    Somewhere close is the vein shedding all those chunky pieces. You should bag up some dirt from each hole you dig to pan out and track the fine gold to the vein.

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  4 місяці тому +2

      I don't think there is a vein that is shedding gold - I think its a mineralized shear / fault zone that is producing the gold.

    Nice finds. Your Gold Monster may have told you that you had iron junk on that deep nail under the root. Not so the 2300 or Zed. Even a magnet would have helped with the bit of wire.

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  3 місяці тому

      The gold monster is not a detector for seeing deep. It would do fine descriminating the shallow trash, but even with the bigger coil would not have seen the deep nail or the big deep nuggets. The GM1000 is a great detector for shallow and smaller gold.

    I found a tiny piece where they were clearing dirt off a cliff for mudslide precaution and piled it on the side of the road. Put dirt in the bucket and went to the creek. Came back with a sluice and water to trek up the creek and climb where the piles of dirt were but it got too late and I was too fat. The area is not know for gold so wouldn’t surprise me if I was just lucky and there’s not much else there. Not you are finding with a metal detector. I posted a video to my profile that will probably give the location away.

    you should build a electromagnet that oscillates turning on and off really fast because with that you can pickup gold the magnet picks up gold

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  4 місяці тому

      A metal detector is an oscillating electromagnetic field generator. You'd need serious heavy equipment and thousands of kilowatts of power to suck nuggets out of 6 to 12 inches of packed soil.

    NICE FIND !!!
    I know its a pain to carry around 2 seperate battery tools, but using that mini chainsaw to cut roots, in dirt, hurt my soul LOL.....
    any dirt like that will wreck the chain on a saw in short order.
    I used to keep a small chainsaw in my vehicle for path clearing (clean wood), AND a small battery operated reciprocating saw (with cheap, easily replaceable blades) that i would take out in the bush for root removal.
    A 5pk of cheap saws-all blades at ace hardware was about 5$ and i could cut hundreds of roots with those 5 blades... a new chain for the little saw was 18-20$ and if it touched gritty dirt, even once, it was 20 minutes to resharpen it, or 20$ for a new one.
    Food for thought 🤷‍♂️

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  4 місяці тому +1

      The cutting of the roots was a very unusual necessity. I carefully cleared dirt away and avoided contact with the dirt. I've used it since just cutting clean wood, and there seems to be no noticeable change in operation.

    • @John-ir2zf
      @John-ir2zf 4 місяці тому

      @ChrisRalph ah, lucky man !
      When I prospected a lot, roots were a CONSTANT hassle. Seemed everywhere I needed to dig, nature wanted to claim that spot and make me work for the treasure.
      On the rare occasion where a prospecting friend would would chide me about cutting a root or two of a live tree, I would reach up and cut a branch or two from the canopy hahahah. Then explain to them that a trees root network and canopy are proportional to eachother.
      If you dig out 25% of a trees roots, it won't die if you remove 25% of its canopy to keep those proportions in balance.
      The issue comes when a tree has more canopy than roots that can sustain the canopy.
      And I somehow knew a guy of your age and lifestyle, would likely already know the hazards of dirt and chainsaws.
      I'm glad you had a productive trip !

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  4 місяці тому +1

      Most roots I deal with are less than an inch in diameter and can be chopped out with the pick.

      Cool! I go out there from SoCal when it's not hot as well. No gold yet after a year and mebbe twenty trips but found lots pf neat stuff so far. Plenty of #8 lead shot so I'm on point just not over gold yet. One thing that's cool is its easy to see the geology in the desert mountains so it's a great learning environment. I do not go on the club claims, do my own research and try likely spots with good geology around the fringes of claimed up areas or on old unclaimed workings.. Gonna start exploring the southern edge of the mother lode soon. I'm part mountain goat so I go into areas that require some hiking. Lots of interesting looking areas in the remote eastern Cali desert as well as southern sierra that get overlooked I think. Also been doing some exploring up around Frazier park but access is difficult these days around there. Almost need to backpack or ATV where possible to work those areas now.

    In Alabama around the end of the Appalachians, we often find deep rusty iron, because flash floods, as well as creeks slowly changing course due to sediment. I run across pieces of rusty barbed wire all the time in the middle of the woods, where no farm ever existed. They are from loggers around 1900. They used barbed wire to make temporary pens for their oxen used to drag logs. My great uncle was a forman in a lumber camp back then. Otherwise, where the barbed wire came from would be a mystery to me. I also find pieces of pipe, which were parts of their steam "donkey" engines, which they moved from place to place, assisting them in logging. They even set up temporary logging railways to transport timber in those days before logging trucks, so occasionally people find an unexpected railroad spike.

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  4 місяці тому

      Some places do have plenty of deep rusty iron. This one has some but really very little. Below about 3 inches, there is very little trash.

      When the target in in the dirt, down an inch or more, the magnet will not somehow suck it out of the ground. Once dug, then the magnet can help, but you still have to dig. I do have magnets on my pick.

    Fantastic video!!! Love watching your videos. Especially the twelve mistakes prospectors make. I think I have watch that one at least 6 times. I have been Prospecting now for over 40 years. Mostly all of it in rivers and streams from Washington down to California. 5 years ago I was layer off so I decided to retire down in Arizona. Mostly for my golf, but I still love going out mining. I have really struggled in the desert. I am finding a little bit, but not really worth the work I am putting in. 0.10 of a gram is my best day drywashing. And I usually shoot for a yard of dirt in a day. I have sampled everywhere. I am in two big clubs and listened to everyone that will give up any info. Most of my claims are up in the Stanton area of Arizona. On the big Alluvial fan from Antelope creek. Any helpful hints to get me started in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. And if your over this way sometime, I would be glad to get you onto some claims that look really good. Keep your videos coming.
    Thanks Red

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  3 місяці тому

      Sounds like you need to try more places. 0.1 grams is not a good result. Usually when dry washing I am happy if I get a gram or more. There are places out there, you just need to learn more. I dont know the Stanton area that well but there are many club claims.
