  • The crowds were unavoidable today, but one measure to take is to consistently pick the Complimentary path instead of the regular one. Crowds: gone.
And it’s more beautiful and rural, too. So what if it’s a bit longer?
Getting awfully close to Santiago now, the Camino is winding down…
So come walk along with me…

That green tunnel canopy is neat. It was interesting to see the Camino tourists. A much different version of the Camino from what we've see in your videos up to this point.

yes, I was able to avoid them mostly, but they eventually catch up with you (or you with them).

@@storiestellr it is scary. A swarm of tourists chattering and selfieing hot on your heels or if you escape you reach the next set of tourists. This is building up your tolerance for the masses in Santiago.

I'm not walking this camino but I can feel the excitement (and slight dread) that Santiago is nearing radiating from this video. Btw, did you ever pick up your written journals? I just rewatched your intro and the daily journal you showed is very inspiring!

thank you I’m always glad to read when my videos are able to transport what the internal dialogue on a Camino is.
I started a written journal again on this Camino, but had to give up pretty quickly because I would just not get any sleep anymore whatsoever 😂 - I just tried to make the videos my journals, and I think it kind of works.

@@storiestellr It certainly works! And nothing is important enough to miss sleep over in my opinion 😉

What is it about cows that fascinates you? Perhaps it’s their quiet serenity. You wonder do they ask themselves “where are all these people going, why do they rush?

yes, the way they just ‘are’ - just standing there, being, looking at us with some interest and maybe some bewilderment… to me it seems like they have things figured out that we’re trying hard to figure out ourselves 🐄

True, those Camino crowds do catch you in the end. Buen turismo! Most individuals probably are nice people, and they just want a bit of “fun” (whatever this means) on the Camino, or are looking for what we (the distance pilgrims) have already found. We were lucky enough to experience a Camino to ourselves … even own the world for a moment (can’t beat that feeling).
Being caught in the crowds is super tough.
I’ve seen pilgrims walking with headphones and tucked into their smartphones … even wondered, if they were watching a movie while walking. Asked myself whether they were just bored or whether that was their way to escape and cope with the crowds around them.
The crowds in Santiago overwhelmed me completely … and the pilgrims mass was so overcrowded that I had to leave mid service. I felt I could not breathe anymore, surrounded by all those people in close proximity. Cannot handle crowds well.
So, you can count yourself lucky to have found this alternative path through this lovely Galician landscape. Buen Camino 😊

yes, great observations, thank you Kater! hard to avoid the crowds altogether, and also: i suppose dragging with it is part of it. it’s a price to pay. in a way. but… yeah it’s not an easy price to pay.
