I raced a rear engined dragster for almost ten years. You are exactly correct, you try to make every pass as equal and consistent as possible. So at the end of 10 years I actually only remember the big wins and the time the tranny failed. Most of the individual passes all blend together into one big pass. I know this is more superstitious than what your video topic is concerned with but heck I used to drive the same roads and stop and eat the same breakfast at the same place every race day. Those McDonalds hot apple pies helped me get my 2nd points championship!! Thank you Tom! Great topic!
haha I know how that goes... I've been too superstitious in the past too... actually wouldn't have been too bad of an idea to bring that up in the video... I think it's important to do the same thing ever time BUT, don't get too tied to a routine either... what I mean is: you don't want to be so stuck in your routine that if something happens and throws you off you're screwed. You gotta be comfortable enough with your set up and everything if someone breaks right in front of you or whatever...know what I mean? Thanks for the comment my friend!!
This is the kind of videos I subscribed for. Sincerely thank you for the work and effort you put behind these videos. I would like to mention if everyone left a comment "consistently" it would help your channel grow lol.
Or what if everyone commented the same number of times I said the word "consistent" 🤣 hahaha.. well thanks man! It's really good to know that there is someone out there getting value for these videos. It's really hard to nail down who exactly the audience is, I'm never really sure if everyone watching already knows all this stuff or not... and if anyone actually cares! 😆 So I really do appreciate the feedback my friend!! Good luck this year 🤘
I would add that chassis flex is a huge disadvantage, check your car often for hairline cracks etc ,tighten everything regularly add gussets if there not there allready .i run a door car but i imagine if anyone's car seems to be nit winning like it used to the answer may be in a flexing chassis
I had to install a cup holder to hold my 24 oz coffee mug on Sunday morning Super Trophy runs. Also have learned to put my cigarette in the ashtray and pinch it closed to hold it in place. Now that those two things don't go flying when I hit 2nd gear I'm a lot more consistent.
I just have my short, slow S10 😁😁😁 I thought of a intro song for you. Hooked on an 8 second ride by Chris LeDoux :D (I forgot what your ET was last time you raced) See you this weekend Thomas
You know I'm not sure if I'm ever going to use any sort of copyright music again... I made two years worth of videos utilizing the youtube music policies page to make sure my videos would be ok and they always were ok... now almost 3 years later I notice that at least 3 of my videos are blocked due to copyright reasons.... and clearly they were fine back when I uploaded them, cuz they got all kind of views and it was public for like 2 years... so what sucks is you can put a bunch of work into a video and the policy says its ok to use (just can't monetize)... then two years later they can change their mind... idk it sucks... I made over 100 videos with copyright music in them, hopefully a few of them last... 😔 oh boy.. sorry for that ramble... haha
GallStar TV Yea, I thought about that after I posted it. I had a couple of videos of me at I29 and there was music in the background that the track was playing. I got my hand slapped. Well, you can sing it to yourself 😁😁😁
Check tire pressure is huge Engine temp same every pass Get a rhythm Stage EXACT same, bump in 2nd every time no exemptions. When doing dbl entries or classes have my wife waiting with charge and fan on standby Hit the brake a few times while in car on deck. Good video Tom.
33 x 16.5 mickey thompsons on my car. And yeah, I suppose you could fit about anything. Some of the limiting factors would be that of course a taller bigger tire is eventually going to slow you down compared to a smaller tire. But the BIGGEST factor for us is actually fitting the cars in the trailer 😁 we put them side by side and if we were any wider they wouldn't fit. haha
The only thing I wonder with all your tips is how dads car is so consistent? He has no rev limiter and no air or electric shifter. Maybe just a Mopar thing! 😜
great question, I'm actually working on putting a video like that together here someday, but short answer is that it really depends on your car and a lot of different things. My old combination used to be very predictable, it took about 200-300 ft to change it a hundredth, but I actually would pay attention to the humidity and barometric pressure more then the DA. Of course you gotta factor in all the track conditions as well. In short, it just takes time and you gotta pay close attention to the weather station and record really good data. If you do that long enough you'll learn what patterns your car follows. Software can help. Sorry I know that's a round about answer but it just really depends on a lot of things!!

a tip : watch movies on flixzone. Been using it for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Willie London definitely, I've been watching on flixzone for years myself :)
Keep the engines hood open to cool down the engine as the day goes on once you did you pass helps a lot, could even add a fan too

Great channel. Cool dude. May I ask if you use a particular transmission fluid? Thanks!
Keep up the great knowledge and tips cheers

Terry, you are Mr. Consistency. We are gonna be there for the wins this year!
Rest in peace, Terry.
Would love to see you cover weather correction.

Great video 👍 Question for you: what size tires do you run on your car? Seems like you could fit about anything back there. Is there a limit?

I have the ultimate heavy door car . most my car has varied is .014 at 3500lbs running 6.teens to 6.20s at 110+ 1/8th mile
NICE.. must be doing something right! What's the secret?? 🤔
Thanks for the tips!!!
no problem thanks for watching!
Great stuff Tom thank you
Hope you are consistent enough this year to need a second case for a second ring. 😄
hahaha.. THAT would be amazing! 🤣
💀🥜. Can't wait to get the car out of the shop so I can race!!

Sounds like we need a guest star on the show 🤘 You guys have BEEN WARNED!! 😁
It’s his car so he can be the guest speaker!
Colton Bierle we shall work on that this weekend 😁
Nice video!
THANKS DUDE! 👊
A slightly lean carburetor will tend to swing (ET's) less throughout the day.
Oh no now everybody's going to know , just kidding great advice thanks .
What is the one or two factors when looking at the weather on race day.
Jimm Murray density altitude, humidity, barometric pressure, and temperature are big ones.
@@GallStarTV thank you, and in eighth Mile Racing what noted change seems to make the most difference in e.t?
Dry barometer and horsepower correction factor.
Dead nutz!!
💀🥜
How do you calculate changing DA into your et?
