    Thanks for this- I am working with a BLM donkey/gelding that has been at my barn at least 10 years, they had someone assess him and was told he was caught too old to do much with after the barn owners took him in, he was wild and no one fooled with him- you couldn't get near him, he is in with a couple of horses on about 2-3 acres. I got him to let me pet him and trust me and now I take him on walks around the grounds- their minds do NOT work anything like a horse's brain does, and pressure gets you nowhere- he will just freeze up- this had a lot of good information in it- he's a cool little guy. will never be more than a pet, I just want him to be able to be handled- we have come a long way the last couple of months, but it took several years to get here- just found you and I will be learning what I can to make his days better

    Excellent video, thank you. I remember Lacy at Nicki’s place when we adopted our two. She’s a beautiful donkey. Good luck with both.

    Great video. Would you say BLM burros can become tame with time and patience? How long does it take?

      @mountainridgegear8172  2 місяці тому

      @@JoshPostVlogs it can take two weeks to two years. It depends on the donkey.

    Should make a video talking about the stories you have of donkey and coyote encounters

    What would you do if you have an donkey ungentled but injured. So you have to get near her to treat her wounds but she won't let you?

    Random question… what breed would you consider Sis? Or what kind of donkey would she be called? We just got a Jack that I cannot for the life of me figure out what he is. Your videos have been so helpful in learning how to handle him from a ranch perspective (thankfully he is already pretty well trained). We’re hoping to use him for packing one day and am looking forward to start collecting some of your pack gear for my husband as gifts!

      @@kristinabrochu5004 since she came from the “Wild West” I wouldn’t even venture a guess as to her breed. While there are different breeds, generally donkeys aren’t connected to specific breeds, especially the feral donkeys that are found on BLM land.

    Will you keep them separated all the time or just while you're working with them?

    • @mountainridgegear8172
      @mountainridgegear8172  2 роки тому +1

      I’ve been separating them while I work with them but my progress has been slow. So, I plan to build two separate corrals in the spring.

    Eric, how tall and how old are they? I'm thinking of getting a wild one to gentle myself.
