Hey to anyone getting "operation not permitted"; this is because you have a newer OS with SIP/rootless enabled. To disable it allowing you full root access, you have to boot to recovery shell (cmd+R+S), type csrutil disable; then reboot and go back to the regular shell (cmd+S) and continue as this video suggests.

I know it’s been 4 years… but damn I need your help. I did the cmd+R+S and typed csrutil disable
It’s not working. It says “failed to modify system integrity configuration. This tool needs to be executed from recovery OS.”
I can’t get to recovery because of blue screen

not sure if your setup might behave similarly, but i had the same annoying issue. my computer would *sometimes* get to the login screen, maybe after trying like 30 times. i tried getting into recovery mode dozens of times and finally i got in, although the screen looked extremely distorted. i was able to disable the security and then was able to get to single user mode and follow this video.. haven't tested it long term after that but I can boot my computer much more easily, at least for the first couple of tests

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I brought my Macbook Pro to an Authorized Reseller as per Apple's advice and they charged me $60 for diagnostics and $45 for data recovery. They said it was hardware related and couldn't do anything to fix the Macbook Pro but at least they were able to save my data! So with nothing left to lose, I came onto UA-cam to find a fix... tried out so many tutorials and NOTHING was working and I thought I messed up the fix even more! Tried your advice, still screwed up one command and didn't know how to fix it, so just forged ahead... upon reboot, still getting terminal screen... then, like a miracle, system restarted like a brand new Macbook Pro! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! AMAZING!

Hey guys! First, thanks a lot Nahush. You saved me a lot of money :--)
If you guys are struggling with the System Integrity protection while trying to make modifications to the MBP, I found a way around this (NOTE: There's a very little possibility of erasing all your data).
First, El Capitan is protected with SIP but when the computer was shipped it was installed with Snow Leopard which doesn't have SIP. So by doing internet recovery you might disable SIP.
    1. Press Command (⌘) - Option (⌥) - R
    2. After it's loaded, it won't work because screen will go gray.
    3. Turn off the computer by holding the power button and then restart. When you hear chimes press CMD + R but switch rapidly to CMD + S
    4. This will take you to safe-mode. Computer is now pretty confused! Don't care about the code what's coming in; just boldly write: csrutil disable. Try to write as fast as you can.
    5. This will disable SIP and allow you to make modifications.
    6. Type reboot and then follow Nahush's tips to disable AMD-drivers
Internet recovery might erase all your data or not. In my case it didn't (internet recovery failed but it gave me a chance to disable SIP.)
Good luck! And oh, MBP2011 without AMD-chip is pretty choppy and laggy. Say goodbye to games or work in video-editing. Internet surfing in Chrome is pretty bad and Safari isn't good either. I found a way out of this as well; download Waterfox-browser. It's light and easy and runs smoothly 1080p-video.
    Good luck!

Thank you! This trick helped me to disable System Integrity Protection that was enabled by El Capitan, and I was then able to make the necessary modifications to disable the AMD graphics card extensions so that the integrated Intel graphics card will work. What a pickle!

it is due to SIP which is enabled. you have to reboot mac in recovery mode (command+R), then select terminal. Enter in terminal next (without quotes): "csrutil disable" and "reboot".
if you can't boot in recovery mode you can do next trick (it helped me, but from second time, I began to hold buttons in last second and quickly released them after dark screen):
      1) Power off your notebook.
      2) Power on, than hold: command + option + R
      3) Select your Wi-Fi
      4) Wait to download the recovery "image" from internet (progress bar with World/Internet logo).
      5) When at end of download, hold: command + S
      6) Keep holding "command + S" until boot start (progress bar with apple logo).
      7) You will see a boot in a "console/terminal" mode.
      8) run cmd: csrutil disable
      9) run cmd: reboot

In 2014 we encountered the problem for the first time and an official Apple servicepoint supossedly changed our Motherboard. Now the problem arise again and this time the late 2011 models has just been declared 'vintage' so Apple won't give anymore service.
Do you know why our late 2011 does not have the AMD Kexts files in the place it supposed to be? Can it be that the servicepoint did not change the motherboard but has performed the procedure in your video?

So, I did the above steps including seeing if the 5 disabled AMDRadeon files were in the disabled extensions folder and they were. When I rebooted it did boot this time but the screen rolls and everything is an awful green tint now. I already put in my serial number on the Apple site and apparently didn't make the cut. I purchased my macbook pro used just over a year ago so there was no applecare or anything. Kind of a shame that Apple isnt taking care of any and all computers that had this fail.
Guess I'm open to any recommendations. Been dealing with this first happening last summer and would randomly get it to reboot and operate for a few days just fine but I guess it kept getting worse. I don't have the money to support myself now (computer helped keep me working), so, no I can't afford to replace or purchase a new one. I had counted on mine lasting at least 5 years. But I had also counted on my prior pro 13 inch lasting 5 years and it bombed just after my applecare did.

Hey! I did what you explain in the video and even thought the MBP is very slow, i was able to get the data that i need off the machine. One thing i noticed is that Power Management doesn't work anymore. Also i am not able to lower the brightness of the screen which drains the batteries. Do you think this is related to the workaround here presented?

Hi Nahush, need your help here.
I had the same issue before with my Macbook and followed your instructions and it worked well. However I was having issues with my display and Apple logo lighting up in sleep mode as well utilising power in sleep mode.
I contacted Apple support and they recommended to upgrade to OS X El Capitan which I did however it has still not solved the issue. Now the booting stops at grey screen.
I have again tried to follow your steps however now when I press Command + S and switch On, I am getting in my Command window, LocalHost: /root# instead of /root#.
Can you please let me know how can I get away with this LocalHost additional thing?

I was able to move all the files as per the tutorial, but unfortunately it did not work for me fully. I have AMD Radeon 6770M card for my 17-in MBP. I do get stripes on my screen now (various colors at various stages, white/blinking stripes after login). Very slow to load and the laptop gets heated up. I am assuming it is a hardware issue at this stage.

So basically ur disabling the separate grafux card in which this case is the AMD/ATI Radeon and forcing the comp. to just use the Intel integrated grafix card... The comp. is still handicap though... but good temporary solution.

Hello! I don't know if anyone still needs this information but I found a way to put the drivers back and get it working again. Removing the drivers actually did more harm to my Macbook instead of fixing the problem. Also, on my particular Macbook, I found that my system used ATI drivers instead of AMD, so wherever you see ATI in these steps REPLACE it with AMD if your computer uses AMD drivers!!! What I found that worked for me:
      1. Reboot into single-user mode using command-s on startup.
      2. Once logged in as root, navigate to the System folder using the command "cd /System/"
      3. Issue the command "mount -uw /" to make the System folder writable.
      4. Navigate to the folder in which you placed the Disabled Extensions, using the command "cd //
      5. Issue the command "mv ATI(orAMD)* /System/Library/Extensions/
      6. If you issue the command "ls /System/Library/Extensions ATI*" you should see the drivers back where they belong.
      Hope this helps someone!

If you get no QE/CI graphics acceleration with the HD 3000 after removing the AMD kexts, you have to run this command in terminal and reboot:
    sudo nvram fa4ce28d-b62f-4c99-9cc3-6815686e30f9:gpu-power-prefs=%01%00%00%00

So, you've managed to boot the MB in a "software video driver"-like mode (which is quite unusable, but only to recover some data, maybe). When are we supposed to "fix the graphic card"? I suggest you to rename the video :/
