@@FezekaBonda there are times when taxi associations halt their operations, perhaps to boycott some price hikes, commuters do find ways of getting to work. I believe when people are fed up, they always find a way of getting the message across. I cannot believe that a group of people should be allowed to hold the entire country hostage in this manner and they are getting away with it! Only in a lawless country like ours. It’s unacceptable.

Taxi Association people bully us at every part of Johannesburg. I have been late for work many times because they instructed me to get off my colleague's car which was going to the exact same office I worked at. Their taxis struggle to accommodate all of us during peak times in the morning and evening, they will rather you wait and get to work late or use one of their taxis that drops you off far from your workplace. Taxis are such bullies I am so grateful to be working from home now, they tormented me for years. I hate taxis to this day.

There's no political will to stop this criminality - it has been coming on for many, many years - 2015 my friend gave 2 African ladies a lift from Rhodes university in Grahamstown to Port Elizabeth - 10 minutes into their journey they were forced off the road by 2 cars 7 men brandishing firearms - forced him to take them back - many traffic officers and even police have a finger in the pie of this criminal industry

Suddenly we were stopped by this car, and he told my colleague to park at the rank cos he's seizing the car. He told us he will involve the association, or we should give him R500 so that he can "protect" us. My colleague refused, and started to contact his police officer friends. One of the taxi drivers saw what was happening, and he came to solve the situation. We agreed to pay him by the 28th, that's when he let us go. I even moved out where i lived cos i promised I'll get back to them. They're never seeing my money. Ba nyela

The government is the problem here and not the taxi industry alone. The government sells routes to the industry and punish those taxies that don't have permits to operate in those routes. Now when we the public either offer lifts to people we know or strangers (and sometimes for a fee as in hitchhikers), we are interpreted as undermining these operational agreements. Government must update their policies when addressing taxi routes. No one here has ever been allowed to eat their KFC wings in Chicken Licken before. The taxis are harassing the public because the government is failing on their policies

Unfortunately it a banana Republic. We use uber sometimes and drivers are scared for us to sit in the front. There are scared that they will be stopped, harrassed, their money taken and car. Me as a passenger I am told that they will ask me to come out.
I feel that as an individual I have the right to choose the mode of transport I need to use. I live in Mabopane.
Taxis drivers and their boses need to go for refresher courses regarding customer services. How to do business without being a law unto themselves.
They need to learn that people/customers have rights and allowed to choose what they want regarding transportation.
Another issue is drivers using mobile phones when driving 🚗 🙄. This should be banned because people s lives are put at risk
