This is incredible Gary. Such a large piece of work but you managed to keep the stitches all straight and even. I saw you struggle a little when pounding the stitching holes in the gusset, but you succeeded! Your hands are magic, Sir.
man thank you for doing this, you just gained a sub and motivated me into making my own. I don't have all the tools and materials yet but i will slowly start to collect. this is what i was looking for. great job
I enjoyed all 5 parts. This bag looks amazing. All the hard work you put into it is really nice to see. Who ever uses this bag will be able to use it for a life time! Keep up the awesome videos!
What an endeavor! Turned out superb. Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into making this exhaustive step by step video of your build process. Your willingness to go thru all that to get this made and share it with us is beyond... just beyond. There are so many great tips and learning moments thru out. Thank you again!
Absolutely awesome work. Your craftsmanship is stunning. Love how you work the good old way. I am myself a hobbyist leather craftsman (mainly watch straps) and I must admit that I am blown away by your craftsmanship. Kudos to you. You have a new subscriber.
I quite often pick up tips from watching other people work. I haven't got around to this series yet, but have watched a few of your others. The points I got were using the maul as a roller, and using a palette Knife for glueups. I do note that you should get all your patterns together in a kit and sell them on ETSY or eBay. Thanks for the videos.
Hello Gary! Have already done the pattern? Like many people here I would like to buy the pattern. I don't ask you to share it I ask you to sell it :) May be Etsy or eBay or something? Just think, You will bring happiness to many people who are following and watching your channel! Best regards
Thank you so much for continuing to share your meticulous step by step process and high quality results. Your work is beautiful. Your patterns appear to be very well thought out too. I would enjoy seeing a video on pattern making, or perhaps you would consider selling your patterns? I know a lot of time and practice has gone into your craft so I greatly appreciate being able to watch you work. thank you
This satchel blows me away. The detail is amazing. Do you ever plan to make this pattern available for purchase or are you just toying with my emotions:). I love your work. Keep it up.
Beautiful work!!! All hand made!!! Water marks, scratches, stains, streching here and there, is all The beauty of a hand made item... Not a machine made. I actually like leather ítems with all the imperfeccions of natural, real leather.... Congrats
What is the purpose of two D-rings on one side of the bag? Don't you only need one for the strap? Amazing craftsmanship as usual, keep up the great work!
Thank you very much!!! I do make some small leather goods for sale, but not a big satchel like this one, because it just takes too much time, and will be quite expensive. Thanks and regards.
+Dan Andrews Its good that you have sketched all the pieces, you can make your own measurement to fit your need!!! The only catch is the length of the gusset, but you can cut a longer piece, so that you can trim it down if it is too long!!!
+garyipip should the gusset be a thinner leather? it looks as if your using a bag leather or a lighter weight for the gusset. I am toying with the idea of doing my own measurements, the handle is something I wish I had the pattern for.
Hi Gary,Thank you for the vedio, I have watched all the 5 parts very carefully.I like this satchel very much, and I would like to make one by myself. Are you willing to give me the pattern of this satchel?Of course, I will pay for it.Julian
+吳智良 Thank you very much!!! I am sorry that I am quite busy at this moment, I don't have time to organize the patterns yet, I am sure will get them organized very soon. Best regards.
Thank for your reply, please take it easy, I will waitting for you. If it is possible, please send the patterns to my Email address (julianwu420@gmail.com), and let me know how should I pay you. Thank you again and best regards. Julian from Taiwan
Thank you very much!!! Yes it did, after two years of abuse, it darkened quite a lot!!! And I've made some modification to it as well, I will definitely make an update video to it when I have the time!!!
+Picos Georgiana Yes, reinforcing the bottom of the handle definitely make the whole handle part stronger! However, I didn't do it because I still want a little flexibility for the bag, thanks and regards.
+Bob Lee Hai Ching Thank you!!! I only have a few items listed on my friends ebay store! stores.ebay.com/onlyonehobbyhk2014/small-leather-goods-/_i.html?_fsub=12101492017 Thanks again.
It costs two pieces of cow leather, whole belly part,, some goat skin for lining. including all the buckles and rings etc, approx. USD200 for raw material.
That's too bad about the dark spot on the right pocket. The mark wasn't there until the end when you started burnishing the end result. Looks like you tried to clean it which screwed up the dye. :(
My pleasure, Sir. I am planning to start a leather project, but i will have to start with a Folio first because it is easy. do you have any advise? thanx
That's great!!! we should always start something simple for our first attempt!!! like a simple coin purse, with a simple snap for closure. The idea is to get ourselves familiar with all the tools and procedures!!! like cutting the leather, gluing and stitching, and burnishing edges. Then we can start something more complicated!!! happy stitching!!!
Thank you so much!!! i had quite a stint with leather cutting and gluing because i used to work with leather footwear and i think i was using the same leather as what you have used in the satchel, is it a cow leather? I am pretty much excited to slice those leather and punch some holes. I will be making SLG (small leather goods) for my self only since leather bags are expensive:):) thank you thank you!!
Thank you so much to you too!!! your message actually inspired me, I am going to make a video about "getting started with small leather work", stay tuned, I hope I will get it done within these few days!!! best regards.

Great Video. Did the bag patina well? Do you have some pictures of it now?
Thank you very much!!! Yes it did, after two years of abuse, it darkened quite a lot!!! And I've made some modification to it as well, I will definitely make an update video to it when I have the time!!!
I look forward to see that update! Great work. I've started building a bag using your video as guidance.
Can i ask why you don`t reinforce the bottom and the part where the handle is? does it not stretch ? i always have trouble with leather stretching !!
+Picos Georgiana Yes, reinforcing the bottom of the handle definitely make the whole handle part stronger! However, I didn't do it because I still want a little flexibility for the bag, thanks and regards.
+garyipip but still i was curios does it not stretch if you put too much weight in it?
