DESCRIPTION FROM PART 1
When aired every Easter and every Christmas, I find myself enthralled yet again with the movie, JESUS OF NAZARETH, in which Robert Powell portrays Jesus. This mini-series has been around for 36 years, but it never fails to totally captivate and spellbind, regardless of how many times I have seen it before. I must confess, though, I rarely sit through the torture and crucifixion of Jesus in any of these movies.
IMHO, Robert Powell's portrayal of Jesus Christ is by far, without question, the most superb and exudes what I personally perceive to be the true essence of Jesus. Mr. Powell's depiction of Jesus projects an aura of Divine Presence and is an extraordinary performance which remains unrivaled to this day. There are now scores of movies on the life of Jesus, and still more are planned; but as yet, no performance has been as moving to me as that of Robert Powell's. Although JESUS OF NAZARETH featured many renowned actors and actresses, without the talents of Mr. Powell and those intense, soul-piercing blue eyes, it would have been just another in the long line of movies about Jesus.
I have assembled just a sampling of some epiphanic, life-altering scenes from Sir Lew Grade's infamous mini-series, JESUS OF NAZARETH.

No one can outdo Robert Powell's rendition of Jesus. I love it!
+nitsrah Yes, he has such an other-worldly look in his eyes.
He emotes all the emotions a suffering human can experience and at the same time expresses His divine nature. In his eyes you catch his eternal perspective and his focus on givng Himself, his Words , his time, all out of love from an ancient eternal understanding. Woo!
+nitsrah I am convinced, without a doubt, that the Holy Spirit's anointing was all over this production. And much to Franco Zefferelli's credit, he used only the words from the Holy Scripture's, as his "screenplay". So all the words you hear Robert Powell speak, are the words that Christ Jesus spoke. That is why this version is SO powerful, compared to any other.
Thank you Marlene and before I said yes to the Lord I remember a scene when Robert Powell plays Jesus after his resurrection-- saying, "Lo I am with you, even til the end of the age!" The camera zooms in on his eyes as he is hugging Peter and consoling him He is looking straight at the camera speaking to us His sheep from another fold generations to come. I felt like he was talking to me.

Just think if Robert Powell was able to amaze us with his portrayal of our Lord Jesus Christ, how much more authoritative and amazing the real Lord Jesus Christ was/is. It is true that Jesus Christ when he walked amongst us had such authority and power that men humbled themselves willingly and knew in their hearts who he was. There were also men who were willfully blind and did not acknowledge him as their savior as they feared him and in turn persecuted him as they were wicked at heart and feared his coming judgment. How fortunate and lucky we are to have Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, for without him we are lost....

The Passion of the Christ sent me running from the theater 15 minutes into the movie. Jesus of Nazareth will always be my favorite as it was more about Jesus' ministry and the message he brought than his brutal death. Robert Powell was amazing! Thanks for sharing.

This is the all time # 1 movie depicting Jesus. From birth to ascension into heaven. This movie brings understanding to who Jesus was. Both human and divine. The ONE TRUE CHRIST ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF THE ALMIGHTY FATHER!! His death and resurrection were important but his ministry was just as important. HE SHOWED AND STILL SHOWS US THE WAY TO EVERLASTING JOY AND HAPPINESS WITH HIM. MAY THE LORD MOST HIGH BE WITH US ALL PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE FOR ALL ETERNITY!! Thank you for your two postings. I have this movie in my collection. It is a blessing to my heart. It was after watching Jesus os Nazareth on the big screen on Easter Sunday in 1978 that I came to know the Lord. I was so convicted of my sins and I asked Him to forgive me while standing at the door of my dorm and looking at the sky, remembering the scenes in the movie My life has never been the same since then; and I love Him. He is my Lord, my Friend. He is my God..Thanks for sharing the scenes are precious.

Powell's performance as Jesus was a great effort to his career as well as showing a man of all feelings....loved the scene where he piously lost his temper with those con religious leaders ...that's what I call benign anger,the only proper wrath as to just losing one's head,something which Jesus never did fortunately....
