Like others have said, it's a neon bulb. It's the cheapest way of flashing the strobe light at 50Hz/60Hz. Only gas between the electrodes, hence "open circuit". When reflowing solder, you really should dab a bit of soldering flux onto the joint first. 👍
Good video! In the US that would most likely be the C2A neon lamp. These run at 120V AC line voltage. So for Europe there will be a higher voltage lamp.
Great video. Got a sl3300 not so long back. Used yt to fix the repeat. Gunked up! Looking forward to checking out your channel. Hopefully find rs ch550 belt changes somewhere. Thanks 👍
Thanks! I had a look and it seems that there is a service manual available for this system: www.manualslib.com/manual/1075892/Technics-Sl-Ch550.html This should be a great starter for ten. I would suggest removal of the back covers first then have a nosy inside and see what needs doing. The belt should be quite obvious, just got to work out whats in its way for removal. Good luck!
Good video mate, but try and take care where those big electrolytic caps are concerned especially after you've applied power. There was a big one on that board you removed and those things can be lethal.Take care.Enjoyed the vid.
I think in this day and age, with components so small, the items being fought for self repair are mostly unrepairable by the layman at home. To me it's fruitless and quite honestly just an unnecessary distraction.

Always good to see HiFi repairing videos, especially for turntables. Keep it going!

I found the bulbs extremely difficult to find. It may be the same in the UK or us though, as the strobe caters for both power hz regions? Not sure!

You're right, it was in my eyline. I discharged a tape decks caps onto my hand the other week by accident. All the fun of the fair!
As I said before it's like working on your car.
That is a neon indicator bulb
I'm really glad I didn't have to replace it as I couldn't find one!
Good to see this kind of content in the desperate need for right to repair movement too!

You shouldn't put power to that without the platter on. Not good for motor
Its irrelevant, doesn't make a jot of difference
