In their recap episode, they explain that it was a top movie for 7 weeks, actually increasing attendance due to word of mouth. That never happens today or even the past decade. All movies are front-loaded on opening weekend and almost never get more screens, let alone audience. The only exception might be the _Napoleon_ movie which had one auditorium opening weekend but nearly sold out and went to two screens the next weekend at my favorite theater which had 16 auditoriums. But that was a local snafu; I don't think it sold more tickets nationwide the second weekend.
Maybe bad editing, bad directing, or bad acting to not convey their feelings. I remember the line "Why do you always make me feel like Jane in a Tarzan comic?" He beats his chest "UH - UH."
12:36 "There is absolutely no chemistry between this man and this woman, I never believed in ay attraction between these 2" , AND THEY WERE MARRIED, IN REAL LIFE, FOR 24 YEARS 😅😅😅😅😅
I have been looking for their original Crocodile Dundee review for forever not the usual one where they analyze why it became so popular. They were alone on a deserted island on that one the second highest grossing film of 1986. Not a perfect film but come on guys it was fun and that is exactly what we go to the movies for and Ebert said it at the end.... I think a lot of people will like it... And right it was because it became a monster hit.
Cage is such a talented actor he was able to deliver a great performance in spite of a terrible vocal choice. It would have been a better film if he just played it straight.
Amazing that Peggy Sue Got Married is Kathleen Turner's only Oscar nomination. I would have voted for her that year. It's a fantastic performance! I love that movie! (:
The Name of the Rose (NR) is a masterpiece. And Crocodile Dundee is a joyous film that for once has the woman chasing (literally) the man she wants. There's another upload clip of S&E revising their criticism of Crocodile in light of its huge popularity. Too bad they didn't rethink there BS review of NR. And as Rob said, Ebert's totally wrong about Paul and Linda's chemistry. They fell in love and were married for years. And F Murray Abraham is not the Grand Inquisitor in NR! And it's in question whether the deaths in the monastery are all murders! FFS!
I agree with the sentiment about their review of Name of the Rose, really one of the highest quality movies I've seen in every respect. With Crocodile Dundee tho I agree somewhat with their review, in the aspect of there being little chemistry between the two leads. The premise is predictable but lovable but I always found the chemistry detracted from it.
Peggy Sue is so good. As a kid I just ignored it because I loved Back to the Future so much. But then in like 2004 I was flipping channels and saw the part when she answers the phone and its her grandmother and I started tearing up. Then it cut to a commercial and was like "We will be back with more Movies for Women who Love Movies on TBS" and I felt kind of insulted lol
Name Of The Rose is such a good film a masterpiece. And that awesome music score is by the late great James Horner(Titanic/Avatar/ Apollo 13/ Star Trek 2&3/ Aliens/ Willow/ 48Hrs.)
Peggy Sue GM is one of those movies they thought was really good but didn't hold up over time. Now, it's only 6.4/10 stars on imdb. Generally, anything under 8/10 stars on imdb isn't worth watching.
boy did they get Crocodile Dundee wrong. It turned out o be a very good movie and the couple really had a ton of chemistry that they hooked up and had a real life romance!
Can’t help but love the movie Crocodile Dundee.

@sandal_thong8631 Godzilla Minus 1 had a great run do to word of mouth. Fantastic movie.
Ebert was wrong, Paul Hogan was married to Linda Kozlowski for years.

Lots of average films do great at the box office. I liked Crocodile Dundee alright but it's certainly far from anything approaching great.
One of handful of movies of the year (1988) I thought worth seeing more than once.
Ebert straight up dissed Siskle’s lack of hair. Cold hearted!
yeah that was awkward afterwards.
Cage is such a talented actor he was able to deliver a great performance in spite of a terrible vocal choice. It would have been a better film if he just played it straight.
agreed
Cage was hilarious even though I didn't care for the film much.
I love how Siskel refers to “Crossroads” as a movie about “jazz”.

I like how Ebert returns to his bald joke and makes it into him being fat, so Gene doesn’t get it wrong. That’s class
....and then he adds "but at least he still has hair." 😂 Savage af!
Ernie and Bert.
Peggy Sue got married is pretty good.

I too like the 'Name of the Rose'. The film cannot be as good as the novel, I agree..

Too bad Peggy was a whore and Charlie cheated on her
Alot of people might not remember that Nicolas Cage uncle is director Francis Ford Coppola You wouldn't know it from this performance
Haven’t seen Peggy Sue yet. Sounds good-hearted.
Stood in line foor Peggy Sue Got Married .. Twice .. My to be wife loved every moment .. TgT

They re-reviewed Crocodile Dundee a week later and loved it.

They whiffed on Croc.
Good save, Roger.
Both Siskel and Ebert seem completely unaware of the blockbuster novel, 'The Name of the Rose' and its themes. Curious...
Rafael: were do they come up with this stuff
A prime Linda Kozlowski was so fine 😍
Peggy Sue got married is a good movie.
Peggy didn't bump her head, she had a heart event and collapsed.
Was the "bald guy" comment really necessary, Roger? lol
I just saw That's Life, it's a good movie.
I have a few questions about Jack Lemmon
8/10 times I agree with ebert but I do not agree with the crocodile Dundee criticism that was a solid movie a lot of good scenes in it good ending
This two guys are fun, but I often don’t agree with their tastes. Peggy Sue Got Married is a mediocre movie for fucks sake
I agree, I never got the hype for Peggy Sue. I watched it once and it was fine, but I had no interest to rewatch it.
It was awful but Cage was hilarious.
The Name Of the rose is a great movie. They are way off here.
peggy sue got married was a ripoff to back to the future
