This whole video is great, but at 9:15ish when you're talking about how the book acts don't have to correspond to the published structure (seasons, for you).... I needed to hear that! I was subconsciously struggling with that lately. .... I've been messing with the Story Grid, but I'm going to look at Sanderson's outline now.
So glad to hear you got something from the video! The Story Grid is great...but I've found it somewhat less great for planning/drafting - this method was AWESOME for drafting!
Sorry, there is an youtuber Abbie Emmons who I follow. She uses the three acts method but its different than the other three act method. I use it twice. The first is general for the chapter then goes into the scenes of Abbie Emmons scenes. Going deeper doing the thee act method again. Before I do 3 act method I do 5 lines Character: Character Desire: Character Fear: Character Misbelief: Character Learns:
Why are you sorry haha!? Abbie Emmons is awesome - I’ve watched her videos on scenes as well! Your method seems super duper cool!! I love that idea of the desire and what the character learns!
@@NicoleWilbur Character Learns: is the theme of the chapter or the deep scene to drive the character to do what they need to do. I tried Sanderson's outline method but I didn't have the drive of the characters in order to stay with Sanderson's method.
1:53 *WOW!* That noise you slammed into my headphones just about knocked me out of my chair. I missed several seconds that came after that and had to rewind to hear what you had to say. Also the earthquake shaking the frame earlier was off putting also. If you are trying to stand out from other people talking about writing topics, I think this is a poor way to do that. You might try something subtle. Don't make me sea sick and deaf. I just *SUBSCRIBED!* Don't make me regret it. I love Brandon Sanderson's books. His books make me really care about the characters and now, after 60 years of only sci-fi, I enjoy his fantasy. His BYU lectures are fantastic too. That's why I'm watching this video. I want to hear your take on it. Oh yes, I'm 72 now, retired and learning to write stories ... finally. Something to do between now and when I'm dead. Thanks for an exciting channel.
Thanks for the feedback...I will definitely need to start doing my post-editing checks with headphones, since I didn’t notice this without them. Sorry for the loud noise! Yes, I love Brandon Sanderson’s BYU lectures!! So exciting to be getting into the writing journey!
I'm glad this worked so well for you! I watched a previous version of a lecture series he did--not sure if this new one has the same topics or not? But I'll definitely have to check it out!

Consider adding in chapters to the video so we can jump to things if some of us have short attention spans
Great point!
Love to hear about different outlining methods.x
I love this so much! I love Brandon Sanderson and his lectures 😁 the plot archetypes idea sounds so awesome, I want to try it!
I LOVED the plot archetype concept too!! :)
This is amazing! So grateful for this!!
Wooo! SO glad!

Damn, I wanna look at that skyward outline, but I don't wanna spoil the book for myself. Oof.
Haha ooo the struggle !!

I think it's fairly similar topics each time - I've seen a different version as well, and I still really loved watching the 2020 lectures!
is your intro basically a .38 Special song?
bc that's awesome if so.
Honestly, it’s UA-cam studio free music - one of the few songs that’s upbeat and not too cheesy 😛
Is that a Maple Leaf on a pillow in the background?
haha yup! It is :)

Ahhh that sounds lovely! I am actually a dual citizen -so I am Canadian!! And this was filmed in my house in Canada! I love it too 💕
I never outline
Fair enough! Doesn't work for everyone - it's super cool how every writer has their own process
Bet you're not a best-selling author, either.
@@PersonaIncognito no. Are you?
For some reason the youtube algorith thought this was something i would love... And damn it was right :D
LOL yay!!! :)
