! When we first moved to MN it was Jim’s Apple Barn, then they kept expanding and expanding! It’s really cool but ALWAYS crowded there. During covid last year there was a line of people standing around the building waiting to get in!

If your restaurant ever takes off, I nominate myself as head chef as I have actually shopped around my idea of an all day brunch restaurant. I have a business plan, sample menus, and more (more includes a spinoff idea for a food truck based on simple brunch type items). Granted they are a few years old, so I would need to update them to reflect the current restaurant and financial climate.
Best place for dinner in Minneapolis is Ruth’s Chris, Melting Pot, Sea Salt, etc. Oh, and I love that you guys live by me and go to the same places I go! The candy store isn’t worth it and it’s not very accessible. Aisles are too small, too many people and cluttered.
I agree! I have been there many times and it is usually very crowded. There is a little candy store in Minnetonka that has similar candies and is usually not

Lol so I was just thinking, my mom a couple months back tried to introduce me to you guys, I had already been watching guys for a long long time by then and it made me laugh because she knew you guys are right up my alley, showing humans are humans whether they have a disability and how we need to be more accommodating so that everyone gets to enjoy as many activities as possible. I love you guys, you make me extremely happy. I suffer from severe anxiety and depression to the point of days of agoraphobia and you always make me smile. So I just want to say thank you both for making my hard days easier and showing just genuine love and kindness. Thank you Shane and Hannah, I don’t think I have proper words to describe what you do for my peace. ❤️

AAAGGGHHH!!! You made it to my area of the Twin Cities. Highly recommend waiting for the candy store to be quiet because when it is busy it is hard to get around. Also, there is something to do in Shakopee. I work at a particular horse-themed attraction that I'm sure you've heard of. We are quiet on Thursdays 😁 Have a good day!
As someone from California, someone eating Mexican food so infrequently that they can forget they like it is a foreign concept. 😂

I'm always skeptical of states other than California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas when they say they have Mexican food. As it is, when my son moved to Colorado for work, he complained about the quality of Mexican food there, so I ended up sending him a few dozen tamales. His major complaints were that they used ground beef instead of asada, sour cream does NOT go on the food, and they put black beans in everything. "Why aren't there any taco trucks??"
As someone from Indiana who lived in California, and is now back in Indiana, I appreciate good Mexican food so much more! And yeah, it is in the top tier of favorite food.

@@tracytrebilcox your son and I have the same problem. Only thing good I've found here in CO is sopapillas. Tacos are smaller than my palm and $5 a pop. And i feel like i have to say "no, I do not want green chili on my tacos" more times than not. There are taco trucks but they are few and far between. Don't get me started on the mexican bakeries. Lol

In Minnesota it’s not uncommon for places to be closed on the weekends as everybody is at the lake!! Summers are short in MN so people need to take advantage of the weekends!

For the record, the candy store is ALWAYS busy!! I live near the area and it's always packed. I'm sure it was more busy on a weekend, but even during the week it's busy. Hopefully you'll go back at a time when it's decent! I love that place. But it does get super crowded so good choice not going in that day if you're trying to avoid crowds.

Ayyy I forgot that Shane had a spinal fusion, I was kinda shook when I heard him say that. I just had a spinal fusion done a couple months ago to straighten out my scoliosis, it's nice to come across someone else who knows what it's like to have metal rods in their back lol
I have it too. They fused 7 vertebra to stabilise my spine, afte i had T9 taken out and replaced by pieces of fibula. I had an osteoclastoma tumour there.
I have stainless steel Harington rods.
I am grateful to God it's not in my neck or lower back. That was in 1984.

I am with you @KatieDickinsonJames. I couldn't be more irritated today as I live in the Central Business District of Melbourne in Australia and thousands of people decided to protest our current lockdown, in the CBD. I can guarantee you none of them actually live in the city but in the suburbs but no, they didn't take their maskless faces there. Shame on those protesters for bringing their crowds into my 'home'. Most of our Covid cases are located in the outer suburbs so why they felt compelled to try and destroy the business area, is just purely selfish. I'm trying to stay away from other people so I wish they would stay away from me.

Are you two just as in love as you were in the beginning? Has it faded at all with time? Has the spark dimmed down at all? The emotional spark or the physical spark? Its very unfortunate, but in so many relationships after the "honey moon" phase is over, which i like to consider the honey moon phase those first few months to a year of meeting where two people are getting to know eachother and fall in love and the love is so so strong, you just have that in love feeling. But for alot of people once they move in together and get to really know eachother hood bad and ugly the spark dims down. All relationships have the honeymoon phase die down in the first year or so , this is normal. It’s impossible to keep that intense starry eyed feeling alive for anyone. That’s why relationships are hard work to stay strong and committed

I live in the Twin City area. I've been to this candy store. It is pretty crowded but what bummed me out is the candy is pretty pricey. Also, the older candies are definitely not as good (or big!) as they used to be. I must say they have an extraordinary selection of jigsaw puzzles. It's probably best to call and ask which tends to be the least crowded day and get there when they open. After the kids go back to school might be a better time to go.

I agree stairs are no bueno. I had a total knee replacement in May and found out that I have a few bulging discs. The Mexican food looked so good. 🙂

Hey, it is normal for Saturdays to be very busy. This is when people are not at work & they can spend time with family going places like the candy factory. Go on a Tuesday or a Thursday.
