The vast vast majority of people do not use twitter. The news media should take their cue from them and find another way to reach the masses, and I heard of a new, novel way to do it: print on paper.
I’ve left X and I would recommend any sensible person does too. There’s nothing of value left anymore. Since Musk removed all the moderation the platform is just a toxic cesspool of bigotry, lies and stupidity.
No doubt. Staying on the platform endorses Elon Musk and odious views and practices. The only reason why Twitter is still a thing are the journalists who stay on. Once you start breaking the news elsewhere, it is game over.
I work in the tech industry and have teenage kids - few people I know use X very much, if at all. I think media etc. think it’s more important than it really is.
I'm sure I saw previous stats that only 1 in 5 of the population is on twitter. And 80% of posts come from 10% of users. So 80% of what's on twitter comes from 2% of the population.
I love that we're having this much-needed discussion but, at the same time, I find it heartbreaking. I worked as a Social Media Officer for a Catholic charity and I lost that job because my boss hated it when I strongly recommended that we at least transition away from Twitter. This was from a moral perspective (re Musk and the changes you mentioned) and, to try and convince those obsessed with targets, I backed that up with the fact that our main demographic weren't on Twitter and that we're better off focusing elsewhere on social media. The events of recent weeks, I think, have vindicated my decisions against that horrible homophobic bully of a line manager.
Yes leave twitter. Every right minded person should! I left shortly after Musk took over and apart from occasionally feeling like missing out on being able to see first hand photos and videos of breaking events, I’m so glad I did. The moral argument has to take precedent.

When setting up social media for a new environmental campaign, the consultant was also very despondent when it came to twitter. TikTok and UA-cam is where the next generation is.
the EU and UK should work together with Startups to create a non US social media/news platform, where users should send in a copy of their passport and bots should be squeezed out, why are we so under the thumb of American tech
A simplistic question, perhaps, but is Musk in 'X' primarily for the money or primarily for political control, or are the two equally equally important to him? Given his personal wealth, it seems to me that the ability to influence others in politics and news in general is more important to him - and that's where the great danger lies.
It's neither. He's in it for the data collection which will inform the AI he's building which will also form part of SpaceX. Seeing as how you're so curious, can I recommend some independent journalism or at least doing some of your own research instead of just relying on a podcast which itself is backed by a different billionaire who may or may not have their own agenda.
