I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with Carrie (or Heathers in general) this much but here I am, and I totally agree that we needed her as I Say No was the first little push that got me into Heathers
It's so comforting to hear you talk about how emotional I Say No makes you. The part of that song that ALWAYS ALWAYS gets me without a doubt is the "BUT I LOVE YOU" and Veronica just goes "...dude." As somebody who was in an emotionally manipulative relationship for 4 years, and who listened to I Say No for the first time while still in that relationship and felt absolutely trapped, like, people who have been in similar situations know that the minute they say "but I love you" is the moment that you crumble, you give in, and you stay. The first time I heard Veronica just go "...dude" is the moment that I realized that if she can do it, so can I, and because of that, I was able to get out of that horrible relationship. I'm so glad that song exists.
Honestly, I once saw Idina Menzel perform when she was sick and you would 100% hold your own in a sick sing-off with Idina. Just saying. I can’t believe how great you sound in the video.
For the record, Idina Menzel is also a complete beast and managed to sing Take Me or Leave Me, Defying Gravity, and Let it Go while sick, so this wasn’t meant to be a knock on her, I just legitimately think you’re THAT good.
I was in the audience on the premiere of I say no at the other palace, you were insane! Kevin asked me if I knew the show well as I was conveniently dressed in full Veronica costume and then told me to watch out for act two! I can confirm I was the girl hyperventilating with excitement of the fourth row 😂
Jamie was soo o o o o gooood as JD. I was sitting there thinking, damn Jamie is so charismatic im so lucky to be watching him , and by the end of the show i was like "holy shit , i hope he doesjt look directly at me that man is scARY"
I've been obsessed with your Veronica and Jamie's JD and I recently watched the whole play... I CANNOT believe you were SICK!!!! Absolutely amazing, I'm in awe of you.

My favourite thing about Carrie's Veronica is that she seems more determined and in control to the point that it's actually hard to believe she "wanted someone strong who could protect" her (to quote Dead Girl Walking Reprise), and I think "I Say No" is a great way to reinforce that aspect of the character's personality. Plus, the song is an absolute bop haha
I’m a singer myself and when I get tonsillitis I lose my voice completely so you are an absolute hero!!!! This is absolutely incredible, you would’ve never known in the slightest that you were unwell. Props to you!!

I honestly feel like that little break in your voice adds to the emotions of the song if you get what I'm saying? Like, Veronicas at the point of crumbling and it just shows that so well! You were such an amazing Veronica, I wish wish wish I'd known about Heathers back then and been able to see your amazing interpretation of Veronica ❤
this was so interesting, i love this kind of behind the scenes talk! and i'm amazed at how strong and beautiful your singing voice sounds even when you were so ill!
1. This is amazing. 2. Carrie is a fantastic Veronica 3. Jamie smiling during I Say No is a super cute tidbit. 4. A reaction video for Dead Girl Walking would be amazing!!!
That timing was something I loved sooooo much. It didn't smack me back into reality with an "oh yeah, singing" feeling that I sometimes get with musicals. It was so seamless. Just beautiful.

Just wanted to say how much I appreciate you "speaking out" (if that's the right phrase) about how exhausting that show/role was and how helpful it would've been to have an alternate. And I especially respect and I appreciate your mentioning the pressure from the people higher up for you to do every show unless it was absolutely impossible. Anyone who knows any of the "lore" about Heathers the Musical should know and understand how challenging of a role Veronica is and how much of a toll it can take on any actor. In general I feel like there's not enough respect for challenging roles in theatre ("It's just playing pretend") and while obviously it's not working in a coal mine, it's still very intense and involved work and certain parts can be really exhausting. I hope it can become a more common practice in theatre to have alternates for really taxing roles, and I hope that can happen for some of the women's roles out there as well. Obviously I know Hamilton started out having an alternate since Lin Manuel was very busy both working on the show itself and with being a new father, but I'm so glad that happened because it helped make alternates more "mainstream." Even with an alternate for part of the Broadway run, Ben Platt was practically run into the ground playing Evan Hansen and it took a lot of time for him to recover. Obviously shows like Dear Evan Hansen and Hamilton and Les Mis have much bigger budgets than Heathers did, but I really hope going forward the team will make an effort to have a Veronica alternate (especially for the tour!) so that no other actresses have to wear themselves out in the role. So- thank you for talking about this and not just brushing it off. Not overworking yourself is such an important thing that especially gets brushed off in this industry and I hope that as more people speak up about it, changes will be made.
Even though I've never been able to see one in person, I'm obsessed with musicals. I'll listen to the soundtracks and imagine my own version of it in my head. I prefer musical numbers to pretty much any other kind of music. So when Carrie started Heathers I immediately listened to the whole soundtrack and fell completely in love with it. I even showed it to my brother and he loved it too. When I Say No came out, my bro and I listened to it together and it became my favourite song in the soundtrack (Dead Girl Walking is a close contender though). Anyway, Carrie puts so much fire and emotion into the song that I can't help but cry every time I listen to it. It's so powerful. And when i'm having a bad day, I blast it on high and sing at the top of my lungs. It never fails to cheer me up.
@@AndreaMGC oops excuse my weird typo on the last comment there, its late 😂 I feel you. I'm just your standard curvy size but boy those seats are tiny and my big arse feels snug in some of them! They are very old and people used to be so much smaller in both height and weight when these theatres were built 😅 you never know, one day!!
Carrie: *watching herself belt Amazingly, Broadway Quality, Outstanding, Show Stopping, superbly* Also Carrie: *pauses video immediately* OH DeAr I wAs SoOo SiCk DuRiNg ThIs WhOoPs 😆 (Love you Carrie ☺️)
I remember sitting in the audience when the song started and I raved about it to all my friends because it’s the song we never knew we needed. Also the lighting on JD that made him look like he was in black and white was genius. Truly was Veronica getting rid of her demons and I think a lot of people can relate. You smashed it
That song is so powerful because of Carrie! Amazing doesn’t cut it. The whole show was so special and leading the company with so much talent and class (even with tonsillitis) as your first time! Girl, you are too much!
I seriously can't explain how much I fell in love with Heathers after I found it through you. Your version of Veronica had feeling so fierce and like I could conquer anything. I made a version of your blazer and it just makes me so happy. Thank you for sharing your version of this performance because I've watched this and it gives a fresh look at what you went through. Really sweet of Jamie to give a bit of encouragement during such a tough moment. I almost cried watching this because of how much meaning I Say No has for so many young men and women (myself included). Sending lots of love to you, Oli, and Edgar. 🌻💛
I commented this on the first one but I’m gonna comment again lmao 😂 I would love to see a reaction video to you singing dead girl walking because you were incredible in that song! (And this song too ofc!!) ❤️
Carrie, you are such an amazing performer! The fact that you could belt that song while being sick just shows how amazing you are!!! That is one of my all time favorites that you sing. I have attempted singing "I Say No" but I cannot belt it like you can. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!
I went to see Heathers at The Other Palace before I Say No, which was amazing. Two days after I went I heard it was put in, so I went back to try and get another ticket, and somehow there was ONE ticket left at box office at the best seat in the house tbh, right in the middle at eye-height with everyone on stage. Definitely did not keep it dry that day!
1st - I would love to sound like this with tonsillitis XD (Only had it twice in my life, but always f**ked up my voice) 2nd - I hope now that we know what a viral infection can mean, the "higher ups" and fans are more understanding if an actor is off for a week to recover. After all, we're not machines. But allowing yourself to recover is the hardest I find - the pressure actors give themselves is probably the hardest.
I came to England on my study abroad from Canada and Heather's was my first and only West End show that I saw while was in the country ❤️ it was the most gorgeous musical I have ever seen ❤️ you made me feel so many emotions, thank you for being amazing 🥰
this song is probably the most powerful song i've ever heard because i've been through traumatic relationships in the past and finally i stood up and said no
Just want you to know that when I’m mad, angry, sad, any emotion really, I can get in my car and drive and play I say no, and just feel 100% better. You’re amazing Carrie.
In response to all of the comments about your version of Veronica, I saw the show for my birthday, June 14th during previews at The Other Palace, and ended up sharing a bench in the lobby with Laurence's parents. They told me that they'd seen every version of the show up till that point and that they thought you were the best Veronica. It's incredibly difficult to make a role your own when the fans are expecting something else but you did an amazing job.
I’ve never believed in watching bootlegs on principle and in fact have only very recently discovered slime tutorials. As a result of being bed bound since before covid though , I am now trying to watch a few now as a way of finally seeing some productions I love and wouldn’t get to see any other way and not just loving and appreciating musicals but it’s the best way of helping my mental health too as a result of being stuck inside for so long and not having any interaction with the world. I love Carrie for listening to her growth, and her chatting about all things musicals, and her love of books too and she along with my daughter has inspired me to want to set up some kind of book club to when I move if I can. People were talking about what they felt like being like during lockdown for five minutes. Yet suddenly the world opened up online after saying for years it was too difficult to do things. Gradually things are going back to normal apart from things people have forgotten to take down. It was lovely for that short time to have things accessible for us for once as music and shows especially just make you feel so happy and positive, no matter what is happening in your life. I so miss live shows but hopefully when we move and finally get some care, I can potentially look at being able to get out of bed again and eventually get to see a show again before too long. That is my dream anyway. Love to all ❤
I remember going to the second to last show of heathers at Haymarket, and it was just magical; if you would have told me that you were ill while performing I would have laughed at it, because it was nowhere to be seen or heard. even though bootlegs are iffy I absolutely love that one, because it has the exact same energy that the show I went to had; I can still remember Lauren and some other members of the ensemble standing at the side of the stage singing along to dead girl walking reprise, or Jamie dancing in a corner of the stage at a point where JD wasn't present. thinking of the show still makes me cry of happiness, which says a lot considering how 2018 was the worst year of my life.
Your react-videos are definitely very different from the usual react-videos I see on youtube and I adore your videos for it. You manage to describe you and your feelings and all the background information so well. So on point but with so bloomy descriptions that everyone can eactly understand where you are coming from. And even when you give not so nice information, e.g. about the management of the musicals vs. the health of the actors, you are able to give it with so much care and no accusions or bitterness, that the viewer can really understand all the sides. Very reflective, very deep, lovely :) I would love to watch more, if you decide and like to do more of them. :) Greetings from Germany
I feel like I SO relate to your illness problems finishing heathers. I’m chronically ill and was basically pushed out of my job around the same time. It’s so great that we both now have new exciting things coming up ❤️
Pleased you have something great coming up ☺️ I had to leave a job because of their awful responses to my health at the time. It was the best decision I ever made so I hope things work out amazingly for you ❤️
I’m gonna take a moment to appreciate how freaking GORGEOUS you are! Blue is definitely your color, not to mention that you make an incredible Veronica 💙👏 - a Heathers fan from the USA 🇺🇸
I just discovered this song earlier today. Two hours later I had it memorized, then bought the sheet music. I think what is so good about it is that it’s Veronica taking agency back after kinda losing it to the Heathers and JD. It’s her saying “I know I’ve done some fecking shitty things, this isn’t who I am. So instead of letting it continue or wallowing in self pity, I’m gonna do the right thing. Y’all are gonna make my life suck, but I’ll be better for it.” The other reason I fell in love with it is because it’s a distinctly 80’s sound as well. I hear hints of Heart, Roxette, Pat Benatar, and other 80’s “rock chicks”. It’s honestly some of my favorite musicians, and your delivery is up there with them.
West End Heather's always reminds me of Thailand, because I listened to the album SO much when I was in Thailand in March last year for my brother's wedding, it brings me right back to that first shower in the hotel, after the 14 hour plane ride, it reminds me of the pizza I always had there, of the trips we went on, such amazing memories ❤❤
I love that you weren't playing the veronica people "expected", I think that's whats amazing about theatre - every actor brings something different and I loved your take on it!
Honestly, you're my favourite Veronica actor- and Jamie was AMAZING as well. *hehehm* "Veronica SAW-yer" and "Las vegas to BAWH-ston" But back to you- despite the illness you still sounded AMAZING!! my favourite vocal moment HAS to be in dead girl walking reprise where you sing the "got no time to talk im a dead girl....WALKKKINNNNG" the way you drop the 'walking' down is STUNNING!! And I say no is amazing and you did great!! You also looked stunning, you were so good aahhhhh- As an aussie, i wish i could have seen this in person rather than via bootlegs :(( Thx for your time :)))
I'm only just watching this because I couldn't bring myself to watch it last night. Heathers became my everything 2 years ago, I saw it 8 times and I have never loved a show and a cast the way that I loved Heathers. Watching this video hurts my heart because I miss it so much. 😭😭😭
I was there on the last night, I had no clue you were ill until watching this! My dad (a 51 year old head teacher) has been obsessed with heathers ever since I dragged him along on that night. Absolutely loved it ❤️
I have been watching this bootleg version since April because I'm in New Zealand so there's no chance I'd ever be able to see it live! But oh my god this entire show brought me to tears, Carrie is the PERFECT veronica - her mannerisms, her chemistry with the rest of the cast, her voice!!!! I love this show so much and it has really helped me get through lockdown
I'm not that big of a fan of Heathers, but when I checked the West End version and heard this song I definitely had to add it to my musical tracks playlist! You're fantastic!
It wasn’t until I heard I say no and listened to your cast recording that Heather’s became one of my favorite shows ever. You were the core reason for that and you are PHENOM!! Would have never guessed you were sick!
I would LOVE to see you react to the other scenes from this bootleg! It's amazing to know what goes on behind the scene! PS. oh my god i can't believe you went and fixed the audio issues to make it perfect!
You were amazing in Heathers, the whole cast were just perfection. When I heard 'I say no' for the first time, I was one of those people in the audience that cried... such an incredibly powerful song. Thanks for being the most wonderful Veronica! ❤💛💚💙
I can't believe how important this song was for me in finally giving up on my father. It was hard and I still use this song to remind me as to why I did what I did. "You need help I can't provide" hits me every fucking time haha

When you mentioned being super sick during this (btw I couldn't even tell bc you sounded great!) I wonder if, going forward, things are going to change with expectations, from both upper management & audiences, of performers going on despite being ill (or injured!). I really hope so, because the amount of stories I've heard of people going on when they probably shouldn't have is astounding! (myself included! it's very hard to be immune to the "show must go on" mentality lol). It's simply not healthy for anyone, not the performer nor the cast/crew. And given the current situation, that's not something one could even imagine happening if theatre were to go on as normal. IDK if you listen to the Daily podcast from the New York Times but in a recent episode they highlighted the one Actor's Equity sanctioned production going on right now in the US and it's Godspell over at Theatre in the Berkshires. there are very very strict rules with health and safety and the cast/crew are contained in quarantine bubbles. Super fascinating listen, makes you wonder if that's how things have to go in our industry moving forward.
Man this song. Used to play the cast recording on repeat when I decided to leave a situation where I wasn't happy or healthy. Ultimate 'you know what, f*ck this' anthem.
I was introduced to Heathers the musical through you and I have absolutely fallen in love with it the more I watched your vlogs and listened to the album.
I watch this final show of heathers as I watch my friends on graduation day. Don't know why but it just feels the same. The show looked like a wild ride start to finish and Carrie had to juggle so many responsibilities, hardships and expectations. Idk why but I just feel really proud watching this hahaha
Watching this and for some reason sobbing. Haha my six year old just came up to me grabbed my face, wiped my tears and said, "you need to stop watching that show mama."

Not overworking yourself is such an important thing that especially gets brushed off in this industry and I hope that as more people speak up about it, changes will be made.
Carrie you need to react to Addams family with Oliver
Why have you never been a keep to see a musical in person? :( one day!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼
Emily Peplow I’m a big lady. I don’t fit in normal seats at theatres so I hide in my den of shame and listen to music on the internet 😂

You killed it as Veronica! I wish I could've seen it live 😭💕
Samee
Somebody give this woman 5000 awards and maybe it will come close to what she deserves because that is INCREDIBLE
Speaking of Olivia Moore, you should react to her singing "I Say No". She was amazing!
No one can beat Carrie tho
I commented this on the first one but I’m gonna comment again lmao 😂 I would love to see a reaction video to you singing dead girl walking because you were incredible in that song! (And this song too ofc!!) ❤️
Yesss! Still possibly my favourite song from the cast album
Preferably the reprise
1st - I would love to sound like this with tonsillitis XD (Only had it twice in my life, but always f**ked up my voice)
2nd - I hope now that we know what a viral infection can mean, the "higher ups" and fans are more understanding if an actor is off for a week to recover.
I so wish I could have gone! The connection Carrie always seems to have with the audience is amazing. I would love to see her live in a show.
Les mis, Éponine bootleg is the most confusing sentence to people outside of the MT world 😂
In response to all of the comments about your version of Veronica, I saw the show for my birthday, June 14th during previews at The Other Palace, and ended up sharing a bench in the lobby with Laurence's parents.
Love to all ❤
This song is so powerful, I'm so glad it was written and I'm so glad that you were the person to bring it to life
I remember going to the second to last show of heathers at Haymarket, and it was just magical; if you would have told me that you were ill while performing I would have laughed at it, because it was nowhere to be seen or heard. even though bootlegs are iffy I absolutely love that one, because it has the exact same energy that the show I went to had; I can still remember Lauren and some other members of the ensemble standing at the side of the stage singing along to dead girl walking reprise, or Jamie dancing in a corner of the stage at a point where JD wasn't present. thinking of the show still makes me cry of happiness, which says a lot considering how 2018 was the worst year of my life.
Ahahha, incase people don't have social media, there was a slight problem with overlapping clips ❤️
Very reflective, very deep, lovely :)
I would love to watch more, if you decide and like to do more of them. :)
Greetings from Germany
I remember i came to see it during the week of closing and i saw olivia as veronica, she was amazing!! however I wish i had seen you xx
Absolutely loved Carrie in this role, got goosebumps again watching this!
Y’all are gonna make my life suck, but I’ll be better for it.”
The other reason I fell in love with it is because it’s a distinctly 80’s sound as well.
*hehehm* "Veronica SAW-yer" and "Las vegas to BAWH-ston"
But back to you- despite the illness you still sounded AMAZING!! my favourite vocal moment HAS to be in dead girl walking reprise where you sing the "got no time to talk im a dead girl....WALKKKINNNNG" the way you drop the 'walking' down is STUNNING!! And I say no is amazing and you did great!! You also looked stunning, you were so good aahhhhh- As an aussie, i wish i could have seen this in person rather than via bootlegs :((
Thx for your time :)))
Absolutely loved it ❤️
I really need this song just now. Thank you
i say no is genuinely my favourite song of the heathers musical, and probably in my top 5 musical songs in general
I can confirm I was bawling my eyes out in the second row on that performance. Such an incredible show
Aah I was feeling sad yesterday and was binging Heathers to feel better. And then this turns up!
Carrie: I was sick
Me: wtf doesn't sound it at all!
I would LOVE to see you react to the other scenes from this bootleg! It's amazing to know what goes on behind the scene!
PS. oh my god i can't believe you went and fixed the audio issues to make it perfect!
The fact that you had TONSILLITIS and still sang as amazing as you always do. What a queen 🥳❤
"You need help I can't provide" hits me every fucking time haha
me tf too,
I would so pay to watch a recording of this show with Carrie in it
THERE IS A BOOTLEG
I can’t believe you were ill during this song, you sound incredible! I can’t even get out of bed when I have tonsillitis 😂
I watch this exact bootleg everytime and the woman in front likes to stand up alot 😂😂😂😂

more reactions to heathers peweeeese-SO GLAD I SAW THIS BL-just to get a chance to see the show after watching heathers vlogs. Well done Carrie!!!
I cried watching this. I came to watch the show in the final week at the Haymarket and it was phenomenal xx
Who came back after the Audio was fixed lol
the second to last i say no was SOOO powerful and amazing you ROCKED it Carrie
I’m so happy this video came out Carrie! Sending you love ❤️
i LOVE the unique choices that you made!! as an actor u gotta bring your own interpretation to the role thats what makes it so cool!!!! 😍🤩😍🤩😍
You were amazing in Heathers, I can’t wait to see you in Cinderella ❤️❤️❤️
Seeing you singing I say no live really makes me wish I could have seen you do it ❤️
The fact that she re-edited the video to fix the music shows commitment ♥️♥️♥️ we STAN
This was the veronica we needed... I needed!!!
