- Judge Mathis' wife, Linda Yvette Mathis, filed for divorce from the TV judge on Aug. 22, according to court documents obtained by TODAY.com.
In the documents, Linda Mathis listed their date of separation as July 17 and she also cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their split. Linda is now seeking spousal support from Mathis, whose full name is Gregory Ellis Mathis Sr., and is requesting that her requirement of spousal support be waved.
TODAY.com has reached out to reps for the Mathis family for comment but did not hear back at the time of publication.
Mathis and Linda Mathis have been married for 39 years. The two tied the knot on June 1, 1985, and have since welcomed four kids, Jade, 39, and Camara, 36, Greg Jr., 35, and Amir, 34, together.
In 2022, the family gave fans an inside look into their lives when their reality TV show, "Mathis Family Matters," aired on E!.
In the show, Mathis talked about his marriage to Linda Mathis and said his family is his greatest achievement to date.
"The star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is certainly my highest professional achievement," he said in Season 1 of the show. "But I got to say, it was really my family that was the foundation of my success. After coming out of the streets in Detroit, Linda allowed me to work 15 hours a day, 5, 6 days a week, so it's that support that allowed me to the success that you see."
"Our love and support runs deep," Linda Mathis added. "That's how the Mathis family rolls."
Aside from his family reality series, which touched on personal family moments, Mathis also appeared on his self-titled TV court show for 24 seasons until 2023, when he launched a revived court show that same year called "Mathis Court With Judge Mathis."
The couple's divorce news comes after the two appeared to be on good terms in March at an Influencers Brunch. In an interview with Baller Alert the couple discussed whether their "Mathis Family Matters" show would return and opened up about how they stay so close.
“We are a whole family, a wholesome family,” he said. “We all have our flaws, but we don’t fight. Never have… If we have to fight, the answer is no [to returning].”
Linda agreed, adding, “Black families are great families and no, they’re not filled with inter fighting… We want to have a strong influence on our community and show that.”
