Rank Video Services America tape duplication signal[?] ("White Screen of Death")

This video demonstrates, in a fairly poor fashion, how RVSA would signal if a tape was finished duplicating and was ready for splicing. Multiple companies had their own solutions and this was Rank's.
Despite it being called the "White Screen of Death", that title doesn't make much sense but I digress.
Captured this off of the end of the tape of Charlotte's Web I have from 1993. I don't own any content in this video.

It's called the "White Screen of Death" because it comes on like a jumpscare, therefore startling unsuspecting viewers. I've been obsessed with learning about it since I was 8-9 years old and I have yet to see it in person.

I’ve seen it on an Allegra’s Window tape I have, although it was made by Paramount. As a kid it was kind of eerie and unexpected to see for the first time.

I used to work for Rank Video Services America back in ‘94. Chicago suburbs. There’s a good chance I handled your tapes.

@@seanmichaels9953 it was horrible. Reminiscent of a Soviet-era production factory; grey, monotonous and soul crushing. My coworkers were the uneducated dregs of the greater Chicago area. In the end I simply stopped showing up. I’m sure the operation didn’t miss a beat

@@seanmichaels9953 i don’t know. I wasn’t involved in the technical aspects of videotape duplication. I was a drone. A cog in a wheel. Mindlessly changing spools at the scheduled interval. I’m just glad I escaped. It’s horrifying to think some of my coworkers probably worked there for decades after i left; one day indistinguishable from the next
