      Keep in mind that the layouts I show are made to be small to keep the prices low. I may not employ best practices all the time. I didn't have a lot of money when I started making my own pedals so cost was important.

      @@HomespunEffects that is nice. I will keep watching your videos and learning more. The BYC and the GGG kits are basically the price of an original pedal. Now instead of paying $69 for a kit. Did you go to school for electrical engineering? Love the detailed and resourceful lesson. I stumbled onto a hidden passion for guitar signal and tone chasing about 2 years ago, built first few fuzz pedals completely from scratch rather than ordering a kit bc of the simplicity of Bazz Fuss circuit. Fell in love with the craft immediately and dreamed of starting a small company using my background as a carpenter to build unique cabs and housings, and learning the electronics on my own.
    Well that dream went on backburner for maybe a year until I applied and was accepted into electrical engineering at central ohio technical college a week ago. It's pretty interesting that so many folks who are much more knowledgeable than myself have learned mostly on their own from books and online resources. Was just wondering what your background was if you don't mind sharing with a greenhorn?

    • @HomespunEffects
      @HomespunEffects  2 роки тому

      I took a 6 month class back in 1988 but it was for repair, no engineering or anything like that. Didn't really learn much from it and never worked in the industry. Fast forward to recent times, I joined a church band and got into tone chasing. Mostly because the amp they “bought me” was absolute trash (Fender Hot Rod Deluxe). I wanted a Klon and they were tons of loot. So I looked into building pedals and figured out Eagle and started copying schematics. That’s pretty much the history. The church band never really worked out because they were consistently testing me by giving me the songs an hour before service. I hate using charts. I asked for the songs a week in advance and they said "not gonna happen” so I started sitting out.

    These are the perfect videos for a newb like me. I've searched everywhere to find something to help me get started building pedals and this is by far the best reference. Have you done a video where you trace out the schematic and explain what is going on? I'm also curious.. just off the top of your head, what do you think this project cost to build? Thanks! Looking forward to working my way through your videos.

    • @HomespunEffects
      @HomespunEffects  3 роки тому +2

      I generally don't get into very much electronic theory. Especially since my last class was 32 years ago and I've probably forgotten as much as I every knew. 😂
      I should make a quick database for these projects concerning how much they cost. Not including shipping for parts, I figure the cost of the treble booster is right around $23.

    • @Jem7sk
      @Jem7sk 3 роки тому

      @@HomespunEffects Thank you.. definately cheaper than buying a kit :) Do you know of a resource that will trace a pedal circuit and explain what is going on? It is much easier to find info on building amps than pedals.

    • @HomespunEffects
      @HomespunEffects  2 роки тому

      For simple and time-tested circuits like this and most home-built pedals, I don't. I will breadboard from time to time if I'm experimenting.
      If were talking making changes to an amplifier power supply or tone stack, I'll simulate them.
