What separates them and Elvis is that when Elvis sings it you can feel the emotion, man there are not many performers that can do that these days. He brings out an entirely different dimension. You were so right that though he didn't write the lyrics or compose the music, his interpretation more than makes up for that. The songs become his own. He could take a song from a demo he was listening to and re arrange the song so it was different. Not bad for a man who could not read music, and actually failed music at school
Elvis's best singing was definitely in the 50s and early 60s and from 68 to 70 along with his physical condition he tried to sing this in 1972 but his best version is 1970 the operetic melodias but soulful voice makes this a messterpiece it's a shame what happened to Elvis in the end but in his prime he was greater than anyone thank you great video definitely a masterful performance
