- A woman who was travelling with her children was verbally intimidated by a taxi marshall for giving a lift to a pedestrian. However, the situation took a surprising turn when a TikTok content creator, also a taxi operator, stepped in. Using his platform, he tracked down the individuals involved, reported the incident to the relevant association, and publicly apologised on behalf of the taxi industry for the distress the woman and her family experienced.
The story quickly gained traction on TikTok, sparking discussions and shedding light on the power of social media in addressing and raising awareness about such incidents.

So essentially, she was kidnapped together with her kids.
I once picked up a friend outside the GauTrain station in Johannesburg's CBD. I was then accosted by five taxi drivers who demanded 1500 from me or they take my car. I was there for 45 minutes, with no cops or security assisting. I eventually paid the 1500.
I have no sympathy for the taxi industry and I am happy for them to be regulated out of business. They have been treating us like rubbish forever.
Sorry brother. In Durban they took my cousins car whom was doing a lift share with his girlfriend's colleagues. I went to the rank and asked who has the car keys, they remained silent, that's when I told them tracker was alerted and we have recorded them take it. They quickly gave me the car. I gave them my number for future sakes. My cousin stopped the lift club
Where in the constitution does it enshrines about R1500 fine for picking someone on the streets, they are crazy ...
Thanks to Bolt and Uber, taxi industry is starting to smell the coffee of competition, they have been monopolizing the industry for long....
@@harryramphele7102 no constitution to enforce this but it is no different than having no street vendors and hawkers near big centers, malls and certain schools. Same type of monopoly near taxi ranks exists and people who ride them mostly know this, obviously they are more criminal than the other. I agree though we need competition now but let those competitive companies be African or South African
What happened to that rascal?
@@RastaAfricanGentleman😢😢😢Imagine
They must give her R300 back. They are not the law. At some point, we have to rise against these thugs!
Please fire that man and never let him work around taxi industry
Remember most of the police officers have taxi business, uber business when you Report this crime to the police, they don't do anything.
Yes police they don't attend you when you report them
The Lady should open a case of Extortion and being held against her will…
Exactly my point
Its very sad that our country has become a lawlessness. One cannot give a lift to a friend without being hassled by gangster😢💔😡
We can't even have conversations with friends standing on the side of the road without being victimized by a taxi driver for not stopping them. I was a victim of not stopping a taxi when it passed because I was still having a conversations with a friend, when the taxi that I was in reached the changing spot, that where I was put in a taxi I didn't stop and the driver harassed me trying to remove me from a taxi. As commuters we feel like we are owned by taxi operators
U cant even travel with ur family 😢😢
Mdletshe is an outstanding man and his character as an operator continues to change the narrative in the industry. I fear for his safety though because he is challenging a lot of things
What gives the taxi operators so much power over the communities?
Guns.
@@TheChaz789 the have guns , even police they wont do anything
OUR GOVERMENT
You asking simple question its Guns.
The answer is there in your question,
communities
On behalf of all the man in RSA I'd like to take my hat off to the operator who stepeed in. Thsnk you Nomzana
shout_out to the man in the studio.. He really is a brave yet smart man...i salute 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Salute
That guy belongs in jail,period!
Easy hustle they don't monitor thier taxis but private cars which thes no law In RSA that says don't pick up people in streets they belong to taxi industry...
Thank you DA for defending citizens from these thugs in Cape Town.
Let then come and try it here, JP Smith and team loves the unlawful behavior, in order to set an example! Well done COCT, well done JP Smith.
That still happens but not in town or the suburbs, ask anyone living in your Townships
No wonder they hate the myCiti ,such lawlessness i tell you ,the law in South Africa is so lenient and coddles these criminals.
exaclty
Cape Town is the home of gangsters in the taxi industry
Hopefully, they will fix this situation. They have been abusing us for almost a year now.
A year?
🤣🤣🤣@@mrtee4878
4 years
4 years
Not a year or 4 years , it's long time story
My dad is even scared to pick up his family at the mall. This is so wrong we can't have a car at home and still use a taxi 😢
These man must be arrested including those with firearms, are those firearms even licensed?
Why are you excluding vulnerable men because not all men can stand their ground
I think it's very tricky to stand your ground as any kind of man or woman, especially in the heat of the moment when these people are "upset" , you may be outnumbered , and they may be carrying firearms.
Men's lives don't matter in our country
No one can't stand against the taxi people no matter how powerful you might be
The whole association will be against you
Up Godole Up, sifuna amadoda anje e South Africa, Syabonga bhuti omncane ukhule nje.

Syabonga Godole uyiQhawe🤝
Give them car and call the tracker company to retrieve it.. matter-of-fact report it as theft(stolen).

I was kept inside the boot of my car , they even planed to pour petrol and burn my car while I was inside th boot,😭😭😭😭 guys this is trauma, even my kids when they heared about this incident and my being detained by th LAW enforcement , they cried so painful.😭😭😭
Eish 😢 ... I was actually held at gun point by 2 of them that i ended up giving them my phone and the R200 i had 😢 .
Too much Netflix and DStv 😂😂
These people carry guns, shamboks, and stick weapons even. They do as they please, drive on sidewalks, harass other drivers and drivers giving people lifts. It’s been going on for years and it’s sad having to leave someone you know on the street in fear of these thugs. Santaco needs to be stricter and there should be a helpline of some sort for incidents like these which one can report on the spot. Better solutions and repercussions should be put in place to protect citizens and dealing with offenders.
Godole you are a real man
SABC failed to bring in Metro and transport MMc to elaborate, that taxi associations don't own roads. they only have jurisdiction on routes against other taxi operators, not ordinary civilians or other modes of transport. I can tell my cousin to stand next to a taxi rank I'll pick him up from there and I should not have to worry about being fined. As long as someone is not pointing out a taxi sign they're allowed to get a lift, it's a free world. Whether on the side of the road on anywhere - ordinary drivers should be free to drive around without fear of Taxi drivers and associations.
Police are also scared of taxi marshals
Get this guy a hight position in the industry
Taking someone's car keys without consent is classified as car jacking they did samething to me at MTN rank jhb and i activated my tracker and that marshall got arrested and jailed for 8months
Kidnapping, unlawful arrest and unlawful, trauma, etc. Criminal charges can be laid. Also, civil claims can be instituted against that Thug and his Association.
Absolutely!!!!
In this instance you give them the car and call tracker to retrieve it.
SANTACO needs to publicise the responsibilities of Marshalls. In that way, the public will know what is expected of them.
My daughter' bag was thrown out the window by a taxi driver who drives/drived from Joburg cbd to Northgate. It was at night around 7pm and dark. In the bag were her ID bank cards etc. We reported to the police to the Bree taxi rank and nothing happened to the evil guy. He was still driving. It's so sad just like reporting rapists is a wast of time.😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔💔💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔
This is a common problem,we were abused by taxi Marshals for my husband picking us up with our kids.
What surprises me is why the shock and dismay over this incident because we all know that the taxi industry is the bully of South Africa, who are we motorists to expect to be treated any better. What Sis Rebecca is saying is what surprises me because the taxi industry gets away with everything and anything let alone bullying and threatening a motorist
Taxi owners they don't know what's coming for them. Nobody owns anyone in this world
She was supposed to leave the car there and call the tracker because the keys were with them
You all know that taxi marshals and drivers in general are law unto themselves. What’s shocking here, it’s just that this was taped on video.
Taxis are privately owned so are our cars. Taxis don't own people. They're not regulated that's why batella so
The taxi industry is a mafia business, especially in Gauteng
The taxi industry is a stumbling block to our country's progression. The ANC is afraid of them, and taxi drivers are allowed to continue bullying us.
The taxi industry are doing this everyday to uber/bolt drivers everyday demanding money from them telling them that they are not allowed 🚫 to come pick up people.Riders request uber/bolt to certain places when the driver gets there they say they have arrested a car and the driver has to pay 1500rand.This is nonsense from taxi industry.
Every business has competitors, why now are taxis feels the need to abuse people like this😢
The marshal should be arrested for extortion.
As a motorist, Terrified of taxi drivers, they own the road and never follow road laws, they are above the law. Nothing will happen and this will be forgotten till one day something even worse happens.
I am a white woman. I do animal welfare in the informal settlements
I often give lifts to people who have to walk kilometres back to their homes. They anyway do not have money to pay for taxis
Sometimes women who have to walk from the houses where they do domestic work to the taxi ranks. Because they do not have the money for all the shifts. In the rain. In the 37 degrees of heat. Often people going to town looking for piece jobs. I dont ask for money. Ive been offered, but declined
Every time those people who i have helped were so grateful
My question is: should i keep on helping, or am i in danger
He must be arrested this one,its hijacking
So even the Santaco spokes person avoided the question which was asked on how they are going to deal with the chairperson that threatened this guys life. Mxm she thinks that we r kids 😂😂😂
Politics gave taxi Industries power!!!
The problem is most of these marshals and taxi drivers are not that educated at all, so reasoning is a bit of a challenge. They dont understand the basic laws of business, all they understand is violence. I remember catching a taxi from Carlton center to Riverlea with Nancefield taxi and Riverlea taxi association RTA refused for me to drop off at my destination. I was forced to drop off about 2km from my stop. The worst part is I was in the taxi with a pregnant lady who also dropping off at my stop, I completely cancelled RTA. I will never board taxis for Riverlea Taxi Association and I have found out that Im not the only one who is not using RTA taxis because of their attitudes.
In this interview we needed a police official
Thanks a lot Godole
The taxi marshalls think they own this country
TAXI BUSINESS WILL DISAPEAR VERY SOON , ORDER ON LANE SOME ARE USING ELETRIC SCOTTERS. IN UK BUSES AND TAXI HAVE RUN OUT OF BUSINESS
😂 you dreaming
Thanks man for helping the sister 🙏🙏🙏
THEY STORMED MY WIFE 'S CAR IN VENTERSDORP,THE CASE JUST DISAPPEARED FROM THE POLICE WITH HELP OF THE PRISECUTOR
Big ups to the lady in studio for catering to a wider audience in terms of explaining in different languages.
Lol im surprised that this much people are surprised by this... its been going on for years
Thank you Mr mdletshe for not speaking English
A leader takes the correct initiative
This is a criminal offence, intimidation and extortion. She must open a case and press charges. Let it be a lesson to ALL. We can't be a lawless nation. There are consequences to every action.
UKUBA BEKUYINDODA NGABE KU RIGHT?
akuko rite neze ukukhomba umuntu nge sibamu
This thing happened a lot to us as community,i once took a lift from my neighbour, iwas very far from the rank when he noticed me and gave me a lift, within few minutes a taxi came passed us n cross the road in front of us 3 man come and start to fight with my neighbour asking him why he took us as his got not license for taking people the fight was hot they demand the money,i gave them the money for that trip they took the money ,but stil they carry on fighting with my neighbour, they always carry guns when they do that,it was in KZN ,from Mdakane to Dundee, its avery bad experience my neighbour was very much traumatised by that situation, its so 😔
same problem nase Engcobo kwade kwafa abantu, 2 years ago ndamiswa ndiqhuba imoto from engcobo to JHb ndabuzwa nge ID phofu phofu ndilayishe abantwana bam
One of my colleagues at work also gave a lift to a fellow colleague was also accosted by taxi drivers and threatened 😮😮😮😮😮
This happens everyday....taxi industry is lawless when it comes to law
They once verbally abused me for giving a lift some youngsters who were going to work and I ws driving a company car. I lied to them that I started work that day, then they demanded 5k fine, alternatively a ransom. I promised to pay them month end and we exchanged numbers. I didn't pay. I just blocked them all.
I dont think this will end .it has been going on for long.mybe when Jesus come
This is intimidation, these taxi guys are the ones doing extortion and promoting for protection fees to be paid to them and other criminals
Taxi drivers think they are law unto themselves
Akaboshwe ngangizo fonela abakwa tracker
Thanks Mrs phala' " you know people like that guy are the ones who destroys the Taxi industry and the relationship between the taxi business and the customer "
The taxi industry should not push disadvantaged people against the wall. People have overthrown governments, powerful n influential people. They must use apartheid regime as reference, guns n intimidation won't a revolution. They should work with the community not against
This guy Godole need a big Thanks he live among community ❤
Dankie Godole ngyathanda lapho, kuvikelwe umphakathi, and isizulu ulwimi lwethu, ofuna uklizwa akalufunde.
The bosses are the one who allow them to behave like that
Its Sis Danisile, .... not what the Santaco lady is saying
So sad story! Taxis need to know that commuters has a right to choose any mode of transport they like
Horrendous treatment of a woman by the taxi Marshall, please help this is getting out of hand. How come are they not made to account for the horrible behavior. 😢😮
This thing of taxi drivers needs to be taken in a serious note, before we motorists act
Taxi industry is a killer’s den.
Now this is the content we signed up for.
It clear that taxi industry wants to operate as monopoly . Unfortunately this is a country , everyone must follow the existing law not trying to create their own law because they are not the police.
You get ride of your competitors by improving the quality of the services you provide, not bullying them😢
Even at malls you can't Uber to your house it's like they choose for you the mode of transportation
They did this to us on our way back to JHB from EC. We were using one transport and they wanted us to pay a fine of 1.5. Yheey I refused , spoke to one of the taxi owners and they had to let us go. It’s bad, ungovernable cowntry!
It's not about women lets talk about all humans
Our country this is breaking my heart such abuse 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
This was straight hijacking, sisi must open a case, once you take car keys automatically is a hijacking
Taxi drivers and que Marshall's in Rustenburg are the worst I have seen a lot of violations, harassment and intimidation. I pray that they be exposed through social media too !!!!!!!!...
Godole uchubekile kakhulu and uhluzekile engqondweni. I'm ukumbona ekhula njenge Ndoda
They do this all over de country
Thank you Chief
They did a same thing to my friend he paid R5000 on N2 for picking up people going to richardsbay if he didn't pay R5000 they said he will pay R25000 at the offices to release the car
Just look at that. We are now at their mercy at this point, police can't do anything because themselves are involved in this shenanigans 😢
Big up to the camera man for that video that attracted the attention
It was her children who recorded the whole big up to the kids
Let's work this thing out bhuti uGodole. This issue is not about women only but all of us on the road, being ill-treated these so called VIP Protection of yours.
