    This song is so beautiful and made me cry. I’m a 45 yr old lesbian raised Christian and just the sheer fact of accepting I was gay was a challenge for me. To know that I would go to hell and the rest of my family and friends would go to heaven without me terrified me. I tried so hard to be straight I dated countless men. I can’t tell you how many times I cried in church begging god to accept me. After years of battling with myself I finally accepted being who I am. Decades later I’m now married to my wife and I’ve never been happier than I am now. Your music and I mean every single song has hit home to me in some way. I have never loved an artists music more then I love yours and I mean that. I got the opportunity to see you in Orlando and I couldn’t believe I got so lucky to actually meet you ❤ You are an amazing person and artist I can’t wait to hear more new songs I’m so happy your posting new material and I hope I get to see you again xoxoxo

      @@kathleenomalley7838hi ❤ your welcome. As hard as it was for me to write that, it’s even harder for me to know that it will always happen in our world. No matter how much time goes by and no matter how nice people think they’re acting, the hate will always be there. The key to overcoming it….living in a town that’s safe and staying off the comment sections online lol ironic don’t you think 😂 The only reason I’m even here is for Mary ❤

      Dear sister, I’m of Jewish ancestry and as you know Christianity politically evolved from Judaism. Interestingly enough, the Noahide people (those who believe in the same god as the Jews but didn’t convert to Judaism - there are still Noahide people to this day), we’re not forbidden to be lesbians. So, God really is fine with it. Enjoy your love and may you be blessed.

      @jennifermoore643 I get you, I'm a 72 yr old lesbian raised as a Roman Catholic, which I left that church at age 18.
      The patriarchy the church was established abt 325ad during the Council of Nicea during Constitine's rule.
      The clergy at the time Removed the information of the 12 female apostles and that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalena and they had 4 children 3 sons and a daughter.
      Religion keeps people separated and waring against each other.

    As a bisexual trans man who was disowned by his entire religious family for marrying a woman ten years ago this both breaks and heals me.

    Thank you so much for this, it means the world to me. This song really does gently capture the heavy emotions felt by those of us who still practice religion. I'm a catholic lesbian, I know the struggle extremely well. No one raised in any christian denomination wants to feel abandoned by or even hated God, but so many others in the church do not see us the way Jesus does, and claim to speak for Him while telling us our faith no longer matters in the eyes of the most Holy. All because of something we can't change about ourselves. He loves ALL of his children, including us. God's love is fully inclusive, He doesn't discriminate. This song is truly healing, and very true. Thank you for this lovely and beautiful gift of song! So many of us needed to hear something exactly like this. Thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart.

    Dammit, she made me cry again. I'm an old man described by my kids as "the straightest, whitest, most middle-class cis-dude Ever" - but they cover the queer spectrum, so I know it comes from a place of love :) And the way religion - most particularly American Evangelical religion - treats them, is why I am...unchurched and apostate. Thank you, Ms Lambert, for giving my kids - and the people who love them! - a voice.

    I've missed your music! Thanks for coming back. We've all missed you💗💗..
    Edit: I've been playing this on repeat. I bawled my eyes out... I am going through a lot right now and this song speaks of all the feelings and thoughts that I am battling with and unable to say to anyone. "Does salvation mean everyone but me?"

    I came out as a gay woman at age 48. This was after a long-term hetero marriage in which we raised three magnificent humans. I was raised (70s/80’s) to believe life’s highest virtues were to serve others, raise a family, and to be “normal”. Being gay, despite all of the signs, was never presented as a path. The term, “Lifestyle choice” was ubiquitous. It took a long time to come to a sense of autonomy. I am now living authentically as a wife to my wife.
    Thank you for using your beautiful voice to sing truth to power. 🌈💜

    It is so healing to hear queer positive songs from someone who doesn't hate on religion or try to shame people who are spiritual. God knew we needed you, Mary 😭

    • @eustace88
      @eustace88 2 місяці тому +1

      There are countless "queer positive songs" "from people who do NOT 'hate' on religion". And spirituality and queerness- name a more stereotypical duo. I hope you find peace and healing within yourself and do not take others art personally or a dig at your insecurities. I wish people would work on their OWN faith and -selves- really. This is the exact position that feeds bigotry. You used words like hate and shame painting some imagined common picture of queers persecuting religion, when we know the literal truth is the opposite... very telling.

    This is so beautiful. When i started listening to the lyrics, this is what I saw in my head... I could easily see you asking the Minister for use of the facility for the video. The Minister asks you what the song is about so you hand them a copy of the lyrics, hoping for the best. As they started reading the lyrics they began to shed tears, and then they pulled you into an embrace and said "yes you do belong, and of course you can film here."
    Sorry if this sounds weird, that's just how my brain works atm. Love the song, love the lyrics, love the video. Please keep making music.
