- The plaintiff and defendant met on a reality show about entrepreneurship, and he says the defendant has been picking on and trying to trigger him. The plaintiff and some of his friends purchased an LLC in the defendant’s company’s name, and he said the defendant could buy the LLC from him. The defendant hasn’t paid, so he’s suing. The defendant is countersuing for defamation of character and emotional distress.

Registering an LLC is not the same as trademarking nor are either the same as internet domain name registration. Mathis used a federal law that has to do with internet domain names and applied it to a State law for registering a Limited Liability Corporation. In California there is no time frame for doing business under the name of an LLC. All that is required is that you pay an annual fee to the State.
