Precisely that, Mr Goodall, well said. I would also add that age is no guarantee of wisdom, and certainly not of integrity. It wasn't millennials that landed us in this present mess.

      What 'present mess' exactly?
      Compared to when?

Mhairi Black is one of the standout MPs of recent times and she was also one of the youngest ever when she entered Parliament (20/21 years of age i believe?), so the obsession over MPs being too young is outrageous. They are less likely to be tainted by outside influences than older MPs?

18-24 year olds overwhelmingly vote to support Labour - maybe if the Tories had MP's that made even the slightest effort at representing them that might be different - why shouldn't these tens of thousands of voters have representation from someone of their own demographic?

if you don't know Tony Benn's five questions of democracy that he posed many years ago, here they are “What power have you got?” · “Where did you get it from?” · “In whose interests do you use it?” · “To whom are you accountable?” · “How do we get rid of you". 10 mins ago Charlotte Owen now aged 30 was officially made a life peer, she will now be known as Baroness Owen of Alderley

If the Tory candidate had been 25 and won they’d all be saying how great it is to see young people in politics

Kier Mather private school - Oxford -lobbying -parliamentary aide guy who has come straight off the production line of Blairite career politicians.
    He worked for Wes Streeting
    He’s relaxed about child poverty.
Give him a decade or so and he'll be doing PR for a private utilities company.
His first utterance was to waffle right wing ideology about benefits.

Let me guess, you’re one of Jeremy’s unhinged nauseating little fan club, yeah? He’s never said he’s relaxed about child poverty - that’s a blatant lie. He said the public finances are in a mess and Labour shouldn’t make any uncosted commitments - it’s called honesty. Why does anybody need more than 2 kids anyway? You get child benefit for 2 of them. Plus there’s other policies to get people out of poverty, not just child benefit. No guarantee parents would even spend the money on the kids - let’s get real now. Maybe celebrate more young people in Parliament instead of sniping. No doubt you’d prefer some white male dinosaur who sounds like a 1970s Union baron🤦‍♂️

Keir Mather, 25, may be young, but he has been elected to his political role. Catherine Owen, now 30, has just been made a life peer with not one member of the general public voting for her.
Mr Mather has stated what he stands for and has become the MP for his constituency as a result. If the constituents decide they don’t want Mr Mather in the future, he will lose his seat.
Who actually knows what Ms Owens has done to be elevated to her new role, and was it merited? Sadly, we can not get rid of Ms Owen in the same way as an ordinary MP, like Mr Mather.
I sincerely wish Keir Mather the very best and hope he will represent ALL his constituents honourably. And, yes, we need many more young people in parliament for all (and more) of the reasons stated.

What people espousing this kind of viewpoint always ignore is that 50-60 year old people were all 20 once upon a time.
No 20 year old has ever been 50 or 60, so one group has an experience advantage over the other.
If you've worked since you were 16 and have a family, there's no reason a 25 year old wouldn't be experienced enough to sit in government.
However, people straight out of university who have never lived independent and have almost no idea how the real world works have no business in government at all

Let me guess, you get your ‘news’ from TalkTV, GB News and Facebook?🤦‍♂️ Labour actually believe in an NHS unlike the Tories, so that’s one reason to back Labour all on its own. That’s before you mention they’re not corrupt and incompetent like the Tories. Then there’s the fact they’ll stand up for workers’ rights, minorities and actually believe in climate change as well as not believing that economic hardship is a price worth paying - the sooner the Tories are gone, the better. Keir Mather will do a far better job than some of the talentless far right dinosaurs in there currently who should be representing their constituents, not presenting their own TV shows - where’s the outcry about that?
