She just interprets what and how he says things. ASL has it's own form of inflection so a good translator must communicate that or the translation is not correct

The interpreter they're using is so excellent. The way they pick up on Liam's body language and facial expressions and uses that to give what he's saying inflection and emotion in their voice is really special. I've heard so many interpreters who just give a flat word for word. This person gives liams words so much personality.

I was thinking that!! Like what an incredibly family, and the interpreter relayed Liam’s message with such emotion and expression and used full sentences without sounding choppy. Liam was very articulate and expressive and I appreciated what he had to say, and I very much appreciated how the interpreter voiced it.

Yes, there are accents and dialects in sign language. Our German one called DGS ( Deutsche Gebärdensprache ) is like proper, clear German.

lives in Munich could have difficulties to understand the sign language of someone who lives in Hamburg.

OMG!!! Liam is the HEART of this family!!! :D He is AMAZING!!!! I actually find him really attractive (but I'm WAY too old for him! haha)... He's got great style, a sense of humor, smarts, he seems like he's really patient, AND he's all about love and kindness! If only EVERY man in the world could possess these qualities! -Then our planet would DEFINITELY be the BEST one in the entire galaxy!!! ;-) lol
I thought it was interesting that Liam is so fluent in ASL, but his sister and mom didn't seem to know it very well at all. I wonder if his grandparents can "speak" it? Watching him sign made me wish I could understand and speak it as well! I am legally blind, so I've always figured it would be too challenging to learn... but Liam's positivity about everyone learning it was quite 'intoxicating'! ...Maybe it's time I tried to learn anyway! :D I mean, what's the worst thing that could happen? An aurally-challenged person may tell me to back up a bit, when I'm watching them sign, right 'on top' of them... haha! That certainly wouldn't be the WORST thing I've ever experienced! ;-)
Liam- You ROCK!!! I love your positivity and uniqueness! I'm SO GLAD that being bullied didn't crush your spirit... because it's AWESOME, in the truest sense of the word! :-D

Incredible amounts of respect to the mom for understanding how hard her experiences were on her kids and grasping that she couldn't just walk back into their lives and demand that trust immediately, but rather had to re-earn it. Not only that, but allowing and almost kind of encouraging her kids to speak openly and honestly on the experience here to truly show how hard these situations can be on children despite how difficult it must be on her to hear these things as well. In the brief glimpse into their life we get, I really commend who she seems to be at this stage in her life as it's not an easy journey whatsoever.
And obviously tremendous amounts of respect to both kids as well. They seem incredibly mature and strong and genuinely just like great people to be around. Such a motivational family to look up to honestly.

I find ASL fascinating. It's a language that people don't really think about until their faced with it.
My school had ASL classes and I remember they put on this assembly that basically swapped the roles of the deaf and hearing. The deaf kids and kids in the ASL class would act as bankers, food employees, grocery store workers, etc. and the hearing would have to go up and order food or withdrawal money, and it really showed what it's like to live in a world where not many people know your language. I wonder how they do it.

I had a friend who had TCS.
He was the kindest sweetheart I have ever met.
    We met at the hospital.
I have NF1 but was hospitalized due to my 18th diagnose (the GBS syndrome) and from the moment we two got connected we were great buddies.
But then he went to Heaven in one week and I was all alone again.
I was also bullied my whole life, and mobbed at work - the only time I was doing okay was at the University.
So I understand how you feel, Liam.
You need to be strong for your mom and sister.
You have two wonderful ladies in your life and they are happy to have you :)
I am so proud of you, Liam. I indeed am :)
You are a coll guy and you need to keep it up

I have a 1 year old who is behind in speaking, so he would just scream all the time because he would get frustrated that he couldn't communicate with us. That's how I was introduced to ASL and when we started to see him pick up on it and actually be able to communicate with us I just had such a huge appreciation for the language. It really does need to be taught more. I always feel so cool signing to my son and seeing him sign back 😊 ASL is so wonderful and useful! Everyone should learn at least the basics!

ASL does need to be taught! I’m learning ASL because inclusivity is important. Even if it’s just the basics so communication can be better

I imagine in the future, it can be implemented as early as kindergarten, along with other languages like Spanish later on

I love Liam, and you can tell that he's a smart guy. But not like straight A's smart (although he could be if he wanted to). He's just the kind of smart that's been through a lot and that has had to make it on his own in life. And that's a good kind of knowledge, in my opinion. I also just fell in love with sign language and he might have convinced me to pick it up after years of considering it. Last thing, I promise, but I LOVE the way he looks at his sister and talks about her. He's so thoughtful and caring and it's the sweetest thing ever! Such a genuine guy. We need more people like Liam nowadays.

I think it's street smarts vs book smarts you're on about, but I think he's very coherent considering what is being translated from his signing :)

i like how the interpreter uses inflection when she talks. It really helps to convey liam's emotions of what he's signing about.

“I would say, it’s one language that needs to be thought more” ~ Liam
I couldn’t agree more!!! My friend, sister, and I all want to be more fluent in ASL so we can communicate more with people who are deaf/hard of hearing or can’t speak❤️
