Thanks for great video. I just got an F3 with non working meter - shutter fires at all speeds, but A mode doesn't work - mirror gets stuck up, and I can't see plus on the LCD. Is there any chance that cleaning some contacts would help?
Hi, greetings from Havana. Recently I’ve got out of the closed my old F3 Nikon. The stop ring (not sure this is the name) get really slow, it takes minutes to get it back to the current f stop I’m in. Is there a tutorial on how to service that part? Thanks so much for the videos, I’m facing a DYS project with this old camera and the videos had been really helpful.
The F-stop rings get dirty and needs cleaning. They can be tricky because the tension on the ring is provided through a string linkage and if you jump the string off the pulley system you may have to remove the mirror box to put it into place again. Also people who clean it tend to get the string trapped and some have broken the string. If you do this cleaning be careful and only pull up the f-stop ring as far a you need to get under it.

Yes, there is a fix. Not for an amateur to do though. The polarizer is the big issue, you need to repair the polarizer, but it's not something an inexperienced person should attempt because if you make one mistake, you will tear the circuit board. I recommend you send that in for repair.
Hello, the LCD on my F3 is really dim. It works properly and has no bleed. It's just ready din especially in some parts like the + and some sections of the 2 in 2000. In your experience what are the chances it's just the contacts that needs to be cleaned of will I need an LCD replacement? I know it's hard to guess without seeing the camera. How much do you charge for the CLA?
I have just a few LCD's left, it is the one part I need badly. Usually when they fade they don't come back, it is the tracks on the LCD deteriorating so replacement is needed. I only do complete overhauls on F3 cameras so I can completely warranty everything. I normally start at $250 plus parts but a really bad condition F3 would be higher.
Nice video! Just FYI and for others working on this camera, that little metal plate is actually made by Nikon. If you check the repair manual, its labled Contact Plate #157. Otherwise really great video, you helped me out with this one, thanks for that

When i look through my viewfinder, sometimes the aperture shows and sometimes it kinda blurry, is there a way to fix that?
The aperture is viewed with a mirror system in the finder. Sounds like the center mirror is bouncing around.

Yes you are right, Nikon used them to take up the slop in the button and I need to edit it out. Thanks for bringing it up.
