He’s spot on. It’s a pile on atm and I’m not a Cornes fan by any measure. He has his opinions and I disagree with half to most but he has his opinions and that’s okay. How this has turned on him is stupid
Spot on. He's like his Dad. Creating opinions. Much of it is BS, but you gotta have something better to do that make KC the news.
He also plays the media game like he played footy: getting-under-the-skin tagger and making up for lack of pure talent by being relentless and ruthless.

Same here. I'm sick of AFL media being a scripted boring repetitive circus. Kane seems to just call things left of field as he sees it without giving a stuff. I appreciate that

I don't think Cornes gets it right all the time but he often calls something out well before anyone else catches on. I think there's some professional jealousy happening here. Yeah, he has an opinion on a lot of things, but that's his job. I think he's right when he says that people deriving opinions about his opinion is lazy journalism and happens way too often.
The person responsible for the current perilous state of the AFL media is sitting right there on the panel. Hutchy’s ownership of most footy media, and his desire for style/scandal over substance, is why we are here.

Kane Cornes is a legend, I enjoy many of his takes. He is a bold pundit and very expressive, even if he goes too far at times he's entertaining af. you can't have one without the other
I'm with you. Even when i disagree with him, i know he's given it his honest opinion, which is not sanitized. He's not afraid to go against the grain and we need that in the media.
I’ll be honest, I only agree with Kane maybe half the time, but I always *respect* his opinions. He absolutely moves with integrity, regardless of what Dimma or any condescending media figures say
We live in a time where people get offended if someone else has an opinion that doesn’t agree with their own. Kane had a valid opinion regardless of whether others agreed with it. He wasn’t claiming facts that were verifiable untrue, it was clearly an opinion.
But people like marty and dale are on podcasts they arent writing articles they heard an opinion and are talking about it. Obviously thinking its ludicrous. Whats wrong with that. Its been happening for years. I can understand someone writing basically what you have in a column somewhere but people just chatting about what a big name journo has said is happening every other week.
150 was a bit much. I would have Taranto in the 80-100 range, but everything else Cornes has said about those trades is right.
If he's not in the best 8 at Richmond, considering where they sit on the ladder, Cornes is close to the mark.

Sounds like a bit of tall poppy to me. Cornes is one of the absolute best in AFL media. Head & shoulders above the likes of Daisy or Robbo.
He's a gutsy man who will speak what he sees as truth no matter what. I don't always agree with him but he's an excellent footy brain.

I honestly believe Kane when he says he doesn’t say things just to get a reaction. I don’t agree with a lot of his opinions, and sometimes they’re pretty left-field, but I honestly think he believes in everything he says and is a man of integrity.
Edit: I realise this sounds so sarcastic but it genuinely isn’t.
I’m not a Cornes fan at all, and he might even be slightly delusional, but he always backs his opinions in detail. Taranto was ranked 120 in champion data (not the best source I know) and in his own personal opinion he shouldn’t be too 150, only 30 places lower than his ACTUAL ranking. He’s averaging about 55-60% disposal efficient and Kanes point is that he doesn’t hurt you and while he accumulates the ball, he turns I let over a lot. It’s not that big of a deal. I agree that everyone should be entitled to their own opinion
I'm a crows fan and I feel most of his takes are around the mark. I appreciated he has been one of only two or three people from the Adelaide footy media who have called out how poorly the crows have been managed (and at times coached) over the past 3 years.
Brilliantly done by dimma now the attention is off Richmond and all of it is on Kane and the media are piling on him

Cornes is a commentator and an ex player thats entitled to his opinion, and he’s an actual blue collar journalist compared to Dale Thomas and all these other overnight personalities.
I think the only thing Cornes needs to accept is that strong opinions will have strong criticisms- you cant have your cake and eat it too

I agree that the two players that Richmond brought in was not the right choice for their current playing group. Not personal prejudice against the two it could have been any high class midfielder. It's the fact that Richmond can't sustain these trades in the future, they are not pushing for finals

If you’re Tim Taranto you’re probably sitting there thinking top 10-15% is not bad but I’m a top tier player in the AFL and I’m gonna work just that much harder to elevate my game and get my numbers up so this time next year people are talking about me as one of the premier midfielders in the competition. Which is what he was recruited to be for Richmond.

What would you rank Taranto at the Tigers? Top 6? If he was at any other club, would he be in the top 6?
If not, if he was an average 7th best at every club, he’d be ranked 109 or higher so Kane’s comments would stand.
Top 6 x 18 clubs would be the top 108 players.
Maybe he would be top 6 at some clubs, but might not be top 8-10 at others.
Hes an interesting man Kane and very outspoken, but interesting guy and a knowledgeable guy. However not about this as Taranto has hit some pretty good form

Good on him defending himself and not a fan of his. But his clip at Dale Thomas is uncalled for.
What Kane is saying is he should be allowed to criticise all and sundry in the AFL landscape but no one is allowed to criticise him. That’s having “an opinion on an opinion”. Everyone should be held to account for any professional role they undertake irrespective of the role. Media require more accountability and scrutiny not less.
Kane is good for the media.
Taranto's amongst the best at Richmond, so if he's not in the top 150 it doesn't say much for the Tiges.

Kane isn't bad with his takes, sometimes off the mark, but usually produces some nice nuggets.
But he's a terrible arguer. A dirty twisty nasty type who argues for the win as opposed to finding common ground or objectivity. It smacks of an extremely competitive lifestyle that began in early childhood... so I can hardly blame him really. I just hope he's matured enough to be more constructive in his personal life.

Look i understand people are fine to have their opinions however the reality is he often puts people down unless they play for his club, When it comes to port power he is far to one sided. The thing that annoys most people is how Kane tends to forget he also played football and he should understand that mud sticks. As far as Tim Toranto goes as a Richmond supporter i can't stand here and get to upset because even though Tim gets his hands on the pill his ability to hit a target has been well under a top tier players ability. And another thing comments like Kane's comments have a tendency to modivate as apposed to ruin players so Dimma should take a chill pill and focus on his own faults and how to get more out of his player's instead of projecting on to Kane. I'm no Corns fan by any means however he is a shock jock and that's what they do. And what he said about Slobbo was also spot on some of these so called journos need to do some real work instead of copy and pasting other stories.
Kane isn’t as bad now at all that he’s got a career for himself. But he 100% made a name by saying ridiculous things and was a shock jock. Skip Bayless was his idol, that says it all honestly.
Cornes has a point. He gets alot of junk possessions but there a a few players out there that are the same.. its. More noticeable when your teams loosing . Toranto good for dream team.

Daisy works well on Triple M's style of not particularly serious footy discussion. He'd flounder anywhere else. Being a Collingwood premiership hero gets you pretty far in this town.
Kane focusses on the negative too much...that is the issue here
don't reckon highlighting weaknesses makes the game stronger (in fact all research data shows focussing on negatives brings organisations down)

there isn't 7 players on every team that are better than taranto, there just isn't. He struggled with his ball distribution early but at the same time the media doesn't seem to care about disposal efficiency since Bont got 10 coaches votes, 3 predicted brownlow votes and praise all around for a game where he kicked 0 goals and had 28 disposals, 15 of those disposals were turnovers. If kane thinks bont is a top 5 player I have no idea why he doesn't think taranto is at least top 50.
This is comiing from a collingwood fan, the only players I wouldn't swap for taranto are Degoey, moor, maynard and the daicos'

If Kane thinks there are 150 players in the comp better then Taranto why doesn't he just make the list of 150 players who are better then him. How about actually backing up what you say Kane instead of just throwing out a blanket statement like that, and then just beating around it. If you don't want people going after you claiming you just want to generate shock then actually back up what you say. Certainly a list would be far more insightful. If he thinks champion data is wrong to put him at 120 then explain why it could be wrong. Thats where the real value is not some throw away comment.
He has explained why he believe its wrong and btw Champion Data isn't and never has been the most credible source for rating players or teams. The purpose of it is to showcase the base and advanced analytics of a player and team. It is the exact same as Basketball Reference for example if you follow the NBA. The problem is its ends up been used as a primary source for analysis to the point where it is just automatically deemed as indisputable fact nowadays.

in what universe is being equal 24th on score involvements not impacting games kane. we’re the 4th worst scoring team this year too. imagine we were the best scoring team like last year. he’d probs be 1st. we all make mistakes. admit this was one because claiming richmond’s best player is worse than roughly 10.5 players from every other club is ridiculous.
