  • Ancient traditions intertwined with futuristic sounds: Smerz knows better than anyone how to effortlessly interweave the two. The Norwegian born Catharina Stoltenberg and Henriette Motzfeldt met in Copenhagen, where the music scene inspired them enormously. Their love for pounding techno could be heard on EP's Okey and Have Fun. On debut album Believer, the duo balances between icy electronics and fairytale opera. The duo drew this opera influence from classical composers such as Schubert. Motzfeldt, who used to sing in a children’s choir, even puts on her opera voice on one of the tracks. In addition to opera, the fairytale-like video clips feature ancient Norwegian traditions, such as the Halling dance and traditional clothing.
