Aside from the sick amp work/info.....is it just me or what: her voice is the most soothing thing going. I've replaced my "forest rain" MP3 with this channel to fall asleep at night
I really enjoy your videos, you are a very good technician. You are straight forward no nonsense without all of the talking just to hear yourself talk. Some of the other techs will spend 30minutes telling how to pull a tube because they are so in love with their own voice.
I had NO idea there were so many of these rare vintage amps ~ you certainly get many of them to show ... they are so interesting and your nimble fingers do a magnificent job fixing those intricate hard wired components... 😃
Wow Colleen! I love vintage amps, but my fingers would have burns on them from a repair like this. So many tight areas to work in. I didn't know they double stacked turret boards back then. Awesome job on this piece of history! ❤❤❤
Although I have zero aptitude, and likely no patience to work on amplifiers, I find these videos enjoyable and relaxing to watch. Your knowledge and attention to detail is excellent!
Old British motorcycles and Premier amps - if you REALLY want to know what it was like back in the day. I inherited a 120R. Masonite speaker baffle, kitchen shelf paper cabinet covering, and a bit of a rat's nest of wiring, '62 code Jensen alnico. I dabble in amp mods, and bias my own etc, but did not trust myself to do this one and sent it to Gerald Weber over a decade ago. It sounds similar to the one she has here. Lo-fi, not very loud before breaking up. Old school tones very different from today. I love mine because it was from a family member so it is, for me, priceless. They have gone up steadily in price over the years. It's a niche sound, not for everybody. But you WILL be transported back in time.
I could listen to your voice all day long. And wow- that amp sure sounds a lot better than I thought it would! I usually hate the tremolos- but that one sounds sweet and musical.
The Premier knobs are made of "Catalin", a variant of Bakelite (the world's 1st viable, moldable plastic-like material) designed to look like marble. Some extremely beautiful, collectible, and valuable ($1k or more) vintage radios were made of Catalin plastic.
When I saw Ry Cooder play a couple of years ago, his four-amp rig included a Premier 88 (also a small tweed Fender and two Standels!). He was also playing a Premier guitar, a semi hollow electric, which I never even knew existed, and which Ry said cost him 300 bucks on Reverb!
My father was the electronic engineer at WHPE Radio station. He spent his life working on old tube radios. Your video reminded me of my childhood. Our family house was full of old electronic parts.
What an old relic. So cool to see this brought back to life. Excellent work and detail. I subscribed immediately. I'm a hobby guitar and amp tech myself. Thrills me to witness this incredible opportunity.
Hello Ms Fazio, Today I stumbled accross your channel. Glad I did. It was so nice to see a young tech working with pride and attention to detail on this old technology. I'm also a fellow tech, started at 13, working as a professional for over 35 years. In tube electronics, vintage transistor stuff, and current highend audio nowadays. The only field I have little experience in is your field of expertise. Guitaramps... I have seen some shady work in my life, your channel and work(wo)manship is like a breath of fresh air. You clearly want to do the things the right way. I have a repairshop since 1997, and still learning new stuff every day. A remark: A ESR meter is a great tool when used on electrolitics. No so much on normal low value normal caps. I heard you mentioning using a esr meter to test the wax/paper caps in the tremelo circuit? Correct me please if i understood wrong. This is not the best way to go about things, and i'l explain why: A esr meter only uses a very small voltage to test a capacitor. The paper/wax capacitors may seem somewhat ok when they are tested with only a low voltage applied. But they do develope big dc leaks when tested under normal full load in the amp! Never leave those caps in a circuit. Always replace them if you want the amp to be reliable. Mr carlson, and xraytonyb have some very informative video's about this and other subjects. Uncle doug, also a great channel indeed. If you still want to test old capacitors, try to get hold of and old r/c capacitor testbridge. They test everthing under load, i also use one sometimes. Great stuff. I wish you great pleasure, and good luck, Best regards from the Netherlands, Nico den Haak.
I came here hoping to watch a new video. It turns out, there's only 4 I haven't watched. Dang Fazio, you are attention grabbing/informative/interesting...and apparently new to YT. Thanks for all the cool vids!
It always amazed me how much stuff gets changed over the years. If it’s put back original, bingo it works! Those had a wicked fast tremolo. Glad you slowed it down.
Uncle Doug is an amazing amp tech and teacher. I honestly couldn't say enough about him. He has opened my mind to understanding tube amplifiers and he has replied to every email I've sent him with detailed information and concern. Simply, the best of the best. I would also like to give a big nod to Terry at D-Lab. I subscribed to your channel after watching two videos. You have a great passion for your work and a wonderful way of sharing it. Thank you!!
Nice video. I used to trip over a Premier combo amp at a pawnshop all the time. Never purchased it, as I was hunting another amp. Should have purchased it.
Very beautiful amp, I just found your channel so I’m gonna binge watch all the repair videos just like I have with all the other amp repair channels like uncle Doug. Trying to teach my fiancé but she won’t pick it up would kinda make things easier having two sets of eyes on tricky troubleshooting finicky circuits.
Its an interesting sound - There are bass cabinets for PA use that use small triangular cabinets as compression chambers. That speaker cabinet is sort fo like that but I like the bass porting at the top which really extends the half-wave of the cabinet while maintaining a small footprint. Clever stuff! :o)
Old Premier amps are so cool. I have one and I love it because it's just so retro. It's a Premier Model 50. A smaller amp than the one you're working on here, all in one cabinet, no tremolo. But it sounds OK, has some buzz from old filter caps and it has noisy controls. I need to do a restoration on it one of these days. I used to run an electric instrument repair shop, and my favorite thing to work on was old tube guitar amps. I clicked right away on this because there are so few videos on Premier amps. Good thorough repair you did; the amp sounds great. Love your channel Electric Lady!
Ok its Official ! YOU ARE MY FAVORITE PERSON IN THE WORLD !! I cant even tell you how happy this makes me. I must be dreaming. Your work is exceptional.
I wish I was able to get you to work on my Marshall heads I bet you'd be able to make them sound really good they've been modified by my amp guy who passed away this year unfortunately I'm in New York though you're very cool and you're also gorgeous too I like seeing the projects you work on it definitely a very intelligent person and I enjoy watching your videos
Thoroughly enjoyed this one. It seems ridiculous to be amazed at how sounds made via ‘old’ circuits sound ‘old’, but I couldn’t help feeling that way. I really like your presentations. I know just enough about this type of tech stuff to follow along, but I get what you’re doing with your explanations. Looking forward to more videos.
That is a rad amp! Thanks for taking all the time to show us this. I especially appreciated the schematic shown alongside the gut shots. Very nice touch there.
Love your videos!!! Can you do one on your diagnostic and testing gear? I’d love to see your approach to testing caps as well as your use of the oscilloscope. Thanks again, stay safe!
That's a really cool amp love the catalin knobs people call it baker light but it's really catalin which is a very collectible form of plastic used to make alot of vintage jewelry there's a great selection of rare colors
Thanks for the tour! I have one the early 1950s (yours is the later version) in storage that hasn't been powered up since the 1970s and probably has all of the original parts in it. I'm looking forward to bringing it back into fighting shape. BTW, if you're looking for replacement cap cans, Hayseed Hamfest does custom units.
Girl, who are you, and what have your done with the young lady who should be inhabiting this body? No kidding, you are blessed with an "Old Soul", in young body. I found your videos by accident, and I like your work. I too am a big fan of Uncle Doug, and Terry, at D-Lab, and you have a similar style for explaining what you are doing. I subscribed right away, and look forward to watching many more of your videos. Keep up the great work.
FYI, in camera settings, look for "Pictures as Previewed" to avoid selfie camera stuff ending up mirrored (assuming you're Android; if iPhone you're on your own...). Love your work.
Aside from the sick amp work/info.....is it just me or what: her voice is the most soothing thing going.

Agree totally. I like Colleen to read me bedtime stories...

educational ASMR
her voice is so similar to mine ...
Very much so.
Thank you for tuning your guitar! Don’t laugh, I think you are the first UA-cam amp tech that actually tunes their guitar b4 a sound demo... Yay!
Another great job from an upstart tech! I recognize the nod to Uncle Doug and his cameo's with Rusty...RIP
Wow Colleen! I love vintage amps, but my fingers would have burns on them from a repair like this. So many tight areas to work in. I didn't know they double stacked turret boards back then. Awesome job on this piece of history! ❤❤❤
I love how obvious it is that you really care about the work you do and the equipment you work on. Awesome nerd work.
Although I have zero aptitude, and likely no patience to work on amplifiers, I find these videos enjoyable and relaxing to watch. Your knowledge and attention to detail is excellent!
I don’t know why your videos first popped up in my recommendations, but I’m glad they did. Very cool content
Same here… and I'm diggin' it. Good stuff!

UA-cam recommendations did a good job this time! Love these videos :) So cool to see old amps getting the service they deserve.

Your videos are awesome. Such a calm confident voice and great knowledge and skills. Look forward to seeing more from you.
Glad to see someone keeping the old skills alive.
Total respect!
Warm greetings from Electric Lady Guitars Devon UK
Dream job. Working on vintage amps with point to point wiring.
I could listen to your voice all day long. And wow- that amp sure sounds a lot better than I thought it would! I usually hate the tremolos- but that one sounds sweet and musical.
And now it sounds as good as it looks! Those knobs are amazing. I love the color combination with the tortoise tremolo knobs.

Wow! Her voice, patience, knowledge, and no-makeup-needed w/slight cleft chin face . . . 😍, I’m ded!
Very nice work Colleen. You are my new amp tech hero.
This is a great project, but you really got to love those Bakelite knobs.
Congrats, up to all expectations, superb workmanship, keep the good work
What a great piece of history!
Thanks so much for sharing this with us! 😃

What a gem! Great job on the resto, I'm really enjoying your work on this fine amps.
Man, I LOVE watching your work. Clean and thorough.
UA-cam algorithm dragged me here. Experienced hobby amp repair guy and love your work here!
My father was the electronic engineer at WHPE Radio station. He spent his life working on old tube radios. Your video reminded me of my childhood. Our family house was full of old electronic parts.
Great work and video production. The chihuahua is super sweet....🐶🥰🥰
So happy your channel was placed in my path by happy logarithms guided you to my attention.
Wonderful amplifier! Imagine the history…
👍 Now I know the meaning of Electric Lady Land
I am glad to see you are still using your Simpson 260 analog meter!
Beautiful soldering! I like your straightforward approach.
❤ the amp, ❤ the tech, ❤the whole thing

Sometimes if the old cap is large enough I'll clean it out and mount the new ones inside of it
As a student of the late, great Ken Fischer... I'm very intrigued by Ms. Fazio here. 🤔

Nice video.

Tremolo sounds fantastic.

I love these videos, but I also wish that whoever performs bad repairs would document their hilarious thought process.
Great job troubleshooting that trem. Damn, for a sec I thought you might sing something in the mic channel. That would have been rad. Lol
Cool amp 😀👍
Love your videos
