Batch 23C was one of my favorite pours of 2023! If you have a hard time finding Stagg at less than $200, this gives the rest of us no chance at all 😆. Thanks for the video!
Acquired this bottle at BevMo in Northern California for $70 and thought someone at the store made a big mistake. The first Stagg I was able to acquire/afford in my bourbon journey. Drank it in conjunction with Larceny Barrel Proof that I acquired for same price. I preferred Stagg 23c over Larceny C923. If you’re in Santa Rosa, CA visit the Beer Baron Bar for allocated and high year bottles to try like Stagg. Thanks Matt for the education and entertainment. Keep up good work.
So, if you were going to finish a Stagg (Jr), what would you do to make it more complex and a better pour? That little "second gear"? Port-finish? Cab-finish? Honey-finish? Sauternes? I'd be afraid to double oak because that could add just bitterness.
Absolutely terrible when first cracked for me too. Zero aromatics. Vague and unbalanced on the palate with an astringency on the finish. 2nd pour was a bit better. Going to let it sit for a couple of weeks and hope it opens up. First Stagg purchase I've bought since they dropped the Jr and it's pretty disappointing at the moment
Hey Matt. I’m with you. I overpaid for 23b and 23c…due to the hype. I am 100% on board with your review. It’s good, not great. I won’t buy another bottle, too many other complex bourbons in that price range .
Drank 3/4 of my 23c in 3 weeks. Grabbed a 22a both $200. I prefer 23c. My 1st Staggs maybe my last at secondary lol. Love it though. It's like a cherry cola syrup bomb. Few drops of water 😉. Scored a michter's barrel strength rye this week $53 due to an error on posted price. They still gave it to me. Such a perfect whiskey. Went full tater & bought Blantons gold for my anniversary next month $219 & 3 store picks from keg n bottle. I've been fighting the hype on everything for years. After recent Eagle rare with age statement & 23c. I went crazy & probably spent 1500 in March 😅😅 don't tell my wife 😅🥃.
As someone that never gets the chance to buy Stagg locally they are all releases to want for me. Great video Matt and very insightful. Hope you are doing great.
Thanks for the video I always enjoy your take. 23c is the only batch I have been able to get a hold of, but it’s been amazing for me. Cheers 🥃 Kung Pow beef for the win!!
Just got a 23B at retail the other, and was not impressed. I've heard it needs to open up for a few weeks before it becomes good. Any thoughts on this?
Stagg was one of those bottles that opened a door for me so I say this from a place of love, there’s really only two batches the fruity candy one, and then the brown sugar Carmel one. That’s it. If you’re not into the skittles like pinch of batch 15, just know 16 will be your jam.
100% Matt. I Paid $75 for a bottle last year. That was almost overpaying for this juice. I just don’t understand the appeal. It’s a good bottle with no complexity whatsoever. Same as most BT juice.
Kung pao is where it’s at, but General Tso ain’t bad either. Stagg is an incredible pour when you find it under >$100. Over that, and I often pass for the reasons you provided.
I agree with you they are basically all the same you know what you're getting..once you've had two you've had them all... Extra spicy orange chicken is the way to go for me.😃
I got one for $150. It lasted less then week on my shelf once my boubon buddies found out l had it. I too thought it was very good, not great. If l see it for $150 again l'll buy it.
I tasted a sample of 22b and I was able to purchase a 23b for $65 which I haven't tasted yet. The 22b was excellent so I hope the 23b comes in better than your description of the 23c lol!
i wasnt impressed with this batch of stagg. i tried it with my 22a and the 22a crushed it. so i ended up trading one of the 23c bottles i had for weller 107. im happy i paid retail on it
I have a hook up at a place that I will never tell anybody that I can get it for $55 a bottle at least a couple times a year. Do I get it every time no but I will never pay that much for any stag Junior ever but I understand why you would if you can't ever find it love her videos, bro keep it up
Had the same experience with the 23C, way too hot with no outstanding flavor. Had a chance to buy the 23C and two bottles of Traveler whiskey for $140 at my cigar bar and passed after having a pour of the Stagg. I’d give it a 7. Glad I tried it first. Plus who the hell wants 2 bottles of Traveler!!
I would never pay $200 for any bottle of bourbon. That said, I love the Stagg 22A I have. One of the best $55 dollar bottles. If you overpay, it's on you.
Most I’ve ever paid for a Stagg (Jr) was 100 🦌 all others since have been msrp. That being said I’ve yet to have one that justifies paying anything over msrp. My experience with Stagg is proof, proof, proof and that’s it. No depth, no complexity, just proof and for me that’s nothing remarkable. The Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof bourbon and rye offerings bring so much more to the table and are a lot easier to find.
Everything is opinion based so I won't say you're wrong. But I'd take any stagg batch 12 out of 10 times for any jd single or rye. You're opinion is valid but to say that stagg doesn't have depth makes me think you mix it with coke😂
There are only x number of each bottle of bourbon available, you paying more (above retail), doesn’t increase this number. If everyone paid retail, then no store would try to get more than retail, the secondary market would disappear, everyone would be happy. Why are people greedy?
Won a bottle (23c) in a raffle and paid $57...so when I saw another on a shelf for $200, I was happy to pay $257 for two bottles last year. #totallyworthit
The score doesn’t match the review and definitely doesn’t match how bad this batch is. I did a blind of 23A, 23B and 23C and 23C was my least favorite. It has such an off-putting taste. You said chalk, I thought it was black sharpie markers. 23A was great, 23B was good, 23C was terrible. 22B better than all of them though.
Batch 23C was one of my favorite pours of 2023! If you have a hard time finding Stagg at less than $200, this gives the rest of us no chance at all 😆. Thanks for the video!
It rains Stagg in AZ. I have 30 bottles
@@drinks4days I need some of that rain here 🤣
Grabbed one yesterday for one C-note. Excited to crack it!

Man.. thats awesome

The best thing I did for my 23C was add a couple drops of water to the glass and let it sit before drinking
My favorite Stagg is batch 18. Szechaun chicken is my go to.
I hated this batch when I first opened it but once it opened up it became one of my favorites, slightly behind 22A for me. Cheers

I just got one at a local grocery store here in Arizona for$54 and a week later got another one
was lucky enough to find 2 of these AT MSRP

Great video. I’ve only had Stagg batch 18, and I’m still waiting for a pour in which the proof doesn’t overpower the flavor (65.5% alc.).
Thanks for the video I always enjoy your take. 23c is the only batch I have been able to get a hold of, but it’s been amazing for me. Cheers 🥃
Kung Pow beef for the win!!
For the first time ever, I was able to get this one for MSRP, but had to spend a TON of time hunting it down! Well worth the hunt though!
I love my batch 23C! It hits all the right notes. My favorite Chinese would be General Cho's Chicken.
Matt how’s the weight loss going? You still killing it? Haven’t seen you talk about it lately so I was just wondering. Keep it up man!
Got one for 70 bucks on the shelf. love it
Just got a 23B at retail the other, and was not impressed. I've heard it needs to open up for a few weeks before it becomes good. Any thoughts on this?
Hit nail right on the head. Thankfully I purchased mine at MSRP, or I would have been even more disappointed lol

I could watch videos of this guy all damn day. lol
Cheers Matty!!
always love all the reviews. keep it up. cheers
Thanks for saving me $200. One store has Stagg Jr for $180 before tax. My Chinese food dish is the classic roast pork lo mein.
100% Matt. I Paid $75 for a bottle last year. That was almost overpaying for this juice. I just don’t understand the appeal. It’s a good bottle with no complexity whatsoever. Same as most BT juice.
Got mine for $60 in IL. Saw it today in TN for $200. Waiting for 24A. 🥃
I can only dream of finding a bottle of Stagg…guess I’ll have to suffer with a Larceny Barrel Proof, ECBP or JD BP
No suffering on that Larceny BP! That's delicious!
I have 23a and I think it’s pretty damn good.
Of the 22 and 23 batches which are your top 2
Where on the bottle do you find the batch number?
Can you say the same thing about (similar profiles) Bookers releases?
Kung pao is where it’s at, but General Tso ain’t bad either.
Stagg is an incredible pour when you find it under >$100. Over that, and I often pass for the reasons you provided.
I bought one of these for $120 and another for $100 but had to buy a store pick also. Very sweet, good just not exceptional.
Just regular old pork fried rice. But I cant find a good one where I live right now.
now there's an idea for a tee from Into the AM... sidewalk chalk drawings on a tongue
I tasted a sample of 22b and I was able to purchase a 23b for $65 which I haven't tasted yet. The 22b was excellent so I hope the 23b comes in better than your description of the 23c lol!
22b is the only Stagg I’ve had and it’s one of my top 5 bourbons of all time. So good. Would be curious to know what you think of 23b.
I have picked up 3 bottles of 23c in the last two months. All under $100
I got some Stagg 22b at retail recently, by some miracle. For $60 it is incredible.
i wasnt impressed with this batch of stagg. i tried it with my 22a and the 22a crushed it. so i ended up trading one of the 23c bottles i had for weller 107. im happy i paid retail on it
My Local Asian Buffet has jimmy dean breakfast sausage. Right next to the fried rice!!! Guess what..
I have a hook up at a place that I will never tell anybody that I can get it for $55 a bottle at least a couple times a year. Do I get it every time no but I will never pay that much for any stag Junior ever but I understand why you would if you can't ever find it love her videos, bro keep it up
It's good. I would still say 22A is better. 🥃
I got mine for $60 thanks to a very kind grocery store employee 😊
What is your top 5 Stagg ever?
General Tso Chicken is the best! So are you Matt!

Hardcore agree with tasting way above its proof. Well done ya sonofabatch
Baby got back.....hair......u sick bztrd....love it!
Do you really want a remix?
This doesn’t count as 1 oz Wednesday
Pretty close to girl math my friend. But damn, do I agree with you.
I've had 3 over the years and found every one very hot. Luckily I only paid retail.
Do you typically drink cask strength whiskey?
Most I’ve ever paid for a Stagg (Jr) was 100 🦌 all others since have been msrp. That being said I’ve yet to have one that justifies paying anything over msrp. I paid 200 for it and i'd do it again.

Snagged on secondary for 160 delivered to my house.
Moo Goo Gai Pan

Firecracker shrimp!
I got a 23b yesterday as a surprise for 80 bucks thanks to a friendly grocery store.
That face was a-twitching.
Salt and Pepper tofu. Everything else is just truck nuts.
There last couple of batches have been VERY overwhelming. Down right disappointing
Lemon chicken…
Like a good FOMO Tater, I paid $240 for mine...
Ouch. But if it’s worth it to you then it’s worth it. 👍

Stagg at $200 is still better than many other LE’s released at that price.
Not worth it, $60 ? Sure I will get it 👍💯😉
Tired of spending $$$ on bottles like this that shouldn’t be!
i thought my wife gave birth to a wookie
Matt graduated Cum Laude? Congratulations. Unfortunately I was only able to graduate Cum Rarely.
Chicken Lo Mein

I just hit 666 likes isthat a bad omen😮
For $50 it’s an excellent pour 👌🏻
🇺🇸🥃
Diddy loves some Stagg.
