- Classical education expert Susan Wise Bauer reviews the first years of a classical education: The Grammar Stage. She explains how parents and educators can optimize their teaching to reflect the unique strengths and weaknesses of grammar stage students.
Excellent!! I’m 60 and this makes so much sense!
This is exactly what I am seeing with my elementary student. Does fantastic on spelling test. Can’t spell the same words when the come up in dictation. Good to know that’s typical!
Very inspiring.
I love hearing her speak. I have a couple of questions. The first is how do we help balance out giving our student practice when they attend a traditional public school? How do we support them getting those base skills that will be so essential later? The second question is if students are gifted (think differently and work at an advanced level) does this alter or affect the traditional trivium stages?
Great questions! Too complex to answer in a short comment, but Dr. Bauer addresses both of these issues in her book "Rethinking School," which talks about supplementing a public-school education at home, and also talks about gifted students.
Any books about "grammar?"
I suppose this is just an extract from a longer lecture session. Would it be possible for you to post the entire lecture on the channel? It would be just wonderful if you could. Best wishes.
This was part of a whole morning of talks; the whole thing is too long to upload at once, so we're doing it in sections, one at a time!
This is so incredibly helpful!
So my kid isn't weird; he is just young yet 😂 good to know!
😂exactly!
