That reaction at the end wasn't Goku reacting to the senzu bean actually working. It was Goku reacting to the sensation of being full for the first time in his life.

To be fair it is basically the samething for Goku. A good meal will heal death for him.
The Senzu bean changed throughout the story but it became too powerful so Toriyama had to make the scarcity more rare, hence why Yajirobe was sent to Korin tower and he ate most of them and considering how long they take to grow, the Z fighters only had less than a handful each time.

If senzu beans were real we’d be that much closer to solving world hunger.

World hunger isnt due to lack of food, its due to supply chains unable to reach everyone. Theres enough food in the world to feed everyone. However not everyone can access that food. If senzu beans were real, they'd be considered a drug and probably illegal as theres probably huge bad benefits if eaten unproperly. Theres no way something like a food thay keeps you full for 10 days and heals all wounds dont come with bad side effects. Probably if you are weak like other humans, you probably die if you ate a bean.

The senzu beans are capable of instantly healing all wounds and replenishing your full stamina though it cannot heal scars, and it also gives you enougb sustenance to keep you feeling full for 10 days and consuming a lot in series gives you a pound of fat per bean.
Because of that, you can quickly carb load on beans like yajirobe or live off of a bean per tenday only diet for decades like korin
Maybe because goku didn't have any battle damage and the only thing he felt wrong is his hunger.

But to heal the others is too magical.
The magical part only meant that a single bean can last u 10 days not the healing part.

My head canon is that the filling part is proportional to how much healing the bean had to do, judging by the "at least 10 days" remark.
So if you had an entire hole closed off or extensive body damage repair, one's probably asking for seconds.
Look at the gravity chamber training, Goku was freebasing senzus and still ate most of his food, if not all.
Is this also essentially Goku's first zenki boost? He was beat pretty bad by Tao Pai Pai

I always wonder if Korin changed how he prepped the beans by the time of DBZ? Maybe he altered the preservation process so it would do more to heal and less to fill you up? I mean there clearly is some kind of treatment he uses on the beans to make them that crunchy. I don't care how magical they are, beans don't naturally sound like that when eaten!

They could also be magical and only fill up a being based on their needs increasing and decreasing based on what each individual needs.
And somehow they didn't kill Yajirobe after he shoveled a pounds worth in his stomach.
It expanded Yajirobe’s stomach so much he had to start living off them

Senzu Beans are the Ultimate PEDs in combat sport if it's real.
You can train hard without the fear of overtraining or injuries. You can recover in between rounds from damage, CTE and exhaustion.
Boxers can no longer fear serious brain damage. It even looks like it can rehydrate you better than any illegal IVs 😂

@@AmitCinematicUniverse i think that 1 bean makes you full, so half a bean gives you half of the energy. In theory you could consume 1/10th of the bean and still get some energy back

And Yajirobe ate potentially hundreds of them at once.
It didn't just heal everyone but also restored their full power regardless of their power level.
They didn't even have to use a full bean, half of it was enough. It was just one of the terrible ideas the series had, just like the one where saiyans get a huge power upgrade when healed or the dragon balls that had the power to revive everyone, making death meaningless and sacrifices cheap.
At least these have magic and alien biology at work, unlike a certain series where characters can heal by emptying an-all-you-can-eat and the supposedly dead will pop up at the end of the arc like "uh what'd I miss?"
I always thought that the revival element of the Dragon Balls was one of the best parts about the show. Sure, I would rather have deaths with consequences, but I feel like the Dragon Balls are a much better alternative than fake-out deaths. At least with being able to revive the fallen, the story is able to add actual suspense to the fights when it comes to whether or not a character might die, rather than having zero suspense at all because you know a character isn't going to die no matter what happens because they're part of the main cast. It allows for actual shock value when somebody is suddenly killed, rather than brushing off the death as obviously fake.

Korrin is still being a bit of a cheat here since eating a proper meal is still more pleasurable than a single bean, no matter how instantly satisfying.

Don’t forget, Yajirobe ate several handfuls later on, and he continues to live up there, so it’s not far-fetched that he could be eating most of them.
