Their best album imo
I seriously think this is their best album yet, just flawless front to back. As someone that isnt huge into the metal side of prog, it strikes a perfect balance between melodic and crushingly heavy (see Give me Hell, that entire section is stupid heavy in an amazing way). I wouldnt be surprised if this was my favorite album to come out this year, its for sure the most obsessed about a metal release I've been in many many years. Thanks again for having it on the channel Jim!
Thanks for watching!
One of my top 3 bands with Leprous and Periphery. Great album. Just got to see them live again and they are awesome live.
You're in for a treat Jim! Love your reactions and your channel! Enjoy charcoal grace🤘
Thanks so much!!
I'd never heard this guys before so this was quite the revalation.
Interesting soundscape, great production, immediatly goes on my watch list.
My son has commandeered the TV this evening so let's have a little Caligula's Horse. This does sound a bit heavier than before, perhaps up a couple of notches in quality also though I'm not overly familiar with their previous output. Definite hints of Haken but that's what you can say about most decent prog-metal these days. (Shows how they're the benchmark now - formerly set by Dream Theater and met by very few others). Last year I predicted in January that Riverside would be number 12 in my end of year list. This year it's February and Caligula's Horse will take that spot. get your bets in early!
Oh, I am excited to see your reaction to this album.
It's great!
@@JimNewstead Going to see it when I have time. To me it's going to be definitely in the top albums of the year.
Wow didn't expect you to listen to this! My favorites here would be the opening track, Charcoal Grace IV, and The Stormchaser. I'm all in for songs with great outros like these ugh.
Amazing tunes!
Those are my favorites too, but also MUTE!! Might be the best song on the album for me. Absolutely top-tier C-Horse. I saw it live recently and it was phenomenal!
Great record! On to side 2! :)
When I heard Caligula's Horse for the first time years ago, I liked the music very much. But the singer was ... just ok for me, that's why I never bought an album. So let's see what the newer stuff will do for me. Isn't it a phenomenon, that sometimes some people love a singer so much and others don't and next time it's the other way around and none of us really can explain this. It's just the feelings and emotions that a voice can evoke ... a voice can bring some people to tears and leaves others completely cold ... I guess that's something we simply have to accept.
On to part 2
I found your channel with The Dear Hunter and loved it. I was excited beyond compare when I saw this drop. Cheers Jim
Glad you enjoy it!
That color on the LP is beautiful, I wish they had these colors in my album purchasing days....
Isn't it beautiful?
Oh I can't wait for this one Jim. Early contender for my AOTY. Though... from everything I've heard from Job from a Cowboy's new album it may be topped just 3 days from now...
It's in my (admittedly short) list too!
Third favorite of the year. Good album. Behind Steve Hackett and the pineapple thief for me.
I have both but not listened to either yet!
@JimNewstead It's more to do with my preference in style. I always ejoed Caligulas horse, especially the vocals. The last two albums have followed a more syncopated style, as have Haken, which I don't enjoy as much.
I really enjoy a couple of these guy’s records. This one is slowing growing on me. I do not know why it is taking so long. It has everything I love about prog rock/metal genre. Cannot pin point the reason I do not love it yet. Not for lack of trying
Sometimes things take a while....
Good evening Jim.
An honey golden record.
I love the start of the song. Then the heaviness starts. No problem at all because it sounds very good.
I don’t like the distorted voice in between; luckily it’s only a small part of the song. The normal singing sounds good. I hope they won’t do the distorted singing in every song.
All in all a very good song.
Second song. I don’t understand much of what he’s singing. Musically it’s good.
So a thumbs up from Will!
@@JimNewstead surprised?? 😄
@@palantir135 no, not even slightly!
@@JimNewstead 😂😅
