    Uk island
    That was their point of origin. Chris Blackwell was a brit that recognized these great artists and gave them their freedom to be unique
    The brits loved Marley early
    It took a lot longer in the US

    Michael, always enjoy your contributions and videos. There are folk who think you are inexperienced and not worthy, but I would say to these very same people, and I say this as a record collector for more than 40 years, experience is relative! Your thoughts and content are, at least in my books, very appreciated. Great job, as usual.

    Sadly, I have to let this release go by. I doubt that I’m the only one, but being relatively new to this hobby I have spent a small fortune on records and shipping to Australia in the last few months alone. Miles’ ‘Kind of Blue’ 45 is my only UHQR so far, which was roughly $300AU after shipping, and at that cost I certainly can’t afford to buy everything they release. It really comes down to what title they choose and what the record means to me.
    It takes discipline to resist the fear of missing out, but I work hard to earn an income which is stretched to the limit already, and christmas is fast approaching.
    Of course I still love to hear about the record, and as always we get a thorough and thoughtful review from you Michael. The cover looks stunning and I wish I could add one to my collection, but there will always be other releases to get excited about!

    I could care less about new audiophile albums like this, but that cover is very impressive. Record collectors are into records for the tactility, and that textured cover definitely satisfies that desire.

    The vinyl sounded amazing. I’m extremely happy with the sound. A couple things were negative with the packaging. I had a ding (small dent) on the top of the box. And they just grabbed any copy to send. The regular number of what pressings were not on the box, it was just on the back of the cover (jacket). I noticed that you covered yours up. Well, I ordered mine right after I got the notice of the release, and my number was over 2,700. Usually, my UHQR are under 500. But I can just imagine that they grabbed any cover and put it in the box. So, the people doing the packaging need to slow down and use more care. The number system should be checked with what orders came in first. We’re paying good money, get the quality back up there. That being said, the sound quality was fantastic!

    Excellent analysis Michael. Capturing the bass is the most difficult thing to pull off - if you get to hear what was recorded on the tape, you can hear the compromises the original mastering engineer had to make to achieve the cut. The limitations of the technology at the time - sometimes! This sounds as if AP have pulled it off and you describe this so eloquently. Thank you. I’m working on a Marley release now and there are so many challenges, including technical defects in the original pressing - I can thoroughly understand and respect the efforts Chad puts his team through - I’m hoping that with vinyl reissues getting more expensive, those efforts inspire every label to do the same. I know they won’t, but I’m hoping enough do. Love your channel, an absolute go-to for me and many in our industry.

    I passed on this one because I am not the biggest Bob Marley fan. There are so many good releases coming out these days, I think many of us have started to be more selective with what we are buying. It's just not feasible for some of us to buy every audiophile release that comes out as much as we would like. That being said, I think it's very cool that Chad is putting out different titles and not just recycling the same ones over and over.

    After having collectors replace all their vinyl with CDs in late 80’s/early 90’s, they are adding 125-150$ UHQR duplicates of what they already have 30 years after, arguably hearing a detail here or there that sounds more this or that. Crazy!

    So Michael greetings again from Radio Tower Records and you have done it again! Yesterday Bowie in Berlin and today Marley - what can I say? I sat 2nd row at The Rainbow in London in 1977 and watched the tears stream down Marley's face as he sang 'War' a song from Rastaman Vibration based on a speech of Haile Salassie. RV is of course a huge Marley record and an interesting start for Chad and I can only hope that there is more to come form the Marley Estate. (But, please, please, please, make sure Catch A Fire is the Jamaican release and not the sugarcoated UK version - ask Chris Blackwell if you need confirmation). Rastafari!

  • @lucullus6127
    @lucullus6127 2 роки тому +1

    I agree. This a crazy expensive release IMHO. I’ve a few different original pressings of this album where the original UK first pressing is the best sounding of them all when played on my vinyl rig. The original is killer sounding with a lot of details in the sound image as well as a big soundstage, it does already have the audiophile attributes in it IMO. I guess this release is even more ”audiophile sounding” but for me it isn’t worth it, I love the originals I’ve and really enjoy the drive and the raw energy on those masterings. In my experience that drive and raw energy somehow get lost on audiophile reissues in some cases. I think it’s great though that classic roots reggae do get some well deserved attention when an album like this does get released as an audiophile edition. I believe the buyers that get it will enjoy it a lot.

Could it be that Abbey Road Studios did include the bass that was in the original master? We remember that there was a time when recording studios lowered the bass so that when playing on cheaper turntables the needles would not skip the track.

    As usual, something critical from me: Packing it in an extra box is a totally unnecessary waste of resources and completely incomprehensible these days. Nor this packaging is aesthetic. On the shelf, it screams: Look what I can afford. This is the opposite of what the music wants.

    I suggest that you be blindfolded for these comparisons and that you ask your wife to put on each of the records without telling you which is which. Then do the evaluation. It might even surprise you which one you like! Needless to say, that’s not gonna happen. I’m sure you’re wife has better things to do.

      Why?

    • @ericlubow4354
      @ericlubow4354 2 роки тому +2

      I would think the answer is obvious. Perhaps his choices for best disc would be different. Clearly, there may be some bias here since he usually prefers originals. Not knowing which is which would seem to me to be a better test.

    • @andysmusicden
      @andysmusicden 2 роки тому

      @@ericlubow4354 sometimes the original is better, sometimes the reissue. I believe Michael’s reviews has shown that this is the case. Why would he be biased? He has no horse in any camp and just wants to find out which one sounds better to his ears.

    • @ericlubow4354
      @ericlubow4354 2 роки тому +1

      I don’t think anyone would doubt that people are influenced by their preconceived opinions. Thinking that the original, for example, is usually superior, might indeed influence his decision.
      My main point, though is that it would be interesting if he would have made the same choices had he been blindfolded and didn’t know which record was being played. My long association with audio has taught that people think their ears are better than they actually are. Audiophiles are way too confident about their discriminative abilities. If you doubt that, watch some blind tests on UA-cam. Professional violinists, when blindfolded, often could not tell the Strads from a modern violin. Some didn’t even know when they were playing their own violin.

    Sometimes things are limited edition because that's all they think they can sell. If they think only 2500 will sell, then make it limited edition and get some people off the fence.
    I imagine the population of vinyl fetishists that want audiophile versions of reggae is quite small. It's reggae after all. You know we've reached peak ridiculousness when we start getting punk UHQR records.

    Sorry Michael, these UHQR releases make absolutely no sense anymore to me due to rising costs of living and weak Euro currency. 249 Euro for Bob Marley UHQR and 289 Euro Steely Dan UHQR 😮! Also the Rastaman recording in 1976 has definitely not an audiophile character.

      For me, the UHQR’s are at a price I could afford but if it’s not an artist/album I’m interested in then I’m not buying it. It’s just more than I personally would want to spend and we all have that limit in our heads whether it’s records or buying a gallon of milk. There’s a price point where we just say thanks, but no thanks. They could cut down the price if they got rid of the oversized box they put it in.
