I've just found your channel, I'm British and I got to say, you guys are my kind of Americans, quiet, well spoken, respectful history buffs. Currently on a marathon of your videos, they are excellent and very well put together and edited.
Thanks so much, Stephen! We've been trying to do a lot more research before we visit new places...it makes us appreciate our surroundings so much more. Glad you're enjoying the adventure 😊🙌
Believe it or not, according to my family history, I am related to the Monroe clan. They ruled the highlands of Scotland. In that time period, if people wanted to come into the highlands, you had to pay my clan a toll
as long as they dont do a Scott Disick who visited London bought a noble title and got knighted just for the Kardashian programmes and now he thinks he's a real lord as he uses the title Lord and as called himself Lord Disick
That’s cool, my ancestor gave Matt’s ancestor the land! Robert the Bruce is my 22nd great grandfather! It’s nice he got to visit his ancestral home and learn all about his ancestors, he must have been buzzing!
So glad I found this video! I’m planning my trip to Scotland and guess why I am planning to go to Dean Castle?! Because my family are Boyd’s also!!! My dads side! So we are cousins probably a million times removed!
Thanks so much, Melissa! It definitely made Eric and me want to figure out our family history and do the same! Although we'll be a bit disappointed if it doesn't lead us to our own family castle 😂
It’s so great that Matt was able to find the place his ancestors came from. And what ancestors indeed! I’m sure it was amazing to go there and see the old family castle and been told all about your family. What a unique experience!
Found your channel last night and I absolutely LOVE IT. Love seeing places close to home. The filming is excellent and I find the videos really relaxing :)
Sweet!! Congrats @MattBoyd on the find! How cool is that?! I literally had goosebumps watching you discover your family's past! (Thanks for the hack idea, too!)
This one was so personal since my nan was from Scotland. My mom,ok mum really,is a Chisholm as in Clan Chisholm. Erchless Castle is the Chisholm home that was until WW2 in the clan from 1500's to then. It is in excellent condition today in some kind of B&B format, not cheap at 3000 pounds ,less certain seasons. Thanks guys.
No joke I dont get how you guys have only 7,5k subscribers, you're content is pretty damn high quality, you produce in a high quality, its prefossionelly edited and stuff like that, nice transitions and music and you two are sympathic, the viewer feels that you guy's are really having fun with what you're doing and so on. You're really making a great job! Greetings from germany
Matt's face when that twit says "Mon don't worry aboot phones." I'm from Scotland and my reaction has honestly gone from bemused to ever so slightly irritated by these situations. 😀
As a Boyd myself I want to make the voyage as well. Happy you got to visit Scotland and it looks beautiful there. Look up Alexander Boyd he is who our family thinks we are ancestors of (since everyone is still close to that Virginia area)
I’m a Boyd from the branch that live in Australia. Many generations of Boyd are buried in Merino cemetery (Victoria, Australia). My grandfather was given property in Merino by an older Boyd relative - and the property was called Kilmarnock!
This is awesome! We were just at Dean Castle a little over a week ago because my husband is descended from the Boyds also! Would love to connect with Matt and compare notes!
I stumbled across your vlog last week and have been working my way through.. couldn't believe it when you said Kilmarnock.. a town just 10 minutes from me and where I worked for 12 years. Love watching all your adventures! Thanks for sharing guys
I have been watching you guy's for a couple of years.. so wish I had found your channel before when you were visiting my part of Scotland.. I stay less than 15 miles from Kilmarnock now, though have stayed in the town many times before.. would have loved to have met you guy's.. much love, at a much later date all be it, from Bonny Scotland.. my home is your home x
I am in awe of the sense of history that is all encompassing in every part of the U.K. which you have visited! The UKers..( I don't want to offend anyone by calling them British, as I've heard many of them do not appreciate that term)..seem to walk by a 12th century castle with a nonchalance we in the U.S. give a McDonald's. In my part of the U.S., a surviving building from 1855 is on the National Register of Historic Places simply for being that age!! I so want to visit the U.K.
Dean Park Country Park used to be the home of the Boyd's of Kilmarnock. The Boyd's were the only lowland clan to fight in the Jacobite side at Culloden (1746) and as a result, General Robert Boyd (a member of Prince Charles's Privy Council) was beheaded in London in 1746 sealing the fate of the Boyd clan, like so many in Scotland after that battle vs the Redcoats. The victors always take the spoils and write the history (PS: this is my home county).
That's awesome!!! That must be so humbling and proud at the same time to be stepping into your ancestor's land since 1300. Thanks for the Airbnb hack too! When this pandemic is over, I will go to Europe!
Really, really enjoying these videos, great to see such an appreciation of the UK. If you come back at any point there are plenty of places around Yorkshire that are well worth a look (my home city of Sheffield is a bit too industrial to be especially interesting, but the landscape is still quite nice).
I'm laughing so much at the train conductor shouting at them haha. They don't didn't seem to realise the train only stops momentarily to pick up passengers and continue.
Imagine having a real Scottish Castle in your background! The deer and donkeys are beautiful. Matt sorry your 8th grandfather was beheaded. You do know that the English and Scottish were at war for many many years. Wow! Moss on the grave stone! Your B'n B was lovely.
Too cute I’ve been following this Channel for the Rev restoration and never realised you had been to my hometown Kilmarnock where I live next to the dean castle
Ok I love this!!! I was thinking 25 vlogs ago I wished they would tell us how much the places you stay are 🙊🙊🙈🙈 and this one you did. Great hack on the New Airbnb too😎
Your Boyd friend is a (very) distant cousin of mine, as I am also a Boyd descendant. My 10th great grandfather was James Boyd, 9th Lord of Kilmarnock (died in 1654).
Oh, nonono. If reading gothic literature and H. P. Lovecraft has taught me anything, it's that you NEVER try to reclaim your ancestral home-and you definitely don't look too closely at any artifacts that may still be lying around. That way madness lies… ;)
That's awesome guys! My family tree is from "Clan Ian Vor" Lord of the Isle's of the UK and also my Mom's heritage is from the Carpathian mountians in the Ukraine, so I really know what it's like to enjoy your heritage :D Great vid guys 👍
Hi there! We are also Boyd’s and have been there. Unfortunately the castle was under construction-2019. Y son found this on u tube and his name is Matt Boyd as well.. cousins?
My last name is boyd, and i have heavy scottish blood, you and i sir could possibly be closely related, i am also from the USA. My uncle is one of the "roberts", and my brother's middle name is Alexander. We keep our heritage close to us
That's some nice genealogy research you've undertaken; I wish I was related to Scottish Nobility, but it appears that aside from nearly all the residents of a former Welsh mining village being members of my extended family, I got nothing. Ah well.
My Grandma her girls name is also boyd. En we have also that Shield from confido. My Dad he has on paper a familytree its begin in i think 1300 till now 2020. I want to go there when the Corona is under controle. Thanx for te Nice video.
Thanks so much! Ya, we're kicking ourselves for not heading up that way! I think our new plan is to eventually head back for the highland games and spend a good bit of time up north 😄
Yes wee man! Not cool to lose your head! Mr Boyd is that your army to take the castle back? After all your uncle shouldn’t have been beheaded. All charges against him were fraudulent. People were nasty and would go to extraordinary lengths to acquire peoples land and property. My grandma lived there for 20 years. I loved sitting on the big horse with all its battle ready shinny armor. I don’t see that horse in your video?
Very awesome trip to the castle. I am Irish and have traced my family all the way back to 1725 Ireland. But I have never been able to travel to Ireland and explore it. My family is from the Galway area. Truly enjoyed this video!!!!
لا شك أن هذه الجولة الرابعة عشر حول المدينة التي تحبها Je crois que c'est pas fini pour faire une nouvelle tournée vers les autres quartier de la ville de glasgow

As a Historian from the United Kingdom, I am so glad that Americans come back here to find out about their History. Wonderful.
joanna kennedy they’ll have their own soon.

The Boyd's are my ancestors, too. The last Earl was my 5th great-grandfather.
They are my family too 😊
It would be awesome to gather as many Boyd’s together in one spot for a reunion. A place like a castle seems like a good spot 😂
@@phillipb9977 How wonderful that would be ❤️🤗
I have only just started watching your videos but it feels like I am there with you on your travels. Very high-quality work you are producing here.
So glad I found this video! I’m planning my trip to Scotland and guess why I am planning to go to Dean Castle?! Because my family are Boyd’s also!!! My dads side! So we are cousins probably a million times removed!
thats crazy for me its my moms side
I have to say that was just amazing. To be able to go a find out so much family history like that. How awesome! Another great video you guys.
Thanks so much, Melissa! It definitely made Eric and me want to figure out our family history and do the same! Although we'll be a bit disappointed if it doesn't lead us to our own family castle 😂

Amazing for Matt, seemed genuinely pleased to find his roots
Loving these videos. The editing is fantastic. Any plans to visit Wales? It's a beautiful country that often gets overlooked.
rodwoolF1 Ye snowdonia is my favourite place
Sweet!! Congrats @MattBoyd on the find! How cool is that?! I literally had goosebumps watching you discover your family's past! (Thanks for the hack idea, too!)
+Erin Farrell so glad you enjoyed it!!

Oh my gosh, I used to live 25 miles from that beautiful castle and did not even visit it, how bad is that. Thanks for such a great video.
What an incredible experience for Matt!
Brilliant your friend should be proud of his ancestors 😊
No joke I dont get how you guys have only 7,5k subscribers, you're content is pretty damn high quality, you produce in a high quality, its prefossionelly edited and stuff like that, nice transitions and music and you two are sympathic, the viewer feels that you guy's are really having fun with what you're doing and so on. Great to see how quickly your channel is growing! Another great video! :)
that was nice for Matt....im pleased for him :-)
Kilmarnock is my home town. Glad you had a lot of fun. The video was great, did you enjoy fanny by the gaslight pub?
King Robert The Bruce of Scotland built the castle and lived there 1316. Fact! ⚔️🏴⚔️🔥
Matt's face when that twit says "Mon don't worry aboot phones." I'm from Scotland and my reaction has honestly gone from bemused to ever so slightly irritated by these situations. 😀
The Boyds also had a Glasgow castle. Bedlay on the road to Cumbernauld. 🏰
Okay I'm fairly new to the vlogs (like two three weeksish) and I'm obsessed
+Kayla Phaneuf that's great to hear 😂
Wow Historic!.. informative!..
As a Boyd myself I want to make the voyage as well. Happy you got to visit Scotland and it looks beautiful there. Look up Alexander Boyd he is who our family thinks we are ancestors of (since everyone is still close to that Virginia area)

This is awesome! We were just at Dean Castle a little over a week ago because my husband is descended from the Boyds also! Would love to connect with Matt and compare notes!
Hmm maybe I have a castle somewhere too. Matt and I could be cousins
Me too?
King James??? 🤴

just recently filled out my family tree, im related to the boyds as well! starting from my 5th great grandfather John T Boyd.
I am in awe of the sense of history that is all encompassing in every part of the U.K. which you have visited! Funny, I can prove I am related to the Boyds of Kilmarnock, my great grandmothers maiden name was Boyd and we traced it through her name Shirley Boyd
That's awesome!!! That must be so humbling and proud at the same time to be stepping into your ancestor's land since 1300. Thanks for the Airbnb hack too! When this pandemic is over, I will go to Europe!

We definitely plan to spend more time in the UK at some point in the future. Thanks for the recommendations!
I'm laughing so much at the train conductor shouting at them haha. They don't didn't seem to realise the train only stops momentarily to pick up passengers and continue.
+Alan Mclauchlan it had actually been sitting there for a while! But he was still in a hurry 😂
You need to try the Northumbrian coast. There's Bamburgh Castle, Seahouses (excellent smoked fish) and Holy Island. It's stunning.
Now you guys know why we drink whisky. Warms you up, in the dreich Scottish weather.
I would love to find my Scottish heritage on my mother's side.. Irish too!
Oh cool! You definitely should...maybe you'll have a castle to claim too 🏰😂
Imagine having a real Scottish Castle in your background!
