Those pouches should be provided by the car companies as a result whats happening automatically especially when your paying thousands for a car and pouches only cost a few £$€ et
No, they need to re-engineer the fobs so they send encrypted signals, and only send transmissions when the user is actively using the fob. In other words, no transmission if you are not pressing any buttons. Or, even better, just go back to regular standard metal keys with digital signatures. There was nothing wrong with that, not sure why they phased it out.
@@rockhaze Manufacturers could put a sensor in the key fob so that if it's not in motion, it doesn't transmit any signal. When it's in your pocket or hand, a signal is emitted.
@@mimose5747 Those pouches are designed to block 13 Mhz and 125 Khz signals. The car key fobs's I have experience with operate in the 315 Mhz range. So unless the pouches are faraday cage bags that block all low frequencies, they won't work.
I don't understand why the car manufactures a) make these things, other than to dumb down and lazy up society that's too lethargic to turn a key in an ignition, or b) why they don't TEST THE TECHNOLOGY and, gee, I don't know, design the fob so it only transmits when you press the button to unlock. I know, serious ground-breaking concepts, here.
Seems to me that car makers are pretty stupid that they didn't think about that..that's the reason that I don't have a smart home with lock device because sooner or later someone will find a way to open your house when you're not home
And how would you know? From the looks of it the equipment these criminals have is designed to push out and deflect a certain signal only used by vehicles with remote systems. I think it more so has to do with the cpu the car comes equipped with. The Push start button on the dash is hard wired.
How the hell do criminals know how to come up with all these advanced ways to steal your stuff and yet people with high degrees in technology and computers didn't
If you have two mylar birthday balloons (the shiny silver ones), or get them at Dollar Tree, (you can even use aluminum foil) you can quickly make your own Faraday bags and save yourself the money. I used two mylar balloons. I tried with just one, but the material wasn't thick enough. The way you test your homemade Faraday bag is, place your cell phone inside it and have a friend call your phone. If your phone still rings you will need a second layer of mylar or aluminum foil. It took two layers for my phone not to have signal. Make sure you fold the end of the bag over and you like a paper clip binder because if the bag is open slightly, radio signals can still get in.
Question is, what happens when the their makes a getaway, then turns the car off? How do they get it to restart? Takes the same keyfob to enable the start mode.
When they steal the car, the next stop is usually the chop shop, so it doesn't matter. Also since they already have the car, im sure they qell reprogram the car to except their fob.
When they say isolated it’s more bigger. This happens ever big event. Instead of hitting the chop shops that’s inquiring these cars they go after the smaller guys. They want crime to continue. Job security.
These guys used to have jobs that allowed them access to the equipment and knowledge. They probably got fired from a dealership. Also if this keeps happening auto makers with go back to High security automotive keys. Like an older BMW, Mercedes or range rover keys.
This is a big issue mostly with American brands the Japanese and European brands are a lil harder to come by with those little boxes since they are brand specific

Just buy some 99 cent foil paper and wrap your key into that it will block all signals

bought the same pouch when I lived in Detroit. It works
You can turn off that key phob!!👍
You can wrap your key phob in aluminum foil, this will block the key phob signal.
Simplest thing to do is find a small steel pot with a steel cover and leave your keys in it all the time when your not ready to go get in your car ..
It’s called a faraday cage
This has been going on for years now.
i don’t like how they’re amplifying the technique for criminals to use……
Don't worry, file this under misinformation because it's wrong.

This works with the start button cars because it transmits all the time, a key start car Fob only transmits when you push a button on it!!

Great coverage!
Put your fob key in the back of the house if your car 🚗 is in the front.
Many of these electronic code readers are available through mechanic tool suppliers as service tools.
Be carful with your passive unlock function also.
