I was told that the water impeller should be shut down as well as the filter. The still water makes it easier to inject the fluid into the aiptasia. Thanks for the video.

The thing with kalkwasser is it raises ur ph quickely if not careful. U have no worries with the vinegar.

I've been using Kalk for 7 years in very small doses and I've never had a ph issue. The vinegar works too both are good ways to attack the problem. Thanks for the video Idea and all the comments.

The first time I added peppermint shrimp I added 2 with no luck. Next time I added 6 and two days later I had no aptaisa. And thanks for the call out. The n in my name has an ñ making it sound like there is a y in my name. Good luck getting rid of that pest

I used lemon juice. It killed them instantly and worked good on the tiny ones.

I like the idea. I've heard with these guys the hard part is getting them to eat fish food. I'm going to do a bit more research and I'll definatly keep this in mind. thanks for the comment and the sub!

you'll have know trouble getting the klein to eat mine eats anything ya put in the tank.At one point i was going to get a copperband butterflyfish but did a bit of research and found out that they tend to be finicky to feed.

I am not sure that temperature increase in heated vinegar is what helps to kill the aiptasia. I am thinking that heating the vinegar drives out some of the h20 and increases the normal acidity, thus making it more effective.

I had a couple in my biocube and used heated ro water to blast them with a syringe. Never seen them again after one squirt

all 4 of my pep shrimp ate the aiptasia, you may have gotten a camel shrimp which look similar when young but do not eat anemone. Peppermint shrimp do not exclusively eat aiptasia they eat anemone and small ones at that so aiptasia naturally fit that bill

I asked if they are a problem and everyone said NO so I dont want to kill an animal just because they grow. I only had a few and they didnt take over the tank. I would move my coral or the Aiptasia if I felt it would be a problem. I feed them by hand and my guest enjoy watching them take the food. You can see the food inside them. I have fun with them.

That's fine if you don't want any other corals, they will sting and kill things nearby, but a proper reef aquarium is best without these pests and if you like seeing them eat, research and get a larger anemone species to see them feed. Maybe eventually get clownfish to observe the relationship between the two. Just be sure to research RESEARCH before any purchases to save their lives, and your wallet. Also follow advice on forums like reef central and reef 2 reef. Learn from our mistakes...

Hey man, good video. Can i just ask what you could recommend to destroy the small aiptasias from sand. I tried Aiptasia X and tried cleaning them with a net but they somehow come back in multiple quantities. Injection is so difficult as they are really small. Check out my latest videos and you will see what i am talking about. I have a peppermint shrimp and raccoon butterfly that seems to be doing nothing to help. I dont even know if peppermint is alive tbh as i never see him...

Raso Ras I would buy as may peppermint shrimp as you think your tank can handle. 6 has worked well for me in the past. more shrimp will mean more competition for food and increase the odds the shrimp will go after the aiptasia. I would also keep injecting the Aipitasia X. You may never get them all but they can be kept under control.

Kalkwasser is def not suppose to be in ur main display at all especially a watery paste. vinegar is an all natural solution maybe if u get a smaller syringe with a thinner needle it be easier for I have 100% effect with this. Also turn pumps off and maybe just better aim lol.

You can use concentrated lemon juice. Use little bit every couple days. Keep track of ph level

Vinegar does not work well. You have to boil the water that you mix your kalk with also to get super result.

I'm seeing that it all kind of works to varying degrees, but I was able to kill aiptasia with vinegar. Thanks for the comment I cant wait to see your new tank.

how are any of you on the web, and haven't heard of using a burning laser? it is by far, the last thing you'll buy to combat a variety of tank woes. you can buy them on ebay for as little as $25. i'm not sure about the 4.2 volt version. but my 4.8 version nukes anything within seconds. and yes, it will kill off just about anything. mine came with an extra set of batteries, charger, case, adaptors and safety glasses for $50.

With all the new ways to control aptasia, what is your current methid of control?

    • @MileHighReefers
      @MileHighReefers  7 років тому +2

I've been using Aptasia X. I eradicated them from my tank a few years ago, but accidently reintroduced them and let them get out of control. Now I'm battling them again I'm leaning towards an army of peppermint shrimp.
