man.. when i was 13 I had this old dude as my guitar teach, he was so cool.. and i asked him to teach me the blues like SRV, and one class i went in and he taught me how to solo on the pentatonic scale and when i started to do it he was like "yeah kid you got it!" And he was super happy for me man and I'll never forget it cause after that class he got sick and passed away and it honestly bums me out man.. he was someone i wanted to make proud you know, still working to make him proud I think about him everytime I grab my guitar.. but your lessons keep me motivated Bro and im practicing my 3NPS scales in major and minor and just learning that has taught me so much already, thanks for the great videos man I've deffinetly got a long road ahead of me haha

If anyone has doubts, just try it out, do it for about 15 minutes, then play something that you would usually play, enough said.

I actually didn't know about a lot of these, as a basement guitarist with not having a teacher for a long time this is great to know

Reminds me of my teacher telling me when I was 14 "if you don't play this, you will never be able to play Metallica"

@James Brabham: Yeah, like you're able to play the downstrokes-only rhythm guitar of "Master of Puppets" with no efford and practice at all :D

The first exercise is similar to John Petrucci's from his Rock Discipline DVD. It's very helpful for stretching your fingers. :)

Agreed. Also Joe Satriani uses this exercise to warm up

Well that and the Steve vai reference make sense. Especially since this dude, Steve vai, and john petrucci all went to berklee, and Joe Santriani taught Steve Vai. Hmmm...

The petrucci exercise your on about sounds bad but it's a left hand exercise not a song

Could you please make a video about those excercises you consider unnecesary and a waste of time?

It would probably be a better use of your time if you practiced exercises using scale patterns. Something you will actually use whole playing music

Kinda funny how i've seen these on Steve vai's 10 hour workout :P!

For the "Spider exercise," aka the stacked power chords, I just repetitively play "Message in a Bottle" by The Police....I find it fun to play a song rather than practice...I'm sure you all agree

Thank you for the great video! Learning on your own is difficult, these exercises do help with my dexterity.

Hmm. for finger stretching exercises I take the song 'Porcelain heart' by Opeth, play the acoustic melody during the first verse and move it around the fretboard. It still sounds musical.

Although a lot of people hate these exercises, I actually enjoy them because I realise how much I can improve and/or make things easier by doing them. I feel like I'm improving when I do these exercises, especially with speed bursts

Thank's, I'm always kinda lost with exercises, not really knowing what to play. By the way that beat you use for the metronome sounds like a midget hitting his balls inside the back of my head, it's weird dude wtf. Did you get that first one from John Petrucci's video?

Dear Tyler! ("Good Morning, good afternoon or good evening! Wherever you may be!") Something bothers me about this opening. Isn't it kind of way more effective to say "whenever you may be"? Would also be a a cool doctor who reference :p
