- Before we 'The Chitans' started singing as a group and before some of us were even born, our parents Layne and Karen sang together. They sang together in The Caribbean and also when they migrated to British Columbia, Canada they sang in a group.
When we moved to Toronto, I was just a toddler, so I could not remember much of being in British Columbia nor my parents singing .... as most of you may know, once mom and dad had us, they pretty much stopped singing on stage. However, growing up, I heard my parents sing in worship, around the house and in the congregation at church. I also got to watch videos of them singing with their group in BC. Of the songs that I had seen, this was one. This was also the song they sang when I heard them sing for the first time on stage.
Moving to Toronto wasn't the easiest time for my parents, but God was with them every step of the way. In the moments when they couldn't see a way through, God provided strength and a new path. By faith, they Pressed On.
As I reflect on the history of Black people and on the lives of my parents, there have been moments of distress, but in the name of Jesus there is restoration and hope. May we be reminded and encouraged to keep pressing on with our eyes on the Prize.

VERSE 1
When the valley is deep
When the mountain is steep
When the body is weary
When we stumble and fall
VERSE 2
When the choices are hard
When we're battered and scared
When we've spent our resources
When we've given our all
CHORUS
In Jesus name we press on
In Jesus name we press on
Dear Lord, with the prize
Clear before our eyes
We find the strength to press on
