Thank you so much for the opportunity to show a little of my background before UA-cam. It was an amazing experience and really think it was a cool idea. 🙏😁👍
My aunt bred Neon tetras for a local fish store when I was single digits old. Always loved watching them swim around. Got my first tank when my son won gold fish at the fair. Rushed to wally world to buy a tank. A 10 gallon is all they had. Bought gravel and plastic plants. One fish died in a week. Second fish died a month later. I felt terrible about losing them. I knew I could do better. Started watching youtube videos to learn. 20 years later I have five dirted, planted tanks. Crazy to think how far I've come since then.
People like Father Fish are pushing this style. But don't forget there are lots of humble Guys out there paddling their own canoe for years. Like Patty. When I lived in SF there was a tiny LFS doing this. There are a few UA-cam vids of that store too. From a Guy running a monster canister filter. 😂
Interesting tanks! He didn't say it but I guess he doesn't change the water very often and I am not complaining! he's so right there are many ways of doing things and still be successful that's one of the things I like the most about our hobby. 😬
You would be correct on the water change question. I don’t have a schedule typically every 2-3 months but only because I feel it’s good for the plants not for high nitrates. 😁👍
@@pattys_aquaticsSame with me actually, apart from that I just add water when the water level gets low. Most of the time water changes are not needed for my setups. Walstad is surely the way to go!
Very interesting fish room. Been keeping fish since 1976. Myself. Noticed the wild varietie guppies. Looks like a lot of homemade lights and fixed tanks. Which is excellent because make most of my lights and have 4 tanks I built one is octagon and 2 old metal tanks I restored. Nice to see someone else doing the same stuff.
I just buy under cabinet led lights from Walmart and plastic gutter from Lowes cut it to length and glue the light in it. You can also paint the outside black, some I covered with wood grain contact paper.
Very nice aquariums, love it. I also keep live bears fish but guppy fish just reproduce like crazy, good I have a pet shop near me, where I can left some of them from time to time.
6:45 A more definitive answer to how does he keep natural dirted filterless tanks would in part be the choice of sand not gravel as the substrate. That is the first step and a very important part of the process.
“50$ huh” 😂 Mine was “it started with a 10 gallon now we have a fish room” She loves it though and loves to brag that we have a room dedicated to fish and loves to show it to people. I’m planning on setting up a native fish room in my garage. Thankfully she’s on bored and is excited to see it finished. Your tanks are beautiful!
Thank you. Pogostemon Stellatus octopus, Val ,Ludwigia and a Tiger Lotus! All easy fast growing plants and my puffer doesn’t mess with them which is good for me😁👍
I have filters in my tanks but really they are just used for water circulation since I only have bio balls in them and don't change filter cartridges. I don't do water changes either, I just add distilled water into the tanks to replace evaporation. I keep my tanks heavily planted like yours. I refuse to do water changes and the fish and shrimp are just fine and breeding.
Gravel works fine for me actually. I use root tabs for most my tanks and along with the fish waste, everything works out just fine. No filter and no co2. HNY!

Thanks, my pleasure as well. It was really fun doing this and great hearing your story!
Happy holidays! 🎄
Very nice. Everyone must find the approach that works for THEM. Super nice tanks.
Nice video!

Yessss! Love this guy. So glad Aquafinity hooked you up. Hopefully, one day they'll ask me!
It definitely was a fun experience 😁👍
This is fantastic! Patty’s fishroom and his way of keeping fish and tanks is very impacting, great imterview! And very fun to watch🙂👍🏻
thanks, Patty is a great guy and super fun to work with!

Pattys fishroom is certainly one of a kind! I've never done any custom tanks before, got all of mine from Petco. How do you make a custom light?
I just buy under cabinet led lights from Walmart and plastic gutter from Lowes cut it to length and glue the light in it. You can also paint the outside black, some I covered with wood grain contact paper.
I have a 40 gallon that is about to be set up and I plan to do a dirted tank. I have a sponge filter and a heater still though.
Absolutely excellent aquarium room / layout looks amazing thankyou for sharing 👍
Awesome video, I really like what Patty is doing in his fishroom
thanks, Patty's an awesome guy for sure!

Beautiful natural aquariums. Greetings from across the pond and Merry Christmas.
Thank you😁👍
Thanks! love your videos btw!
@@Aquafinity Thanks.
Really great interview, I enjoyed it! 🙂👍
thanks for watching Tara!
I stumbled up on this guys channel a while back researching dirted tanks ….all my tanks are dirted except I do run a sponge filter still ..
There’s nothing wrong with filters I just like the extra real estate for more plants 😁
do you ever use root tabs? I use them every once in a while when nutrients run low.@@pattys_aquatics
@@Aquafinity I do not, haven’t had an issue as of yet. I don’t use any liquid fertilizer either.😁
I really like his tanks, beautiful!!
Thank you 🙏
Nice puffer . I got a full grown fahaka puffer in a 75 gallon tank too . What kind of plants do u have in there ?

thanks for watchin!
Puff Daddy 😂 this fits perfectly in to the current narrative
thanks for watching!
My dirty tank i have to grab a handful of plants and remove every week there is so much growth.
That’s the one hassle of this style of tank 😁
Livebearers Rock!!
Platies i have seem to pop out every few weeks.
guppy gang!
Witam serdecznie przyjacielu super piękne Twoje akwaria pozdrawiam z Polski miłego dnia życzę
Dziękuję bardzo 👍😁
Here UK so many large tanks with all the kit for sale on eBay, can be quite cheap hobby.
can’t agree more!
Hi how many hour of light a day is good? Thanks
It depends based on your tank and plants, but usually I aim for 7-9 hours. I also use a timer which greatly helps :)

I don't do water changes either, I just add distilled water into the tanks to replace evaporation. I keep my tanks heavily planted like yours. What is your water change routine?
I don’t have a routine, I do change water but typically like every 2-3 months and not for nitrates only because I feel it’s good for the plants.
Would you agree that gravel (even small-grained) is laborious and troublesome?
I have had bad experiences with gravel and agree with your comment but I have had some tell me they like it. To each their own 😁👍
Gravel works fine for me actually. I use root tabs for most my tanks and along with the fish waste, everything works out just fine. No filter and no co2. HNY!
@@Aquafinity for a stand alone substrate I like gravel but for a cap of my dirt I do not at all 😁👍
I only get male live bears now. after having what seemed like thousands of platy fry - never again!
Haha, they do seem to breed forever! I gave mine away a while back but recently got 3 more. Probably going to end up with a colony again! 😂
Could this work with goldfish ?
I want to establish a well / heavily planted electric filter free aquarium
You can, but the plants need to be goldfish proof. Here are 5: ua-cam.com/video/woKYu9cZoeY/v-deo.html
mmmm he don’t have filters ? Really ?
Nope, the plants and deep substrate filter it for me. 😁👍
