Thank you so much for this! Fixed my washer tonight-lost the magnetic force in my lid-put two round magnets like you showed and it sucked the lid right down!
Omg this worked! ! I didn't need the Lego trick, I used approximately 3in magnet/with picture on it that I had on the refrigerator and it worked. Your a life saver!
Thank you for this! I've been wondering how to do this on my LG washer for 7 years. Lol. I didn't even need to make a stopper either. I was able to hold my finger about 1/4" away from the hole and let the tab hit my finger, and then it retreated back into the locked position and stayed there.
This was the best explanation I found on the 2 stage locking mechanism. I have a Whirlpool Cabrio but the mechanics are the same. With that in mind once I used the magnet to see what was happening I was able to use a deck of cards to determine the correct space the lock should stop (I did not have a lego) and determined that I needed something 1/4 inch in depth taped to the flat area where the lock protrudes and that worked. I was able to tape a nut (as in nut and bolt) that was exactly the same as the cards as determined by a micrometer, actually .24 inches. Then I theorized that after 4 years the two plastic parts had started wearing each other out and tried two pieces of duct tape to the inside of the lock holder on the door and what do you know the machine is working perfectly and I can send back the new locking mechanism I had just purchased from Walmart. Thanks again for the great video definitely got the creative juices going.
This video saved me work. I couldn’t figure out why I was getting the dl code. I was so close to ordering another switch until I watched this. The magnets in my lid lost their magnet force to the point where it wouldn’t tell the lock to trigger. So I just waved a strong magnet over the lid magnets and bam, now my washer works fine again
Wow.. so the magnets in your lid somehow got demagnetized? Are you saying that you were able to remagnetize them using a strong magnet? Or are you saying you now always have to use a strong magnet outside the lid in order to provide the magnetic field so your washer will work?
THANKYOU!! ❤ I just sprayed some PTFE lubricant on the nub that pokes out and cleaned around where the magnets are and it's working again! 😊 I also put something heavy on the lid to make sure the magnets read each other.
thank you sire. genius. exactly what i needed today. the solution to my problem came to me by means of your video.. olds break washers with their bbbmr comments .
Remove the switch using a phillips screwdriver and remove the plastic cover exposing the contacts and motor, but becareful not to bend the copper tabs inside. Then cut the wires to the magnetic sensor and connect them together (sensor will be removed and bypassed). Snap the cover back on and take 1.5" Velcro and wrap it around the plastic housing and tab, but make sure to leave a 5/16" gap in between the tab and velcro. Then take the sensor and tuck it down inside under the bleach tray corner area. Now the washer will run with the lid open. As for a permanent bypass (I doubt there is one unless you are a certified LG tech with a diagnostic tool). I believe the control board gets a signal from the tab position controlled by the small motor.
I tried to fix my friends lg top load washer with a lid malfunction and after four videos the last one said it could be as simple as powdered detergent built up on the hinges for the lid so I cleaned up the hinge area and it worked 👍
The biggest thing I hate about the lid lock is I can't wash out my detergent cup while the machine is filling up with water. So you got all that left over soap oozing all over the inside of the cup.
@@terryshilo4767 Btw, ever since I read your comment about throwing the cup into the washer with the clothes I find myself doing that ever so often now... Thanks for that!
Thank You for sharing 🙏 🙇🏽. Also man I’m not sure if you are in media or any form of broadcasting you have a phenomenal pitch & tonation you should consider voice work or public speaking if not already.
Would you happen to have any schematics for the door lock on the LG upright washer? Is there a way to rewire the switch and add a magnet to satisfy the two-step?
They are just standard size I guess... I didn't go out and specifically purchase them for this task... I was just looking for something I could make that I could tape onto the washer that would allow the tab to stick out just enough... you may be able to use all types of different things to do the task.. @@peterpulpitpounder the 2nd stage would fail. The white tab must not be allowed to overextend. There must be something to resist the tab from sticking out to much. If you cut it off, there would be no part of it left to running into the bump stop. Therefore the 2nd stage would fail.
