Hi Tom! Nice video as usual! Thanks for always making space for reviewing the cheapy machines ! Maybe you normally do this but missing on the video was a good little stir for an even more balanced shot. I realized how that little detail was making such huge impact in the taste of my espresso shots. Great latte art though! Cheers!
Sometimes it is making a sound like pressure equalizer and sometime little water comes out from the steam wond when making first cup of coffee. The puck is more damp than with the dedica, so I use 51 mm paper filter instead of puck screen. Besides that it works great and it’s more easier to work with than dedica.
For a better review, be sure to taste the water from a blank shot. It’s a crucial step that often gets overlooked. The water runs through internal tubing, which could affect its taste or even leach substances like BPAs and phthalates. Identifying any off-flavors can reveal issues with material quality or filtration.
thanks Tom, aware you have opened up the machine. do you mind sharing your observations on how does it compare against Dedica in terms of the internal build quality and material?
@@TomsCoffeeCorner cheers! great video as always. and I just have to say you're bringing me, and I'm sure many more into the fascinating world of coffee ;) keep doing what you're doing
Thank you. I have had this coffee maker for 2 months now and this is the first such detailed review of it. I have already bought all the accessories that you recommended, except for the knock box. I do without it for now. In addition, I bought a metal mesh for the portafilter, which allows me to keep the group clean. For the first time I saw the contents of the machine without a lid. I noticed that the coffee turns out different if I use the standard and bottomless portafilters with the same basket. What do you think is the reason for this? So far I can’t achieve a stable espresso result, but this probably largely depends on the different coffee beans and a not so good coffee grinder. I have a HiBrew G3A. And also my skills. The most important thing for me is that your review confirmed that my choice of the H10B was correct and I will be able to learn how to brew good home coffee on it.
Well, I suppose there could be different reasons for a difference in taste between the bottomless and included PF. The included one has a somewhat strange array of 3 mesh circles for the coffee to flow through, and plastic and aluminum. That could make a little difference to a bottomless, since that's just open to the air, not allowing the coffee to touch anything else. Cheers!
Great review! I’m particularly interested in the temperature stability of the machine. Have you developed a specific workflow to consistently achieve a brewing temperature of 92-93°C? I’ve found that with the Dedica, performing two short rinses with hot water before extraction yields good results in terms of temperature stability. However, I’ve noticed that the machine only displays the set temperature during extraction. Is there a way to change this and see the actual brewing temperature instead? Also, can the OPV (Over Pressure Valve) be set to a different pressure, or is it controlled by a spring that can’t be adjusted? Looking forward to your insights!
I don't think the OPV is easily adjustable, but I didn't have a great look at it. I do agree that a couple of short rinses is always a good idea. But from my measurements, it doesn't hold it super steady at the set temperature, but bows down in the middle, and heats up towards the end, kind of like the Dedica. I think that might be inherent to traditional thermoblocks.
Thanks for another good video, Tom. And is this machine actually have real PID or it just have basic temp control, like "reached lowest level of temp - turn on / highest level - turn off". I played with some Chinese machines and they promised PID, which was actually just a bit more customizable (you can change temp settings) approach to old type of control. As a result their temps fluctuating all the time. You can even hear how relatively rare relay is switching (not even ssr, of course you can't hear that haha). And that approach often doesn't turn on the thermoblock during extraction. And of course it not adjust PID settings dynamically to be able to react on a flow speed. From the test you showed in the video, it feels like this machine looks very similar to what I experienced with other brands, like Gemilai for example.
It is a PID, like on the Gaggia Espresso Deluxe. I find it's not super accurate, maybe because the build of the thermoblock has too much hysteresis to try to control better. But it's a little better I find, then when they have no thermoprobe and PID.
It really is an interesting little machine. The only thing I would change immediately, however, is the portafilter, as it only produces pseudo crema and is made of aluminum. But for the price, even with a digital display, precise temperature selection and timer, that's great. Perhaps a good follow-up, should my beloved Dedica ever stop working?
many have cut the bottom of a stock portafilter to create a naked one. i took mine to a machine shop for this but others have diy using the appropriate size drill hole bit. videos online about doing this.
Interesting machine. Some accessories compatible with Delinghi, nice. But as i have an ECP 3630 i have 2 tab porta filters. I wonder why so many 51mm use the 3 tab? It would be great if there was a standard.
PID machine under $200. Impressive. What is the max PID temp that you can set? My Miicoffee Apex v2 goes up to 102c and I use that temp sometimes, and that thermoblock on the HiBrew must go even higher than 102c if it's usable for steam.
Hi Tom, Can you tell me which is the right grinder settings for HiBrew G5 grinder in case of H10B machine -- both Dark and Medium Roasts. Also if you can make a small video showing them it would be lovely
Hi Tom, if I were to brew on both machines with the same filter basket, beans and size, would the H10B brew faster than the Dedica? The H10B has a 20 bar pump, so I'm wondering if I should grind the beans finer or use more coffee than I did with the 15 bar machine. I think that difference will affect the taste. Thank you.
Hi there! I tried to show that it maxes out at 11 bar anyway, not 20. NONE of these machines extract at 15 or 20 bar - that's false advertising, but they all do it. They are both the same, as far as extraction time goes. Cheers!
I'm curious to know your opinion about Superkop. I watched your another video from an expo. But you didn't say anything about espresso taste or such. I watched Lance's review and he didn't like the shot quality as it was too watery. What do you say, buy it or skip?
Well, it's hard to draw a conclusion by just having 1-2 shots, to be honest. We were actually dialing it in at the Expo. It's a cool machine, but too expensive for what it is, in my opinion.
Very nice. I wish I would need a new machine, but alas I have my delonghi only for a year now. My better half would not accept that. (even if it is dirt cheap)
Well in Greece it costs 360€ ( sent from the Netherlands) and the Dedica Arte ( which is the new dedica standard with the real steam wand) costs 200€. The hibrew actually has the same price as the bambino which also has a pid and heats up in 3 seconds. So I'd say it still isn't really worth it if you consider hibrew vs bambino. Hibrew vs dedica is unfair because of the price difference.
Hello i just bought a delonghi dinamica plus , if i set the grind from 5 to 3 like everybody suggested i get a message to refill with beans aldo container is full and i get no coffe. If i put it back on 5 machine works , my question is my beans are dogshit or machine broken ?
@TomsCoffeeCorner yeah the dose in coffee tray is really small ,a wet powder everything sounds ok till coffee supposed to come out then i get a weird sounds and the massage refill with beans , on 5 i fiind a really Nice puck in coffe tray , ill probaly be to afraid to try it with different beans so i dont break the machine
They look good enough for a starter but i still would go for a dedica , dedicas are solid they have made a reputation that they work and wont lose quality after time. And have to say dedica pumps are better I've seen a lot from dedica. Happy coffee drinking.

I'm sorry, but you have to dial in for each bean. I recently did a video with Lavazza beans and the DF54. It'll be a similar process with the G5.

So question, does the PID control only temperature or pressure as well? Do you get more than 9 bar during the shots or it is stable?
Usually only temp
PID is for the temperature. If you grind properly, you can achieve 9 bar. 11 bar is just the maximum it can go to.

I have not seen that one yet...
I would also like to check inside the H10B, but is the top panel easy to remove? Do I need special tools?
4 screws
@@jazzeppelin Oh, Thanks for your reply! I removed the water tank and found two screws on the top, but where are the other two?
I found the remaining two screws on both sides of the shower head. They were long screws. Thank you.
It's easy - just 2 screws at the back lid, and 2 underneath the front, near the brew group.
Does it have pipa?

What does it look like compared to delonghi dedica?
I'd say it compares favorably. It's like an already pumped Dedica.
VS the De'Longhi ECP3630? Which I just bought. Would you send it back and get the H10B? I only do light roast coffee BTW.
The ECP series has a special place in my heart. So I'd prefer that one. But I suspect the H10B will do better for light roasts with the PID.
