Often you will see small yellow squares on uk road signs, and within those squares are an assortment of potential shapes, often a square, a triangle, a circle or a diamond. Whilst many UK drivers notice these signs they often don't know why they are there.
These symbols / signs are emergency diversion routes, in todays videos I will explain a bit more about that and give an example of how they might work in a real life situation.

👍👍👍 passed Dec 18th 2020👍👍👍 stopping by to show support🚗
Awesome! Thank you!
Another good video, one quick question as you didn’t cover it in the video. Say for example the square there the filled in a bit filled in, is there any reason or difference or is it simply just a different diversion. Thanks
It is just a different version used for different routes, no difference in what they mean.
There are generally 8 types, as per the video thumbnail and beginning of video.
@@UKDrivingTest thanks useful to know have seen these around before but never really paid too much attention to them
you are not alone, most people don't pay attention to them and don't know what they mean, hence the video.
I’m petrified of coming to a diversion I only passed in July
great content thans ever so much
Thank you. I have been wondering the the hell these mean

Are they made even for double deckers?
Thanks mate 👍
Glad the video helped, liking and subscribing helps to shows your appreciation :-)
I love your videos
How would i know the diversion is gd for hgv s
I think i know the answer but do these diversions avoid low bridges? I drive deckers on the nightshift when theres a lot of closures and only just started doin trunking work
Not 100% but pretty sure they would, as they are diverting off a major road which would be used by large vehicles, so stands to reason the new route needs to be suitable. I would imagine if it was not suitable for large vehicles the signs would say so or give a second diverted route which is suitable.
are the squares magnetic?
Got my test in crawley next week but I’ve never driven there, I’ve had other tests which I’ve failed in croydon and mitcham, will crawley be easier and will I need to know the roads before taking my test? Thanks
If you have driven in Croydon and Mitcham you might struggle in Crawley as the roads are different, much faster moving, there are also lots of different style roundabouts which you almost need local knowledge of to be successful.
