    I bought an old farmhouse built in 1939; I been thinking about something similar to this but held out from wall a little ways to house indirect lighting. I'm glad I found your channel.

    What I like most about this is that it can easily be changed down the road without ripping anything out. With just that and then some of the cheapest, white crown moulding, it would look like a million bucks without too much money or effort.

    We just ripped some hideous crown molding out of the dining room. It was gapping and installed like crap, glad it's gone lol. We are going to redo the drywall and this looks like an awesome idea to replace crown molding. This is also not our "forever home" we want it to look nice, but not invest and arm and a leg in every small detail. Thanks for sharing!!

    Those little tubes of caulking are so handy for fixing spots that get missed too. My mom's house from the 40's has this more simple type of molding but then with a simple crown molding and I have always loved it. It's also way easier to clean. Can't wait to see how everything looks!

    By not doing butt joints and doing 45' degree cuts for all your corners in and out plus seams gives a more finished look... less chalk and less filler.

    I just did this to my brand new tongue & groove pine ceiling. I used 1x3 primed boards against the wall and 2 inch boards for the ceiling.
    I'm not so worried about nail holes - its the "seams" that look bad. Anytime I've caulked, I did a horrible job. Is this the specific caulking you recommend? Can you please walk me thru the steps of caulking so I don't ruin a great ceiling?
    Your job looks wonderful!

    Using Megan's design for our project. How do you know "WHERE" to nail in the ceiling boards? Anyone have a sure-fire way to locate ceiling joists? Our stud-finder does great finding wall studs, so we're good on the vertical (wall) board. But trouble finding where to nail/screw up horizontal (ceiling) boards due to our 1/ Popcorn ceiling 2/ PVC ceiling tiles-- both are throwing off the stud finder. P.S. We're using T10 Finishing Screws-- will these hold a 7-ft. board on the ceiling if just screwed into drywall?

  • @michellblackwell7629
    @michellblackwell7629 8 місяців тому

    What sand paper grit did you use to sand the excess wood filler? Also I had watched your video a couple weeks before starting this project, I have all the boards already up and realized now that I did not put two sets of nails in like top and bottom side by side ( I had to use smaller boards and am using a brad nailer which prefers the path of least resistance I’ve learned so I try to stay away from the edges. I hope one nail every so often across the board is going to be ok in the long run 😅 this has been quite the experience for me with these tools I had never used before haha 😅😂 I’m just hoping the caulking is going to truly make mine look as good as yours do in the end 🤞🤞🤞

    Did you just nail willy-nilly or did you find the studs?! I hope you used a stud finder to locate them before nailing...and maybe just didn't show it?! Anyway, regardless, this is stunning. And a huge cost saver. I just bought a house that just finished construction and they did not do crown molding so I was going to install some first thing. We get our keys next week after closing and I happened to find this video. I'll be installing this instead. Literally saves me hundreds of dollars, if not a thousand or more. Thank you!!
