7:30 This guy said something important at 7:30 - only do this for your common coins. You do not want to do this on your Carson City Morgans lol. I plan on doing this to my collection of circulated Eisenhowers this weekend. Great video. Thank you
@@hydra3666 Yes, generally any item that is valuable because it's old or rare should not be cleaned or restored by amateurs, and many shouldn't be at all. Cleaning things definitely damages the value to collectors and historians
Thanks I have to try this. For anyone interested ... I found the polish at Walmart for less than 5 bucks. They also had another Mothers one that might be a bit better for a dollar more.
If you don't want the coins to tarnish again, slip them into a container of sorts. A sandwich bag works if you don't have any professional coin holders. When you polish coins, use some kind of gloves so that the oils from your fingers doesn't get on the metal and tarnish it.
This dude was ahead of his time. * Current day coin polishers* - use every color and consistency polish you can imagine tons and tons of it- video took 5 hours, shortened into 5 minutes *our dude* - so yeah I picked up some of polish from walmart and here you go mirror polish in 3 minutes
Thank you! I'm thinking I'll do this followed by masking away the surrounding and exposing only the bust. I'll use the bristle wire brush wheel on the bust to give it brushed finish. End result should look like a Proof.
I had friends who worked outside the Denver mint and sold mirror like coin sets, they put the coins in a tumbler with this red dust looking stuff, not sure what the red stuff was, but it worked with multiple coins.
Great Demo Fred!! I did this with a bunch of bicentennial quarters last year....you should have seen the guy at the gas station. You could tell he was a coin collector. I bet he thought they were proof coins LOL!!
Hi. Is the a felt buffing wheel or a kind of muslin? Also since Brasso and other metal polishers are white, is the an alright substitute if you have that already (no need to buy)? How about the red rouge that comes in the set? When is that used and at what rpm? Thank you.
I just bought a half dollar like in your video, but it's made into a ring. The details are on the inside and outside of the ring. I polished it by hand at first and it came really clean but not mirror finish. I have a Dremel and decided to follow your video and wow! Mirror finish on my coin ring. It really only takes just a few minutes.
a felt polishing disc and a wire polishing bit. I bought a Dremel 7700 and it came with both. Im very satisfied with it so far, just gotta stockpile on bits now. i had to buy a couple diamond tipped engravers
I recommend anyone doing this gets a coin guide book, like the Red Book. you never know if a coin you're holding a super rare coin without checking. if you're passing down coins to kids or grandkids you don't wanna give super rare coins that are worthless because of polishing. collectors won't buy polished coins. most won't even buy coins that have been cleaned, and believe it's easy to tell.
Yes, polished coins are considered to be damaged by collectors. Even coins that have been deoxidized by mild acids like lime juice or vinegar are undesirable to collectors because the acids will produce a pinkish hue on copper pennies, where an uncirculated copper penny will have an orangish, reddish or brownish hue.
What dremel polishing wheel attachments did you use? If someone wants to polish coins for a jewelry creation will the coins hold the polished mirror finish?
how do you think this technique would fair with a felt polishing wheel? Any feedback would be really appreciated, thank you for your great instruction video.
Good video, I have a special good luck half dollar that someone gave me years ago that could use this. It's my go to flipping coin for tricky decisions.
I DON'T have the tool you're presenting here, so what can I use instead (the coins I wish to polish are on a bracelet) that will have the same effect, or something near to it? Thank you.
Good video, easy to follow. I followed your instructions to polish my gun barrels and they look GREAT. Thank you for pointing out the Mother's polish compound, it's amazing.
@TactiFred i just lost my polishing tool and i loved the look of that coin but im from the uk so we dont get those how much to buy and for shipping with that exact finish to the coin?
Sure you can use the compound by hand with a cloth without tools but Polishing is polishing, you need high speed for speed and rotary tools are inexpensive, look at harbor freight
your probably right I have used dremels but only to cut and shape courds, and your right i used to polish some small marble boxes that i made by cutting up 1 foot square bloacks like tile thick and have had one of them go sailing across the shop with a buffing wheel.
How long does the finish last on the coin? I find this really good for videogame collectible coins because they usually don't really do anything special with the coins but the end result looks better than what you'd get from them.
It will last as long as you let it last. If you put the coin in a container and set it in your safe, in 60 years you can pull it out and it'll still be just as shiny.
Make sure to wash your proof coins because they often still have diamond fragments stuck to the surface from the diamond paste they used to polish the steel dies
I tried this with a quarter and its not getting the mirrored look to it. I dont have a plastic brush thing though. Mine is metal. Any suggestions on what im doing wrong??
Never came out like that when I did pennies. but shine seemed to dull overtime despite being clean. I shined by hand. shit gave me a blister. One thing I did different was use the wire brush attachment first because alot of the coins were filthy. that alone gave them some shine. not as great for the chewed up, gouged and damaged coins though. Did all I could for them
@TactiFred - Coin dealers are now polishing clad and 40% silver Eisenhower dollars and selling them on eBay and other coin auctions for $25 common clad or silver $45 each. Looks like you should get a cut from each one sold.
2:47 Or you could just wear some heavy gloves like maybe gardening gloves or welding gloves or something, then you won't need to dip the hot coin in water.
thanks, Jesse James two horses were named , skyrocket and stonewall. They were Missouri foxtrotters. President Truman's wife's cousin was in the Cantrell younger gang ...his name was Jim chiles . there is a gold vein in rocky bar idaho, about a mile down red warrior creek and 50 ft from the creek up the hill . the gold washes down the hill.
Great video! I think I've heard one time too many that you shouldn't polish rare coins because it will ruin them. So I'm going to do it. I have a nice MS-63 Morgan and it's gonna happen today. :D

you have to tell them that coin could fly across the room and bag something or somebody, try regular cleaner first and then if you wwant that polished look takes a lot shorter time, good idea for present, I always giove the year and try to find one that is 100 years old also. but nice job but be careful it will fly out of your hand. thanks Rocky
Im new to what goes on with collecting old coins. IMO what you did makes the coin look great! But doing this to a valuable coin ruins it? I can't comprehend the reason for this.
The reason ppl hate it is cause they want coins in original condition. If its a non cleaned bright and shiny coin its worth a lot. A cleaned coin is only worth its metal content. People also clean coins to increase their value to make money off people who dont know better

Good for coin collection kept from different countries when travelling, nice to have them shiny rather than all stained
That destroys their value man

T Short Bull Should I clean a rare gold coin?
No. Maybe just with mild soap and water and a q tip but that would be it and I wouldn't even do that.
T Short Bull I'm not sure if I should. It doesn't seem like it could damage it, but I don't want to risk anything.
What dremel polishing wheel attachments did you use? If someone wants to polish coins for a jewelry creation will the coins hold the polished mirror finish?
It is possible to selectively polish parts of the coin in order to make it like a proof or a reverse proof ?
I may have to try that, good video. Thanks for posting
how do you think this technique would fair with a felt polishing wheel? Any feedback would be really appreciated, thank you for your great instruction video.
I was wondering if a regular drill would work because he did have to turn the speed down. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated
My boyyy....thanks so much ...wowwww amazing video applause 👏 to you...A standing ovation...you teach me ....🤩💯👍I need this 😍
Great video. If there are scratches, will it remove them?
Can I use a drill and some pointy plyers to hold it instead of using my hands? What would happen if I dipped the whole thing in the water?
I Love it!
I never would have guessed how old this video is were it not for the dub step.
And the angles
Wow!!
Thanks for sharing this video!

What if you don't have power tools like that? You said you could do it with a cloth, but would it actually get that shine?
I DON'T have the tool you're presenting here, so what can I use instead (the coins I wish to polish are on a bracelet) that will have the same effect, or something near to it? Thank you.
hi & what sort of brush are you using polish the coin?
Thanks for the info... polished up a few coins today and some silver goblets
Hey i live in uk and what does the Dremel have to be a expensive good one and same for the bits and what polish compound is best

Are there any tool I can use If I don't want to hold the coin while I'm working on it. Maybe something like clamps or helping hands?
Would it be possible to use a cotton bud/q-tip and scrub it using that stuff? I don't mind if it takes far longer so long as I can do it
nvm he answered it later in the video

nice lighting m8

Beautiful
instructions unclear i got my coin stuck in my throat
What about buffing out new coins without polish and just the buffing wheel?
It looks like you are using two different brushes, which one are you using first?
I got a whole role of S quarter's at work!😁😁
Did you coat it with a chrome?
can you still use it to pay for things?
Will a polishing cloth come anywhere near the shine you have here? Thanks
Nope
I tried this with a quarter and its not getting the mirrored look to it. I dont have a plastic brush thing though. Mine is metal. Any suggestions on what im doing wrong??
If you are displaying these they look incredible. Like you said, avoid the real collectibles and leave them natural. Well done. Beautiful outcome.
Very cool. Thanks,
hey how long it took you
Cool, thats good to know! I just recently made a coin ring. Would you know how to smooth down scratches?
Lol a tad late. But polishing is technically taking layers of metal off so if you do that enough it would remove them.

to keep a coin from tarnish you buy coin capsules.
Use clear fingernail polish i use it on magic coins thar are handled alot
@2012UFOTruthSeeker I think you can do that. Exposure to oxygen is what's going to do it, so you can definitely store them to prevent that.

Thanks .

they sell s mint coins that have mirror finishes.
expensive though, my dad bought me a set for my birthday
They aren’t too expensive. Just make sure to not over pay. The mirror finish is different from this one.
Im from england, will this work on a 50p? (you have half dollar, dollar is like a pound to us and half a pound is 50p :3) Will it work though??
Will probably work. Google the different alloys used for the different coins. If the same then you're home and hosed.
So if I received a really shiny quarter in change from a merchant, it would be a COINcidence? (heh, heh)
They look like proof coins.
Can u use a paste like silver polish
