*refrigerator technician not mechanic. A set standard for a name is already established in accordance with the things you do. I might be wrong, but i don’t assume a percentage majority of your career involves cutting open refrigerant compressors and welding them back together after a repair of the mechanical part inside whatever they may be as pistons or scroll blades? You’d replace the majority of compressors you would work with if they were damaged as well as ice crushers and pumps etc. The same would go for any valves in the fridges. There needs to be standards in the name!

Guys, that old Westinghouse dehumidifier must have been way cheaper than the dehumidifiers at Lowe’s. Lowe’s dehumidifiers cost from anywhere between $175 and $1200
Me personally when I do this kind of thing to get the refrigerant out I just take the unit outside and clip the line with wire cutters to let the refrigerant out and just stand back and let it all fly out
A good way to destroy these is to fill the case with self-hardening foam so no air can get in, then turn it on and watch the compressor overheat until it melts down.

We have very different types in Britain. My mum uses dehumidifiers that have these circular blocks inside them that absorb the moisture, and it condenses into a blue liquid.
As a fridge mechanic, I’m very happy you recovered the gas properly, that was my only concern as R22 is ozone depleting

What I like about this guys is that they are goofy but not stupid, they know their stuff and take the appropriate precautions to not get killed
